Chapter one

Ext- 6:00 AM, most people would be asleep, but unfortunately for the high schoolers, this was the first day of school. That meant waking up early, and hearing a teacher yell wake up! To most of them.

Student one: seriously why couldn’t summer last forever.

Phillipa ‘Pipa Grey’ Took one good look at the overextended billboard on her walk to school. It’s letters sending a cheerful “Welcome to your first-day students!” And a part of her wondered if those letters were always reused year in and year out. Never replaced. She wouldn’t put it past them, the school was cheap enough to do so.

The sign was big and black and felt so wrong. She hugged herself as she stopped. She looked at the building, overhead.

Big yellow bricks and white arches greeted students at the front. While the flag was that of a cartoonish wolf eating the moon. Phillipa never liked that mascot, a moon-eating wolf. It would send shivers down her spine every time she walked past it, giving her brief panic attacks.

She reasoned to herself it was probably due to the nightmares she had as a child. But that didn’t stop the anxiety that would hit her full force every time she walked under that flag or ran into the mascot.

She stopped for a moment before she’d of course had to be assailed by the flag, the school, and millions of students jostling towards her. A boy groped her or two and the teacher barked at her she was late.

She took a deep breath. And forced her body to relax.

Pippa to herself: (her voice low so no one could hear.) It’s ok Pippa, think of it as another mission.  You’ll be ok.

She liked her missions they were simple. And if something went wrong, she could plan. If she thought of school like that, maybe she’d survive.

But she knew if something went wrong, she couldn’t sucker-punch or manipulate students. Ok maybe she could manipulate students, but sucker-punching them was out of the question.

She forced a smile and walked in.

Pipa was right about the jostling. As soon as she entered the building, the bell rang. Students, most likely freshmen, In their desperate haste to make a good impression stampeded like mad cattle for their classes.

Pippa: excuse me!

Freshmen girl: (panic in her voice) I’ve got Algebra at R209, where’s building R! ( her friends are trying to soothe her, but it’s clear the girl is in full-blown panic mode. She is freaking out right now. )

Pipa shook her head. She wanted to help, but right now, she had to focus on surviving this herd.

Freshmen male: ( pointing at a blond-haired girl, she recognizes as Phoebe debonair.) That senior is hot!

His friend nods.

Pipa: (mentally) The new generation of sexist jerks.

They could be jocks, techs, or even drama kids, etc. But from the look of their muscles and the way they held themselves, how their shirts had footballs in them, Pipa quickly assessed they were to be jocks.

Pipa: (mentally) Poor Allen having to deal with those two.

She saw those same Freshmen look at her up and down. She grasped the necklace she had around her neck.

Tita May's voice in her head: Always wear it, it’s a protection charm. (Something the real Aunt May reminded her, again and again.

Pippa knew it wouldn’t protect her from bullying but she felt it did protect her somewhat. Reassured it was still there, she glared at the boys who gave leering grins. She knew she was very pretty, just not pretty enough to be popular. That beauty, however, was more of a hassle, as it attracted the wrong kind of attention.

She glared at the freshmen, they shook their heads

Freshmen one; (A handsome caucasian-looking boy with blonde hair) She’s probably a stuck-up prude. (He looks her up one more time, it’s like bugs crawling out of her skin. ) But damn those legs.

 Sexist pigs.

She struggled to reach her locker.

Phillipa (To herself) You can do this.

The students continue to jostle her, left and right. The hallways always felt too small on the first day. She bumps into someone and her bum hits the floor.

Pippa: Owwww

A freshly manicured hand is offered to her, she looked up and saw her Friend Allison “ Allie “Mclane smile at her. Allison was a beautiful girl, with a bob cut that fit her face well. She looked at Pippa and gave her a sympathetic smile that seemed to make her features look like that of a child’s.

Allie: First-day rumble?

Pippa: First-day rumble.

Allie gave her a small smile. She slouched a bit.  Pippa couldn’t help but notice the relieved sigh Allie held out as her back curved slightly.

She wore the bright green mini-skirt and sweater that came along with being part of the cheer squad.

Phillipa gave her a look.

