Day Thirty Five

Day Thirty Five

Dear diary, I require more power.

Today, I woke up warm and soft in Sophia’s bed. I crawl deeper under cover, crawling against her. I don’t want to get out of bed today. Everything is complete. Yesterday, after Sophia sneaked me out of our school and into her house yesterday, she explained everything that had been going on since I left.

Apparently, I have only been gone for four days. I guess that is good; it means that not that much could have gone wrong since I have been gone. Just the normal amount of wrong. Apparently, my parents started searching for me after I had not come home that night. It only took them a bit to find out that I went with the police.

When they tried to confront the police trying to get me back, they were arrested instead. This all apparently happened in broad daylight, with lots of people now talking about the incident. According to Sophia, the options on the incident are spread between cops abusing their power and my parents actually being criminals.

Sadly, none of that actually helps me. Even if everyone thought that what happened was wrong, there was not much they could do about it. It is not like we can go to the authorities to complain or storm the station. These are still aliens that we are dealing with. There is no saying what they would do when trapped in a corner.

One thing that is strange to me is that they want to amulet at least. I am pretty sure that is what they are after. But everyone so far has told me that only travellers can use it. I don’t know what that means for these people exactly. Maybe they have a way to circumvent it, or they know what it takes to create a traveller.

I already sent Kuro out to investigate on his own, the little cat being hard to spot if you are not looking for him, at least. I groan in annoyance as someone starts to poke me. I slowly open my eyes to only see Sophia smiling at me with a bright smile.

“Good morning, sleepy head. It is time to get up.” She says with a smile.

“I don’t know what is so good about this morning. Aliens have kidnapped my parents, and all I have to fight them is a sword that I barely know how to use.” I complain.

“I guess that is somewhat true, but you are not alone. You have Kuro and me now to help you.” She says.

“I guess that is true,” I say.

Suddenly, the doors open up, and Sophia’s mother walks. “Sophia, it is time to go to school… Mo? What are you doing here?”

“Uhm, well, you see”, I start awkwardly.

“Mom, she just got back yesterday and knows nothing about what is going on”, Sophia interrupts.

Sophia’s mom looks at both of us before releasing a sigh. “I see, but do you really have no clue as to what kind of weapon you might have stolen?”

“I might,” I say as I take out the plate. “They are probably looking for this.”

Sophia’s mom looks at it with confusion. “What is it?”

“Time machine,” I say with a shrug. “The reason I disappeared is that I was travelling in time,” I say with a smile.

“Right, sure, that is kind of hard to believe, you know,” she says

At that point, the room turns a lot darker as Kuro comes back. The little kitten appears in the middle of the room.

“Tell me, did you find anything?” I ask as I look at Kuro in excitement.

Kuro turns to me and gives me a wink. “Of course I did; I found your parents there in a cell at the police station. I even manage to slip them a message telling them their daughter is safe.”

“The cat can talk?” Sophia’s mother asks in surprise.

“Yes, he can come in rather useful in most cases. Did you find anything else?” I ask

“They have some pretty high-tech equipment, but it looks like they want to keep most of it concealed so they don’t have as much firepower as feared,” Kuro explains.

“That is good. Do you think we can sneak in and rescue them?” I ask in excitement.

“Probably. The cells use a simple old key, so as long as we create a distraction, I can sneak in and get them out of there,” Kuro says.

“That is great. I can be the distraction. They definitely come after me if I show up, right?” I ask, already getting excited.

“Absolutely not. I am not putting a child in danger. What if they catch you?” Sophia's mam objects.

I look at the plate in my hand, and an idea starts to form. “What if they can’t catch me? If I charge the plate, I can just jump away if they get close.”

“How would we charge it,” Kuro asks.

“Well, I feel like the basis was electricity, right? So what if we go to the colour farm that has been set up and see if we can charge it that way.” I say, getting out of bed and putting on some clothes.

Sophia’s mam frowns. “Okay, but only if we get to fully charge it.”

I smile. “Thank you,” I say as I give her a hug.

“Get your stuff together and meet me in the car. I will drive you there. That way, you won’t attract that much attention
