Prologue- Heterochromia

Prologue- Heterochromia

Ghost’s eyes were multicolored- one gold, one black, with red slits. The only noises that came out of his mouth were rumbling “haaa” sounds, and if any dirt got on him, it would mysteriously disappear an instant later, as if sucked in completely by his chaste, colorless coat. His jagged teeth were an anomaly of its’ own. They grew and shrank in flashes, so if you blinked they could be 2 times bigger than they were seconds ago. The way he moved was odd; you couldn’t tell if he was truly floating or not, but most just assumed that he probably was. Some might find him menacing, or downright petrifying, but even when Cade woke up with Ghost on top of him, glaring at him ominously; his only thought was that his Ghost was fascinating as ever, in his usual charming sort of way.

When Cade sat up, Ghost sucked in his breath in a disturbingly human like sound, and jumped down, flicking his fluffy tail in irritation. By then, his memories flooding back, Cade had all but forgotten his foxy companion. Instead, he was reaching for his bag. The dagger and guns were still there.

His uncle’s sweet little group of loons even thought to leave him extra money and clothes. Cade gave a bitter laugh. If they were here now, he would probably slaughter them joyfully. He could probably find them now, though it wouldn’t be easy to infiltrate Eden’s wall.

Luckily for the world around him, Cade wasn’t really the revenge type of guy. Of course, he could always make an exception for his Dear Uncle Luther. The man who set up his father and poisoned his mother. Of course, he probably wouldn’t. If anything, it seemed that it was Luther himself who had suffered the most at their deaths. Cade remembered their last few words to each other.

“I don’t want you dead, just gone.”

“What goes around comes around, Uncle Luther. If you leave me alive, I might just come back to you.”

“If you live that long…”

Now thinking about it, Luther probably didn’t want him to live that long. With Cade’s life out of his hands, he intended for him to die without adding any more weight to the already overwhelming guilt of the lives he already ended. After all, he was dropped off on the outskirts of Dead End, an infamous maze town with an astounding death rate of 68%. It was filled with trigger-happy villains to the brim, and it was said to be impossible to get out without a map.

He signed with resignation. It was going to be a long walk out, and he had nowhere to go.
