Chapter 1 - Worth

What was it?

What was I doing before?

A hazy fog in his mind. He could not recall anything, it felt so surreal, almost as if a dream. Was he still dreaming?

However, before he could get any answers, the hazy fog dispersed.

A tiny light surrounded by darkness took its place.

A young man, in his early 20s slowly opened his eyes.

It was a bit dark, he felt the cold hard floor that he was lying on. It was a piercing cold. He slowly sat up, letting his eyes adjust and trying to regain his thoughts.

He squinted and blinked his eyes a few times before closing them tightly and then breathing out loudly. Opening his eyes slowly, he slowly started to recollect his thoughts.

Where am I? I was at home before... just how did I get here?

Not being able to recall even after thinking for a while, the man decided to look around. Slowly picking himself up and wobbling a little in the process, he proceeded to straighten himself up and scanned around.

It was a small room, there was a tiny window that was barred high up that he couldn't reach normally. A door that seemed to be heavily reinforced was a few steps away from him, and the last thing he saw was a metallic desk in the corner of the room. There was nothing else besides these things.

He slowly walked to the door and twisted the door handle. An ominous thought appearing in his head while doing so.

It isn't locked!

His heart started to beat faster.

Hold on, was I kidnapped?! Did they forget to unlock the door or do they want me to come out? Did they really make that mistake?

His heart felt like it would jump out of his chest, he felt himself becoming queasy and uneasy.

No, calm down, calm down. They might have forgot to lock it.

He made sure he didn't make any sounds twisting the door knob back to the original position. He looked to the desk's drawers.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

There must be something of use in there!

He walked to the desk and one by one rifled through the drawers trying to find something of use.

"Please...please."

As if answering to his prayers, he found a small hunting knife in the second drawer measuring about 6 inches. The rest of the drawers were empty, however.

With shaking hands, he held the knife in his right hand and again slowly made his way to the door.

"Okay...okay. I can do this." Mumbling to himself over and over trying to encourage himself.

He was breathing heavily, he could feel himself trembling nonstop. Perhaps, the idea of dying scared him more than he thought. He kept trying to reassure himself that he had no choice, he couldn't stay in here forever. He didn't know how long he stayed like that, one hand holding the knife and one hand holding the door knob, but when he finally decided to open the door, what surprised him was that there was nobody there.

That's right, there was nobody. It was just a long dim hall with a few hazy windows that had some light shining through.

All the tension he felt before seemed to be pointless as his legs gave way and he slowly slumped down, dropping the knife in the process. He laughed at himself for being such a coward.

"What the hell, I was afraid of nothing." Giving a sigh of relief, he shook his head.

No, no. Just cause there's nobody, they might still be around. Should I just wait...?

Ahhh, screw it! I just have to get out of here!

He quickly picked himself up along with the knife, he made sure to take caution and to slowly make his way out.

However, after about only a few steps, appearing out of nowhere a holographic green text box hovered in front of him in the air. Surprised, but his eyes quickly scanned it. When he read it, he felt as if his whole body became cold. He felt that perhaps he should have just stayed in the room.

Welcome to the Tower of Eden.

As one of the participants chosen to take part, you have been granted a chance to become one of the chosen.

Once you take a step out of the safety of the room, your journey would have officially begun.

Should you reach the final floor, all your dreams, desires and wishes shall be fulfilled.

However, in every floor will be trials.

Are you worthy enough to brave the trials or are you just a stepping stone?

As if knowing he had read through it, another text appeared in front of him. This one, even more dreadful than the first.

Floor 1 - Worth

Objective: Survive

Time Limit: Unlimited

An image appeared in front of him. It seemed to be a human child, but looking closer, it was very thin, had green skin, two sharp teeth that protruded out and was hunched over. He had a feeling of what it was, and the text confirmed his suspicions. Underneath the image, was an X sign next to the name goblin.

You're kidding, right? Is this really happening? What the hell is going on?!

As if to tell the man that this was reality, another text appeared. This one made him believe that this was definitely real, this was all real.

FLOOR 1 WILL NOW BEGIN - TARGET WILL NOW SPAWN IN A RANDOM LOCATION.

A loud blaring horn started to sound for a few seconds, then slowly dying out.

Another text box appeared in front of him.
