Leveling-Up

Once Aria got on the boat he cooled down a bit. Instead of being rude and choosing the biggest room for himself, he chose the smallest one and laid on his back on the bed, pulled the blanket over himself, and opened up the cultivation app. Seeing his diagram, he imagined an equal portion of each strand of energy flowing out of his body parts touching the boat, in this case from his back to the boat through the bed. Upon doing so, he noticed that the diagram became three dimensional and he could view different angles by swiping his finger on the screen. He tried this because he could see a diagram of a part of the bed he was on with the energy flowing into it and he was curious if he could see if he could see the entire bed from an overhead view. However, before he was done adjusting his energy flow he felt something land on him on the bed and saw the diagram of a female with animal ears and metal type energy flowing from him and into her.

“Heyyyyy aggressive man! Don’t worry, I agreed to share a room with you…” However, in the middle of her sentence, she felt an energy that was different than qi but similar to her metal-type techniques after transforming her qi flow into her.

Remembering that when this happened to Kara she developed special meridians which is likely uncommon, he immediately cut the energy flow off and jumped out of the bed. However, when he got out of the bed he was stunned. In front of him was a beautiful 19 or 20 year old female, quite petite with, well, his ideal body proportions. She had silver colored hair, purple eyes, and what looked like fox ears. He found her to be quite stunning and was momentarily stunned silent.

Excited about the feeling from the energy she said, “Hey big bro, I’m Sky! What was that energy before? It felt so interesting and reminded me of the metal qi I transform the qi in my body to when I use metal-type techniques, but so much more pure…”

Hesitating, Aria said, “Hey, um… It’s not a great idea if we share a room. I mean, where would we sleep, there’s only one bed…”

“Don’t worry big bro! I don’t mind.” Blushing she continued, “You’re the first man I’ve offered to share a room with… You wouldn’t embarrass me by rejecting me would you?”

Now Aria was in a bit of a dilemma. First of all, obviously he would love to share a bed with someone as hot as Sky, even if they weren’t intimate it would be exciting. However, he was afraid that some energy would leak out into her if she kept physical contact with him through the night which would give up a big secret of his cultivation technique. Also, her dad seemed quite strong and he was afraid that if they got to the city and something happened between them, the family she stays with would go after him.

“Look, you are very pretty but I don’t think I’m a good fit for you… Let’s just pretend this didn’t happen, besides, Aria tends to share a room with me for cultivation.”

Whispering to herself she said, “Cultivation, she mentioned that it wasn’t dual cultivation…” Getting excited she said, “Oh! That energy! Let me stay in here with you guys and cultivate too!”

Feeling a headache about this, Aria said, “It’s a small room so you’ll need to get Kara’s permission before I decide.” He felt really smart after saying that. He felt that there was no way Aria would agree to this because it would imply that she slept in a bed with him and Sky would probably ask in front of everyone else.

After saying that, Aria walked out onto the deck of the boat to cultivate peacefully while watching the scenery as, even on Earth, he always loved the ocean.. So, he laid down on one of the couches and started to peacefully cultivate while sleeping. However, a few minutes later he woke up to Sky sitting on his legs on the other seat of the couch saying, “He big bro, wake up. We’re doing introductions, also I want that energy again, stop withholding it!”

Confused, he looked around and saw everyone else sitting in a seat and noticed Kara speaking, “Alright everyone. So, we’re going to be together for at least six months so we might as well learn about each other. No need to feel pressured to share anything you don’t want to though. Who wants to start?”

Sky jumped up shouting “Me! I’ll start! So, I’m Sky of the Silver family and was born on the Tower’s first level. Twenty years old, at the peak of the skin stage, and I have the bloodline of a silver fox. I’m cultivating to learn more about crafting. The cool thing about a silver fox is that they make great crafters because they have high talent for the metal energy and an innate ability to sense energy.” Smiling over at Aria she said, “Which is why I find Aria so intriguing as I can sense six types of energy with a purity I’ve only sensed from core formation cultivators before. But the most intriguing thing is that while five of them feel like the five elements, the sixth one feels different. Every energy has some kind of ‘feeling’ associated with it but this one doesn’t like it’s empty of anything and I find that attractive.”