Allie: What?

Pippa: Are you happy being a cheerleader?

Allie seemed to need a moment to think. Allie opens her mouth to answer. Coach Diana Holmes:

Allie what did I tell you about your posture! And have you been eating more? I told you to lose weight you’re to be on top of our pyramid!”

Lilian swore Allie’s hair practically flinched at the screeching, from the evil queen. Or as everyone else called her Coach Diana.

Coach Diana Holmes, who was a former Cheer captain looked at Allie her eyes blazing. Pippa saw her friend shake slightly. The Coach held a checklist, and she scanned Allie as if making sure she fits the bill.

Coach motto: We have an image to maintain.

To Pippa, she swore the woman would give her death glares if Allie was so much as a minute late because she was with her.

Pippa with a smile on her face:  Nice to see you Ms. HolmesThe teacher looked at her as if she was a bug.

Coach Diane “I see. Allie, I want you in the gym after school, you need to lose that belly fat!” Pippa glared at the teacher. Allison was a slender girl and was very light. This was body-shaming. Allie nodded.

Coach Diana:  “Now come!”Allie, who was terrified of the woman followed her heels. Pippa shook her head. Poor Allie.

The other cheerleaders soon followed. They took one look at Pippa, and gave her a ‘You won’t see “Allie in a while look.”

Coach Diana: I want you girls on the field now!

They ran like a stampede of horses.

Pippa kind of wondered why the girls stayed if the coach was like that. She took a deep breath and went to the first period.

As the bell rang signaling the end of the first period Pippa took a deep breath. And took a deep breath.

Pippa to herself;  You made it, you’ll be ok.”

Nothing bad happened so far, so she was hopeful the rest of the day would end well.

Pippa walks to her locker and finds Mackenzie Holmes trying to scribble something away with lipgloss.

Pippa smiles: Mackenzie, you know that won’t erase what was written, right?

Mackenzie jolts and gives Pippa a nervous glare

Mackenzie, her voice squeaking: Pip, don’t go to your locker yet.

She looked so pleading that Pippa knew she had to see what was written. In Pig’s blood was the word Bug freak.” Pippa took a deep breath, the anxiety swelling up in her.

Pipa to herself:  I’m ok?”

Mackenzie: Are you ok?

Pippa nodded. Mackenzie didn’t look like she believed her.

Mackenzie: Let’s get some towels and clean this up?

Pippa nodded.

Mackenzie seemed to open up a bit more after that, They missed the second period, but the first day was always introduction. It’s not like they missed anything important.

Mackenzie: Get this, Maddie tried to have me arrested!

Pippa couldn’t help but laugh at that.

Mackenzie: It’s true! The brat as soon as she was alone with me screamed kidnapper!” And everyone was looking at us, including the police.

Maddison was Mackenzie’s six-year-old sister a friend of Rose, Pippa’s darling sister. Pippa could pretty much guess Maddison’s intention, considering her sister was a prankster herself.

Mackenzie: Fortunately someone my mom knew could clarify the situation. She lectured me though on being a better sister.”

Pippa couldn’t help but let a few giggles after that.

Pippa: Let me guess, Your sister got off scot-free.

Mackenzie nodded.

Mackenzie:  “And I’m grounded... “I swear, whatever I did to Maddie’s ire, I swear I.”

Both girls looked at each other, before bursting into giggles.

“Yeah, once a prankster has set their intentions on a target, they tend to make them the target of their pranks. Pippa was so glad Rose saw her elementary school principal as her target. Not Pippa.

But then again, she was the target of a bully. Pippa looked at her locker, now completely spotless.

Mackenzie: Want me to go with you? Pippa shook her head.

Pippa: No, I can handle this.

Mackenzie nodded, though she squeezed Pippa’s hand.

Jackson: I’m telling you dude, if you want to pop her cherry, you have to make her believe you care!

Emrys shook his head disgusted and saw their Captain Allen grimace. Jackson was the second-best Football player, and the most valued linebacker the team had. Coach Mathews tended to ignore Jackson’s actions as long as it wasn’t illegal.

