20 hours after the appearance of the mysterious shop in Jack Lily City, Serninon
Governor was waiting with numerous guards just a few blocks away from the shop. His daughter and two of his trusted colleagues had gone inside the shop and did not come out; next, a criminal had also entered the shop, and no one had come out. Understanding the gravity of the situation was crucial here. Currently, there were three people inside the shop whom he wanted to return and one who he did not care about. However, that one person was a variable he would not have put in there if he could.
An Entity above the Saint level who could burn down counties with a wave of their hands was not someone you could take chances with; it's either you survive, or you do not survive.
Was it an opportunity? Maybe. Could this opportunity turn into a game of survival? Again, yes. The factors here were extremely different than when he was dealing with capital politics. In politics, power mattered only in chaotic times, and that had long passed; now, the opinions of people were the judges, and your abilities to manipulate were the advocates. People in power could only occupy the position of executioners.
However, when it comes to the vast sea of stars, it is always in chaotic times. The rules of the jungle do not just exist in the forests filled with woods anymore, but the dark forest in the sky made from countless stars also had the same rule. In the vast sky, there is no government, no opinions of people, nor is there any right or wrong; it is but a struggle for power.
Tariel could not understand the reason why no one had come out of the shop yet, but he did not need to understand that as long as the shop was still here. Yes, indeed, the shop had disappeared just a few minutes after the serial killer had entered it, but it appeared back within moments. Such a scene had indeed shocked him, but the shock did nothing to him; what could any surprise do to him to change his decision when he can not make a decision in the first place?
While logic screamed for him not to, Tariel found his footsteps not in his own control, with willpower that had once led him to be a war hero at the age of 14, he still could not stop himself, or maybe it was indeed the iron like willpower that allowed his feat to move towards certain danger. Maybe it was rather the struggle between the willpower of his survival that fought against the willpower of a father who could not let his daughter face the Unforeseen consciousness of offending a Continental Calamity.
Fear gripping his heart could not stop him from admiring the unseen wonders of the shop. Or maybe it was only his survival that forcefully made him appreciate the ordinary just because the owner of this place was extraordinary.
It was a code in intelligent life, a rule that remains unbroken. The most basic things become extraordinary when done by powerful people, but when extraordinary is done by a weak person, it is only envy that controls our actions. Thus for Tariel, even a blade of grass in the house of a Saint felt like it had life worth more than his own.
Upon entering the shop, he found a large garden and not far from it was the reception and a few other rooms, such as the Request Room and Sitting. But what caught his attention was a young man grilling something in the garden and around him was a pungent smell of spices. Spices that he had not seen before were decorated on a table nearby the grill, where the young man was putting the grilled.. What was he grilling? It appeared to be something completely white and was in cubes as well as some vegetables which he could not recognise.
“Oh, hello, patron; my apologies; I could not greet you probably. As you can see, I'm preparing some snacks.” The young man apologized after putting down his cooking equipment.
“No worries, no worries,” Tariel replied in a calm voice. No matter how agitated he was, his experience in the parliament had at least taught him something about hiding his emotions. Of course, while he did try to hide his emotions, he was not overly confident either. As for someone on a higher spectrum of power, the perception was also a lot higher, so he was not confident that he could actually hide anything at all from the Supreme.
Indeed, Tariel had accepted that he was in front of a Supreme, despite the low number of appearances that Saints had made on Earth, he had indeed been in the presence of one. A close presence that is, after all, his own grandfather was a Saint; even if that man never cared about his children on different planets, he would come every time a new child was born in the bloodline to check if they had inherited any bloodline from him.
While he could not remember it from the time when he was a child, but he had indeed met him when his daughter had been born.
This experience assured that he could understand the aura emitted by a Saint and the man in front of him had an Aura even stronger than a Saint. A feat that could only be achieved by a Supreme.
“Well, welcome to the Trading Centre, how may I help you.” The young man asked him. The question of age did indeed cross his mind, but understanding that there exist energies other than Spirit Energy and these could indeed grant people longevity, he did not put his mind on it.
“Actually, my Daughter had come to this shop some time ago, and I was just worried about her, so I came to check. You know how a doting father can be.” Tariel asked, “My apologies if it's not something I should be asking.” He added.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
“Ahh, yes I should have warned them to tell their family members. My apologies, the girl and her bodyguards accepted a request from the Request board and are currently on that request. I wish I could tell you more, but I can't breach the confidentiality of the one requesting or completing the request, so I can't really say when they'll be back or what they're doing.” The Shopkeeper replied.