Blushing and looking away from Sky, Aria said, “My name is Aria White. I’m at the peak of the bone stage. I’m just a normal human but the reasons I’m cultivating for are…. Complicated,” as he spoke a look at hatred flashed across his eyes. Continuing he said, “Anyways. I’m not from any family and I wasn’t born in the Tower. My role here is to be the guard but I’m not really a morning person so I apologize in advance if I seem rude in the mornings. Also I tend to sleep a lot so if any qi beasts appear just wake me up on the deck.”

Smiling Marg said, “I guess I’ll go next. I’m Marg, a 19 year old water technique cultivator. I’m at the early skin stage and of the Skyfall family which has a branch in Natesh. I’m interested in alchemy but don’t have any experience in it yet. Just a human so no innate abilities.” Marg wore completely blue robes, had a big pair of glasses and gave off a cute feeling.

The third girl introduced herself next, “Hi, I’m Lydia, a 20 year old wood technique user that wants to learn healing. I’m from the Oceana family of water cultivators. I-I-I’m a bit quiet but let me know if you need healed…”

After that, Kara introduced that she was an 19 year old ice-type user and best friends with Aria. She said that they plan to travel together for the foreseeable future but she’s excited to have new friends. Then Liam and Lisa introduced each other. Liam is 14 and of the Natesh family, a family of wood-type cultivators that are prominent in the city of Natesh. He has just barely entered the skin stage. Lisa has a diluted version of the sky fox bloodline. Her father is close friends with Liam’s and became a guest of the Natesh family. Their parent’s went to the first level to seek a medicinal plant that Old Jia had to treat Liam. The treatment would take a year so their parents had to go back but sent family guards to Ishland to pick them up. However, the guards never arrived so they have always wanted to go back to their parents. Lisa is also at the early skin stage.

After introductions, Kara said “Nice to meet you all! I’m going to put a spatial pouch of food in the kitchen so y’all can cook whenever you’re hungry. We brought plenty of food and if that pouch runs out just go to Aria and he has a lot more. Sigh, he does fall asleep alot so don’t be afraid to wake him up as, if anything, you’ll be doing him a favor by getting him to move.”

After she said that, people dispersed to their rooms to make them more comfortable while Aria relaxed and passively cultivated. After reaching her room, Kara noticed Sky walking in and said, “Hey Sky. What can I do for you?”

Smiling, Sky said, “This is kind of embarrassing to say but when silver foxes and those of their bloodline find a mate, they don’t do it based on physical looks or strength. Since we sense energy, it naturally makes an impression on us and each cultivator’s energy signature is slightly different, even if they cultivate the same energy. Once we find an energy signature we find especially ‘exciting’ it leaves an impression on us and it’s unlikely that we will have those same feelings towards anyone else.” Pausing for a moment, she continued, “And… I think Aria’s interesting energy left that impression on me. I just can’t stop thinking of him and my chest pounds when I’m near him. I can tell he’s awkward around women haha, but, he said I could share the room if you agree. I’m not trying to kick you out, I’d just like your permission to stay here since I doubt he’d say no if you agreed.”

Stunned into silence, Kara stared wide-eyed at Sky for a few minutes before sighing, “Sigh, Look, Aria and I are just friends. I only stay with him because we are close and it helps with cultivation so if you want to share a room with him, you're welcome to do so. I’ll be setting up a second bed next to this one and tying my hand to his arm at night to cultivate but not sharing his bed so there’s definitely room.” Immediately after speaking, she saw Sky smiling and running out of the room with a red face.

Once Sky left the room, Kara took out the memory jade with the cultivation technique from Old Jia. However, now that she knows more about memory jades, she was surprised to see it’s color so light it almost looks white. Dropping blood on it, she was immediately surprised. The jade had a mixture of images and videos with very little text. It described a technique called Ice Piercing Soul where the cultivator conditions their ice elemental energy to have a hint of sharpness to it and, upon reaching the Space Core realm, allows the cultivator to directly attack the enemies soul. This technique works best with long range weapons like bows and is very powerful but it has a steep requirement. The cultivator has to have the ability to absorb elemental energy in the body tempering realm with a separate set of meridians for elemental energy before they can circulate the qi and elemental energy according to the technique. Kara realized that without Aria forming her second set of meridians and being able to pass water elemental energy to her, she wouldn’t be able to cultivate this and would likely have to settle for a lower quality technique at the Tower’s second level. So, excited to start cultivating, she walked over to find Aria.

