“Master! Please be careful! This being is at its second stage! Beware of its strength and especially its speed!”
I looked at the blue screen, troubled by the information displayed.
“Master! Get-“ Ordinance’s usually calm voice screamed at me. I looked up from the blue screen at Ordinance’s alarming voice.
“Oh shit!”
I ducked and kicked off the ground, jumping off in a flying tackle to grab hold of Beta with one arm. The tip of my sword in my other hand carved a line in the ground as I flew.
A dark ball of fiery energy brushed against my leg, and I grunted from the icy burn. Picking up Beta, I wrapped him by my side, and we crashed onto the ground. A loud thump sounded from the burst of the dirt behind us.
“Master! You are too fat! I can’t move!”
I ignored Beta’s complaining and shot up back to standing. A mix of brown dust and black mist sprayed the air from impact, leaving a black indentation in the ground.
“Dang it! The Vice Guild Master was right. I need to keep my attention on all of my opponents. Ordinance, keep me updated on any strange movements from either of those two or the others. Especially if I’m focused on one of them.”
“Acknowledged.”
Aden’s pompous smirk returned on his face, but his eyes no longer dared to stray away from me. His summon moved.
My eyes squinted, carefully watching the black-furred creature. It opened its jaw and howled at the sky. I lifted my sword to defend but soon found out I would need much more.
It leaped forward, sprinting with its hind legs. It landed on its powerful arms, scraping up the dirt as it launched into a flying gallop straight at me.
It was so fast. It appeared right before me, swiping its long claws at my neck.
“It’s going for my vitals! This thing is trying to kill me!”
I dropped my stance and raised my sword to parry the blow, but the werewolf was too powerful. The claws clashed with my sword, slamming it down, and piercing it into the ground. I barely held on. Pain pulsed from my strained wrists, shooting up my arms. But I couldn’t falter now. I forced myself to pull out the sword.
The werewolf swung back its other arm for another slash, aiming for my throat. My eyes widened from my exposed position. Time slowed. I couldn’t pull out my sword, so I lifted my hands to block, but I couldn’t move them fast enough. Its thick arms were so close I could smell the mangy odor from its body. Its blade-like claws scratched my neck.
But suddenly, it jerked its claw back. A bolt of lightning blasted down on the spot it stood, forcing it to dive and tumble away into a roll.
“Stay still! Let me cook you! Lightning, fry me some well-done wolf meat! Smite!”
The sky rumbled again, shooting down another bolt of lightning.
Aden ordered a command. “Saena! Enshroud! You know what to do!”
Another lightning bolt struck the ground as the werewolf dodged and rolled away again.
Clouds of black fog shot out the Lycan’s mouth, shrouding the surroundings in darkness.
“Master! Beta has three skills currently available. Smite of Lightning for attack, Elemental Barrier for defense, and Blessings of the Elements to increase stats for seven minutes. I advise you to use Barriers of the Light Element to give you visibility.”
I nodded and followed Ordinance’s guidance. “Beta! Light up the area with Light Barrier! Space out your barriers!”
Triangular prisms of light illuminated the surroundings, lifting the darkness.
“Master!-“
“Shit!”
But the werewolf was already upon us. I pulled up my sword to defend myself again.
“Beta! Shield us!”
“I’ll do one better!” Beta shoved both hands above his head and clasped them together, simultaneously casting a Barrier of Metal and Smite.
Double-layered metal sheets shot out from the ground and formed a metal prism around us. The werewolf’s massive claws slashed down, cleaving four open slash marks on the metal barrier; but it still held against the attack.
I glanced at the gash in the metal and paled. I shuddered at the thought about what would have happened should the claws had cut through.
The werewolf was fast and relentless. It used its momentum and twirled, slashing down again. But it suddenly backflipped and rolled away from a strike of lightning.
An idea popped into my mind. I jerked, turning and gripping Beta’s shoulders.
“Beta! How many more times can you use the barrier and smite skill?!”
“Hey! Stop shaking me!” I let go, realizing my state.
“Sheesh. Ok. I’ll slowly recover soul energy, but I can use the Blessings plenty more, but the skill doesn’t stack. Maybe fifteen for the barrier and eight more times for the lightning, master. Why?“
“We can’t defeat that summon in a physical fight, even with the both of us combined. Can you confine it? If we hold it down long enough, we can attack the summoner. We can power up and attack him. We must move quickly with a surprise attack and beat down that Aden guy. Do you think you can do it? Ordinance, your thoughts?”
“Master, I will coordinate with Beta to predict its movements. We must push it back to close the distance between us and the enemy summoner.”
“The wolf is fast. But I should be able to catch it. I’ll have to corner it. The beast will be cooked meat once I catch it. Let me add something to your plan master. I can Devour it while it’s trapped.”

“No. I don’t want to kill it.”
“What?! Why?! They’re enemies! Master! That thing is trying to kill you!”
“No. If the Vice Guild Masters are not taking any action to kill them, we shouldn’t either.”
“Che. Fine. Then I won’t kill it. I will just suck its soul energy. You said as long as I don’t kill it, right? No, takebacks, master! If I can’t eat wolf meat, I will drink it’s energy!”
“Ugh. Fine! Extract the energy, but you must come quickly to help me!”
“What would you ever do without me, master? Let’s eat!”
“On my mark, Beta. I’m highlighting the area in blue for you to strike. Continuously strike down on the blue area. Keep at least one of each skill for emergencies.”
“Yea, yea. I got it! Go! Stop wasting time!”
The werewolf latched onto the tip of the metal prison with its claws, prying back the sides like a flower. The metal screeched unwillingly, bent out of shape. It grinned, opening its jaw, ready to tear us trapped inside.