He tended to ignore any of the player’s actions as long as they were good. Emrys would picture his mother looking at Jackson and taking him by the ear. He almost laughed at the scene, before remembering this was the anniversary of her death. He sobered up after that. A frown etching his features.

A door slammed open, and many of the football players looked aghast. Their faces were in bemusement at seeing a girl in their locker room. Granted a very pretty girl, named Phillipa Grey.

Emrys, however, was expecting her. He looked her up and down, he could admire her beauty. And she was pretty enough, for a human. Long red hair, olive skin, and big breast. He could see Jackson staring at her boobs, and he frowned at that. He may not like her, but he didn’t like it when women were disrespected in that manner. Hence why he limited his bullying to harassment and not molestation.

She looked at him, fire in her eyes. “Bug Freak? Really?”  He smiled. “Why not? “ it’s what you are after all.” She was only in this school due to her uncle being the school exterminator.

Hence a scholarship.  She tightened her fist, Pippa looked like she wanted to punch him, but she took a deep breath. “Wow, sinking low, what must your mother think?”

He rushed towards her and pushed her to a locker. “Don’t you dare talk about my mother!”

She looked at him, fear in her eyes. But he simply stared at her coldly and whispered, “Mention my mother again, and I’ll make sure to do worse than your locker.”

She glared at him. “You’ve already done worse? Remember, you purposely hacked my email to make sure I don’t go to the college of my choice.”

He was adult enough to admit that was pretty low, but her father had done worse, way worse to him when he was a child. And she was his blood after all. This was nothing but payback.

“You still got into a college didn’t you?” She narrowed her eyes. “I had a full scholarship in the college of my choice.”

He smirked. “So you have to take loans, boo hoo.”

She punched him then and there. “Easy for you to say that loans mean nothing.” He felt blood on his lips, and tasted the acidity of it, he glared at her. “You’re going to regret that.” She smiled “I already regret the fact I talked to you.

And with that, she walked away.

Emrys was fuming as he walked down the halls. Many of the Underclassman girls looked at him, blush on their cheeks. Some Seniors even blushed and twirled their hair as they saw him walk by.

But he didn’t care about that right now, all he cared about was That Phillipa Grey dared to punch him. Especially after what her father did.

‘Dance you fae monkey!’ The whip would hit his back every time he didn’t dance to the man’s liking.

He was forced to wear nothing and dance for the man naked. He had no problem being naked but not for entertainment in front of these leering men and women.

He punched the locker hard enough to cause a dent. He was hyperventilating now.

“My prince.” Turning around he found a fae in their air form. Invisible to everyone but him, and those who had the sight.

He gave a glance around the area, no one seemed to notice the little hobbit.

He knew this would mean he wouldn’t be able to take air form for the rest of the day, but if his father, or most likely Leif sent the man it must be important.

But it would be strange if he was just standing there and then disappeared. He needed to camouflage into the crowd.

Thankfully the third bell rang, and the herd of students walked by ignoring him.

He transformed to air then. “What?” He asked, as students, one after the other walked past him.

It was an eerie feeling being walked past through. No one could see him.  No one noticed him. He was just air to them after all. Constant invisibility in their lives.

The little hobbit, who was only up to his waist looked nervous. Emrys instantly knew it was bad news. No one liked to tell royals bad news, and The way the messenger was fidgeting who could guess what it was. There was no crown with him, so thankfully his father wasn’t dead.

The fae bowed in respect. Then looked him in the eye. “Your father has fallen ill again.”

Expecting the news and hearing the news were two different things, from the way the little faerie backed away from him slowly, Emrys could guess he looked like he wanted to punch something.

Emrys took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. “I see.” He said. The fae nodded, then touched the water streaming from a water fountain and transported himself as far away from him as possible.

When the fae was gone and he was sure there were no students to see him, Emrys punched the wall, touching a solid and instantly reverting to his solid form.

He was now in a terrible mood, and he was sure he’d be in a pretty bad mood until His Uncle Arthur came.

Phillips’s angry face came to his mind, and then the face of her father. Phineas Grey. He growled. “Well, at least he had a deserving target to vent his anger towards.
