Chapter three

The next day was a pleasant one for Donald's family. His children who had initially been driven away from school, were now preparing for school. Diane was busy with the chores, while Donald was getting ready for work.

“Hey honeys, breakfast is served.” She said to Donald and his children who were watching TV.

“Arrigh, let's go and eat.” Donald said as he lifted up his children from the sofa.

“Where did you learn that from?” Diane asked irritably.

“Learn what?

“You know what I'm talking about.”

“Oh that, that's how my director at work uses the word. Instead of alright he prefers to say arrigh.” Donald said adjusting the plates.

“Like seriously?” Hildah exclaimed.

“Of course dear, you had better not talk while eating, else you might get choked.” Donald replied.

“Oh sorry.” Hildah said and continued eating.

“So honey, where did you get that money from?” Diane asked.

“My director, Mr. David, such a good man. He gave it to me.”

“But Dad?” Hildah indicated again.

“Yes my love?” Donald said as he shifted his attention to her.

“You said talking while eating is bad.”

“Oh sorry about that.” Donald said as he gestured to Diane to indicate that she would hear it later. They finished eating and dispersed to their various destinations. Donald boarded a taxi to the 'D cyber Cafe'.

He soon got there, went into the cold reception once again, went straight for the elevator, headed for the next floor and into the passage way leading to Mr. David's office.

“Hey, my friend, uhm Mr. Donald

“Its surprising how you didn't forget my name today sir.”

“To be honest I had to write it down on a piece of paper and put it just where I could find it this morning when you come.” Mr. David replied.

“You must be a very busy man.”

“I sure am.” He replied as he continued with what he was doing.

“I'll see you later sir.” Donald said and left the office.

Then he came out from the office and went over to the office he entered the day before to take his job description.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

“Hello Mr... Never mind, good morning.” The dark skinned man said on seeing Donald enter his office.

“Good morning to you too sir,” Donald greeted back.

“So?”

“Yeah actually, I didn't... l mean you didn't tell me where my office was, yesterday.” Donald said, nervously running his hand through his dark short hair that had a way of curling round and round.

“Oh that, actually you don't have an office. You are going to be in a large hall with the others.” The dark skinned man said without looking up.

“Others?”

“Yeah others, like other Computer operators.”

“Okay, now I get, so where should that be?” Donald asked, eager to start working as soon as possible.

“When you come out from this office, just go towards your right, then enter the door that is three doors away from mine on the left. There, you'll find many other computer operators like yourself doing their jobs. There are many vacant computers so just choose the one that suits you. Someone will put you through when you get there.”

“Thank you very much sir.”

“You're welcome, wish you all the best.”

“Thanks.” Donald said as he left the cozy office into the passage way. Closing the door, he walked towards the new office hall, whatever one would call it. He opened the door that had been described to him, and went in. On getting inside, all eyes fell on him. He suddenly began to feel nervous.

“Good morning.” He said to no one in particular but intending to greet the questioning eyes. The same way they had turned away from their work to stare at him, was the same way they turned away from him to continue their work. No one answered his greetings, they just behaved like he wasn't there.

Then after standing for about three minutes without anyone paying attention to him, someone walked up to him, accompanied by another person.

“Hello and welcome to D cyber cafe, my name is Peter Drury and with me here is Jim Renan.”

“My friends call me "Big J". Nice to meet you,” Jim said, stretching his hand for a handshake.

It took everything in Donald not to laugh at that. Reason because there was nothing big about the guy. Jim was a pretty short man, with rather feminine features; remarkably long eyelashes and long brown hair pulled into a ponytail. Taking a quick glance at him, one could mistake him for a female. One could call him a dwarf but he wasn't one, in the actual sense of the word. He was the assistant coordinator.

“Hello Jim.” Donald said as he took the hand. “Nice to meet you too.”

“Call me PD. I know it sounds more like potential difference in physics, but never mind that,” Peter said as he turned towards the other rather busy computer operators.

In contrast to Jim, he was a very tall man, one might say huge but tall best qualifies him. He was a bureaucratic chauvinist. He was a rather cheerful man with short hair and a long pointed nose.

“Yeah.” Donald replied again.

“So I'm sure you know what to do.”

“No I don't, the personnel manager asked you to tell me.”

“Okay, yeah yeah.” Peter said, cutting him short.

“I'm gonna be very blunt here,” Peter started. “Y might have been told from the beginning that you came here for computer operating right?”

“Yes of course.”

“Well,” Jim decided to continue from where Peter had stopped.

“You actually came here to hack.”

“What?” Donald exclaimed, not even letting Jim finish.

“Yes, you came here to hack for yourself and for the company, that is for instance you can hack an automated Teller Machine and get it to just bring out money of any proportion. Or you could create a fake debit card, go to any car shop, get something, ask to make payment through that same fake card, take the card and get it sold for real money.” Jim said, putting it in such a way that Donald couldn't help but start wondering the millions of things, doing this job could do for his family. He didn't have to think about the answer. He knew it already.

“I'm in.”