I jerked my head back. My eyes stretched wide, and my heart pounded from within my chest like it was trying to burst out and run away. The horrid breath blowing out of its mouth made me want to cover my nose, and it snapped its maw down at us.
“Damn monster! Eat this instead!”
I pulled back. Welling up all my strength, I shoved my sword up through the metal barrier’s opening, attempting to pierce the creature.
It chomped onto my sword and latched its jagged teeth around my blade. I wiggled it violently, attempting to cut through the monster’s mouth. But it held on firmly. A devious glint flashed in its eyes. It suddenly let go as I pulled on my sword, only to clamp down again when I jerked back and lost control of my balance.
I stumbled to the ground.
“Bad dog! Smite!” Beta shouted.
The werewolf moved faster than lightning. It tossed my weapon away and lunged down at me. Its maws opened wide, and I raised my arm to shield my face. The inevitable happened. I braced myself, and the maw snapped shut around my arm. Its razor-sharp teeth sunk into my flesh, and my blood splattered.
“AAHHH!!!”
I whammed down punches at the harrowing snout. As fast as it clamped down, it pulled back, shredding my flesh as it pushed itself away from the bolt of lighting. The metal prism acted like a lightning rod and absorbed the lightning strike.
“MOTHER F’ER!” I swore and grunted. “Aw, shit!” I hissed, looking at the wound.
The cool air stung the open serrated flesh ripped from my arm. I moaned, holding out my arm. Deep red blood streamed down my arm, but I had to focus.
“Beta! Use Blessings of the Elements on both of us!”
“All of the elements? Alright! That’s what I like to hear!”
The gold hair of Beta’s little girl form fluttered in the wind. A soft flowing white aura encased his skinny cyborg frame. It suddenly pulsed in a rippling myriad of colors glittering off the silver metallic wires and coils around his body. The aura gushed over from Beta and wrapped around me. The stream of blood stopped, but the wound remained open.
“Displaying stats only, Master. Please be aware the effects of the Blessings last only seven minutes. You will be left vulnerable due to overuse of your body.” Ordinance then relayed orders to Beta. “Make sure to keep at least two of each skill for emergencies!”
“Yea, yea. Hurry up! I’m hungry!”

My arm ached at every little movement, but a burst of energy coursed through my body. The veins of my arms protruded out and pulsed madly. Heat wafted off my muscles, enlarged and bulked by the rapid blood circulation in my body. The rush of energy subdued the pain; further soothing the frantic electric signals racing through my nerves. The restless panic calmed, and my mind cleared.
“Beta! Cancel the Metal Barrier, and let’s move according to plan.”
“Protein shake, coming right up! Double Smite!”
With Beta no longer maintaining the barrier, I easily pushed over and toppled one side of the prism.
Thunder rumbled, and two bolts of lightning struck down. All four limbs of the werewolf pushed off the ground in a backflip and rolled away. Lightning bolts crashed down side by side and missed, but it forced the monster back.
It bolted forward again. Each kick off the ground lifted its body to fly forwards; however, Ordinance calculated the landing area and highlighted it blue for Beta to strike down again. Beta struck down lightning bolt after lightning bolt, forcing the werewolf backward on every strike.
“Now!” I ordered Beta.
“You got it!”
On the werewolf’s last backflip, a prism of metal shot out of the ground, about to encase it inside. It used its powerful arms and flipped itself over, pushing off the enclosing side of the prism.
“Shoot! Almost!” Beta shouted.
It smirked at Beta midair, but Beta mischievously grinned back. “For you, that is. Got you.”
A wider metal prism shot out and enclosed tightly around it. Echoes of colliding metal reverberated from within the metal as smaller inner layers continued confining it inside.
A muffled howl and clawing against metal reverberated from inside. The metal barrier trembled at the furious werewolf rampaging inside from Beta’s trick.
“I’m so thirsty!” Beta dashed forward with twice its normal speed.
“Beta! Watch out!”
My warning was unnecessary. Beta nonchalantly sidestepped the oncoming black ball of energy, trailing a fading line of black mist.
Beta remained unphased. He slammed his frail hands on the prism, drooling at his next meal.
“The big bad wolf is going to be eaten. Extract!”
A silent pause wafted in the air.
Ripples of something dark fluctuated around Beta. An ominous black outline circled around him, pulling at the air. The ambient origin energy in the air, usually unseen to the naked eye, condensed and appeared around Beta’s black aura. It devoured all the particles of origin energy.
A different type of howl roared from within the metal barrier. Fear. The werewolf whimpered and desperately clawed at the barrier.
“Yes. Scream for me. Let me enjoy my meal.” I froze from the unusually somber tone of Beta’s voice. He then glanced back at me with a devious grin. Shivers ran down my spine. “Come Master, let’s feast. Metal Barrier!”
Sheets of metal burst from the ground, imprisoning Aden. Banging on the metal sounded out from within the barrier, but I could not look away from Beta. The face of the miniature version of Lady Gwendell creeped me out. The whites of Beta’s eyes flickered in ecstasy. He grinned at his meal and bobbed for me to come to join in.
“Master. Come. Eat.”
I didn’t know why, but I walked over and placed my hands on the cold iron-like metal. The clawing on the metal lessened to that of scratching.
I felt it. The swirling energy pulled out from the slowly weakening werewolf. Suddenly the swirl split and came into me.
“Master! Stop making me spoon-feed you! You may be younger than me, but that doesn’t mean I should baby you!”
I used my second soul skill and extracted the soul energy from the caged werewolf. I felt it. That sudden rush from earlier, but it felt slightly different. It was more satiating.
“Why was there a difference in Beta’s Extract from mine? Ordinance, didn’t you say they were the same?”
A blast sent a side of the metal prism locking in Aden flying. “Get away from Saena! Liken, blast them!”