__________

Outside, Aria moved a couch to the top of the house and was relaxing on the roof with his deagle in his right hand since, although it’s summoned to his left hand, he always preferred the right hand to shoot. Just as Sky climbed up onto the roof, he saw a large, demonic-looking fish jump over the deck towards her and shot it with the deagle. However, he was very surprised when the numbers +50 XP popped up in front of his eyes but that surprise soon ended when Sky sat down next to him and clutched his arm.

Grabbing his arm, Sky yelled, “Marg! We have a fish on the deck! Can you take care of it?”

“Woah,” yelled Marg when she saw the fish. “This is a Yellow Demon Fish at the early skin stage. They don’t have many valuable parts but their meat tastes really good. Looks like it’s time to cook some food.” She called out to Lydia and they went into the kitchen to dismantle the fish and cook.

“Anyways, can you show me that energy thing you did in the bed?” Smiled Sky.

“Sky, can’t people have their secrets? I don’t know you well enough to share things like that.” Grumbled Aria. “I just came up here to peacefully cultivate while enjoying the scenery.”

“So that means you’ll tell me when you know me better.” Smiling, she said, “Don’t worry, I won’t bother you. I’ll cultivate here next to you, the scenery is really pretty,” as the sad cross legged on her side of the couch.

After she started cultivating, two more demonic fish jumped out of the water at the boat but Aria took care of them with his deagle. He once again saw +50XP +50XP and shouted to Marg that there’s more fish who came to get them. However, this time he noticed another message, XP Limit reached, Level 2 achieved. Check stats for more information. So, he opened his stats app.

Aria was excited as the system just kept bringing him surprises. It seems that he can not only strengthen himself through cultivation but also through ‘leveling up’. Before he wasn’t really excited to be the guard because doing so meant he had to take on extra responsibility for six other people, however, now that there was this benefit he was ready to go. With an increased ‘Mind’ or mental stat he decided to try the Active Cultivation option again.

Aria opened up the cultivation app and tapped Active Cultivation after entering a meditation pose. This time he kept his eyes open and looked at the app which showed up directions on how to move the elemental energy through his meridians and how to disperse the qi into his body. This massive inflow of energy was extremely painful and Aria estimated that he couldn’t hold it for more than half a day.

As Aria was focusing on cultivation, Kara climbed onto the roof saying, “Dammit Aria. I’ve been looking for you to cultivate, why in the world are you on the roof?” However, she immediately panicked and said, “Aria! What the hell are you doing?! Last time you used this method to cultivate you spat out blood and went unconscious for half a day! Knock it off, it isn’t worth whatever benefits you get.”

Gritting his teeth in pain, he said, “Kara, I have to focus on this. I can control it for about half a day just sit next to me if you want to cultivate…”

So, Kara squeezed on the two person couch on the left of Aria while Sky was on his right. After sitting down, she placed her hand on his shoulder and immediately started circulating her cultivation technique because the amount of qi and water elemental energy was nearly five times more than before. In pain, she grunted as she was getting used to circulating the energy according to her cultivation technique. Once she got used to the intense amount of energy she looked to her left and saw Sky looking at her.

Sky got off the couch, walked over to Kara, and whispered, “Hey Kara. I know he’s worried about people learning about whatever secret he has but I like him and want to know more about him. I won’t ask for details or betray him because he’s imprinted on me so, even if the answer is no, I’m still going to go where he goes. Anyways, would he mind if I held his arm to cultivate with him too?”

Smiling, Kara felt that he was telling the truth and decided to trust her. She nodded her head and said, “Alright. I’ll trust you on this but if you betray us, you might become the first person I kill. Him and I have a goal and I won’t let you interfere.” Then she whispered to Aria as Sky sat down next to him and grabbed his arm, “I think you can trust her. If she betrays us, I’ll handle it”
