Prologue - A lost Magi's Tale

“The waves thundered against the hull of the ship, as if the heavens themselves were set against it. Lighting crashed onto and around the ship, as if Zeus himself had cast it down. Captain had chosen to sail out during storm surge season, which may very well be the entire crew's undoing. As the standing weather Magi, my job would normally be to try and predict storms before they came, and if I couldn’t predict them, at least dispel them. That would prove near impossible with Storm surges though, due to their inherent nature. They were infamous for their irregular nature, often coming into existence in under 30 minutes, and deadly nature. Even ignoring their high speed winds and dangerous tornadoes, the real risk came from what they attracted. Storm surges were notorious for drawing legendary creatures of the deep and sky towards them, which would almost certainly lead to the death of the entire crew. On top of that, I wasn’t qualified to handle storm surges, no one was. Even Storm Magi weren’t qualified to handle them, and I certainly wasn’t any storm mage. In fact, I was multiple Distinctions below a storm mage.

I had a feeling, I just knew I shouldn’t have accepted the deal even if it was double pay. Very few were willing to do it due to the risks, but I was one of the fools who agreed, and now I was going to pay with my life.

As the thought appeared, I heard the roars of a Kraken, and at that point it was truly over. Krakens were known for being one of the most deadly creatures of the deep that were documented, and would frequently attack militant ships, taking them down in a matter of hours. They would encircle your ship with their tentacles, and drag the entire crew down to their deaths. One less known trait of the kraken was to make anything within its proximity sink, even if it would normally float. This meant that any crewmate who was on the ship had no hope of survival, and would struggle in a futile bid for survival before their eventual death due to asphyxiation. It grabbed our ship, and dragged it under. I was smart enough to jump off the ship and hope for the best, unlike many of my crewmates. I grabbed onto a crate, and floated away amid the myriad of waves.

I have just awoken to discover myself on an island, with a crate full of ink, quills, and leather-bound books in a crate. I consider myself a learned man, and have learned how to write in common. I have taken it upon myself to record my experiences in one of these books, in the hope that it may be discovered and learned from in the future. I fear there is no hope left for me, as I can see my life slipping away from my very own eyes, and have no access to food or water. I just hope this can find its way to someone, so I may be remembered.”
