Chapter: 1 Introduction

Welcome to the land of Sparta, a world where magic is controlled using chemicals from the periodic table. Every living thing has a connection to a specific chemical but certain animals and family’s have a higher connection to the chemicals. Even the animals have gained an affinity to some of the chemicals causing them to mutate and become larger and even more dangerous, and because of this even a few new jobs have opened up in this vast new world such as chemical beast hunters and magical scientists whom without we’d have trouble making this world run. Within this world lives ninety great families whom are known throughout the world as the most powerful and skilled of this world's magic users due to their close ties with the chemicals. One of the strongest members of each family takes their chemical name as their own.

We start this story with a group of friends whose names are Thomas was about five foot eight inches tall with pale white skin, and long purple hair down to about his shoulders in length, Chris was five foot eleven inches in height, had dark brown skin, and brown hair with a pompadour, Shawn was about five foot six inches, not quite tall but not short either, he was also a little on the heavier side, with a nappy fade, and last but certainly not least was Jaylin who stood at five foot four, with dreads slightly longer than Thomas’s hair, he was the darkest of them all and by far the shortest, all hanging out at the park near their houses watching their little siblings and cousins run amok throughout the neighbourhood.

Thomas: Jaylin, when are you going to talk to Jasmine?

Jaylin: I don’t know whenever you talk to that Asian new girl.

Thomas: There’s an Asian new girl?

Jaylin: Yeah, and she’s been eyeing you up all day in class.

Thomas: Hmm… maybe.

Chris: Y’all ready for the next school year to start?

Shawn: Don’t we start magic studies class this year?

Jaylin: Yeah, I hope we have the same classes.

They talk for a while and not long after they hear their parents call them telling them dinner is ready, and as they go they promise to meet after dinner. They live close to each other, kind of in the hood but a good part everyone knows each other, friendly faces here and there a bit of crime every now and then but never really against one another. Going their separate ways our story now follows Jaylin to his humble little home which he shared with his mother, two sisters, and his little dog. When he got home he saw that his mother was in the kitchen preparing spaghetti, and his two sisters were waiting at the table, both for her to finish preparing the spaghetti and for Jaylin to get back. Now Jaylin is a fun, loving, lazy, boy who loves food, wrestling, and he’d be willing to do anything for his family. Upon sitting down Jaylin’s mother waved her hand over a cup and infused hydrogen chemicals in to the air bonding the oxygen and hydrogen atoms together creating water within the cup, this would be because she is one of the four chemical classes which everyone falls in to, her in particular, she would fall into the mage category, capable of chemically bonding her own type of chemicals to others thus creating something new, now this doesn’t mean she is incapable of using the other three chemical control methods however it does mean that she has a higher affinity with her natural chemical, which would be hydrogen.

Jaylin: What’s up ma, what’s up T, what’s up Ty.

Ty and T were Jaylin’s sisters, Ty is four foot nine with an afro and is light skinned and T is four foot ten inches, with braids, and dark skin like Jaylin and his mother. His mother was as you seen, a hydrogen mage, a chemical with many unique bonding abilities, however it’s not just her chemical that makes her a mage, it’s her ability to combine various chemicals with already existing chemicals, this makes her a rather rare variant type of a ranger chemical user, another one of the four chemical classes who focuses on making projectiles out of their own or other chemicals and using it as a form of attack. While they ate and talked they heard a knock on the door, to which Jaylin’s mother got up and walked to the door to answer it and saw a tall black bald man in an all black suit and when he spoke you could see that he was missing one of his top teeth.

The man: I’m here to collect my dues.

Jaylin’s mother: I’m sorry I don’t have it today, I get paid tomorrow.

The man: You said that yesterday. Now where the hell is my money?

Jaylin’s mother: I promise I’ll have it by tomorrow around five in the afternoon.

The man: You have one more chance I don’t get my money, I'll have you and your family scrounging around on the streets for any dime you can find.

Jaylin’s mother: I will thank you, now if you’ll kindly leave my door.

The man: I’ll be watching to make sure you do.

Upon the rude man’s exit, Jaylin’s mother closed the door gently and muttered under her breath how much of a worthless asshole he was. She then entered the kitchen and looked at Jaylin, T, and Ty and told them that it was time for bed as they had school in the morning. After hearing her say this they all lined up at the sink, cleaned their dishes one by one and then did what they needed to before heading up to bed and into their rooms. While sitting on his bed Jaylin thought about the new school year and what he wanted to do with his chemical and the abilities he had and will soon master. Jaylin held his hand in front of his face and thought deeply about how his chemical was different from his mother’s, unlike his sister’s whom were both mages like his mother, he had taken after his father whom had a different chemical making it so he was unable to do many of the things mages do without mass amounts of practice and effort, he resented his father for receiving this chemical, it was entirely his preference to have been a mage like the rest of his family. After this thought he soon drifted off with thoughts of the new school year in mind.