“Ohh, no worries. Just the assurance of their condition is enough for me.” Tariel replied.
“Indeed, I can understand that, as a father, you might be worried. But considering their strength, the request shouldn't be too challenging for them so you can rest assured. Now, why don't you join me in for some snacks? I've made Paneer Tikka, a dish that is quite liked from where I'm from.”
“No, no, I won't impose on you.” Taniel politely declined.
“Come on, I've sent your daughter to another planet for a request, I can at least entertain you for the evening. Please have a seat.” The Shopkeeper insisted.
Declining again would be considered rude, yet he did not want to impose on a Supreme. Let alone eat food that was personally prepared by one. Yet again, the friendly aura around the Shopkeeper gave him the sense that a decline in this situation would be worse than imposing; thus, he sat down across the table.
The Shopkeeper prepared two plates, each containing 8 pieces of the white cheese-like thing and a lot of leaf-like vegetables, each grilled only enough to be cooked but not burned. He was also presented with two different sauces, one green and the other red.
He did not start his dinner but watched the man in front of him. After all table etiquettes were different for each country, let alone for someone in the stars. He watched as the man took a piece of the white square, which had turned brownish after getting cooked and coated in a different sauce, and dipped it in the green sauce and then in the red sauce, after which he directly ate it.
Tariel repeated the same process and was astonished by the blend of flavors in his mouth, the soft yet crunchy texture of the cheese, and the creamy feeling that originated upon chewing it.
However, as he was just about to ask about the dish a voice called out to him.
“Father, what are you doing here?” His daughter asked, who had just appeared behind him.
“Well, he was just waiting for you; after all, you should have informed him about it before going on the quest.” The Shopkeeper answered her before he could.
“Indeed, I was a little worried about you since it had almost been a day,” Tariel added.
“My apologies, Father, for not informing you, as everything happened too fast,” Brígh replied still in the formal tone, indicating that she was aware of the presence of Supreme in the room.
“Well, did you complete the Quest?” Tariel asked.
“Of course father, it wasn't really dangerous. Well, we just needed to plan everything accordingly, and that completely subtracted the possibility of any fights.” Brígh replied cheerfully.
“Now, for your reward, here's the Item that you were promised. I've also contained it to stop further deterioration. You can open the container whenever you want.” The Shopkeeper took out a glass-like suitcase that had a shield inside and gave it to Brígh.
“Thank you, Shopkeeper,” Brígh said.
“Well then, we'll take our leave,” Brígh added.
“Ahh… Shopkeeper, I was just wondering if the other person who had come here after Brígh is also on a quest. Actually, he's a Serial Killer, and as the governor of this small city, I was just a bit concerned.” Tariel asked courageously.
“No, actually, he had made a request to be brought to another planet; however, since he tried to threaten me, I simply left him on a planet that lacks intelligent life.” The Shopkeeper replied.
Tariel gulped silently, ‘Just because someone threatened you, someone who probably can't even touch you, you punished him for lifetime isolation and loneliness.’
“However, if you want him to atone for his sins here, I wouldn't mind that either. I will even offer you a free ride to that planet and back.” The Shopkeeper added.
“No worries, such punishment is fitting for him. Actually, as the governor, I myself would give him life imprisonment.” the governor announced.
After this, all four of them left the shop, and immediately, a meeting was held in the Governor's office.
Brígh, the Guild Master of Mercenary Guild and Head of House Security first recounted their encounter with the Shopkeeper and then their Adventure on the planet Earth.
Brígh also paid her two companies money as the reward should have been for all three but since she needed it and wanted to gift it to her master, she had to pay them their share.
At the end of the meeting, it was decided that they would close the case of the Serial Killer, and it was announced that the Serial Killer had died; as for official documents, they'll write the whole encounter as well as the Serial Killer’s life imprisonment on another planet.
A few hours later, they saw the shop disappearing as the fog covered it all. But of course, all four of them could teleport to the Shop anytime they want.
Everyone who had been in the shop could indeed teleport back to the shop.
If only Harsh had remembered it because currently, he was standing in front of the serial killer who had decided to teleport back to his shop.
“I want to make another request; I couldn't find any civilization, so this time, I want you to send me somewhere with a civilization.”
Harsh, on the other hand, cursed the system for not having a function to ban certain people from teleporting to the shop.
