Shopping for better Equipment 2: The Search for more Money

When everyone was gathered around the table Carthus looked over checking to make sure everyone was here. He told his employees to return to their work, after informing them of Hethara’s proclamation.

Carthus raised his hand and Jacob realized he was going to miss it if he did not hurry. He wanted to know how the platform worked, he had some theories, but he needed more data to confirm.

Jacobs shot his head back to watch as the process unfolded. He heard the god snap his finger and for a moment he felt the world drop out beneath him. He watched as time itself seemed to slow to a crawl. His eyes darted around the room to see how the others were reacting only to see that they were not.

‘Must be the buff to perception I got from the Roc. My mental clock is running faster.’ Jacob thought as he returned his attention to the edge of the cubic area. He felt a great sense of motion as for a brief moment he saw it. As if it were a snapshot, he saw another cubic platform moving toward and then past them in the direction they were moving away from.

‘Castling.’ Jacob thought, ‘So that’s how this thing works. Of course, he would not be wasting godly power on teleporting platforms around. The platforms are enchanted, and he has it rigged up to trigger when he snaps!’

All at once the moment was over, his friends blinking none the wiser as to how they had moved. Save for the fact that Carthus had snapped his fingers and they were back where they had started.

“Jacob mentioned that you all needed new equipment.” Carthus said as he gestured toward his vast warehouse of equipment and items of a more questionable nature. Jacob turned to Carthus with a serious expression upon his face, “I’m not interested in buying them; however, I am curious. How much are the deck and the monkey’s paw?”

Carthus looked at him somewhat surprised, “The deck is on loan from a friend of mine and is not for sale. The paw is a cursed item as you well know and is not for sale. Selling things that are cursed is bad for business.” Jacob was mildly impressed at the restraint shown by the god of commerce.

Jacob stood up and gave Hethara a kiss as she began walking back toward the door, “Saturday remember!” Jacob called out as she reached the door, she turned back to look at him smiling with glee.

Jacob examined some armor, but something told him that his armor choices would be restricted due to being a Totem Master. ‘Light armor will be the most I can wear.’ Thought Jacob.

He had Calista help him finding a functional set of light armor, after she had her new underling sit at the table and told them not to try stealing anything. The set he settled on was one that fit him nicely. It was emblazoned with Pheonix imagery.

It was light but seemed sturdier than most of the heavier sets of armor. When he asked, he found out it was made from Mithril. He was thankful that the armor came with bracers of protection.

He was told that he had to take the time to attune to the item to get the most use out of it. “Is there a limit to the number of items I can be attuned to?” Calista looked at him confused for a second before remembering who she was talking to, “No but kind of. Most people are only able to attune to three items max at any time.”

“However, there are some ways around it. I heard artificers can get like six at higher levels. I heard that one archmage managed to attune to four, another who got to four was an archdruid, both were pretty high level though. No one knows how high it could be for a Totem Master.”

“Probably an issue with intelligence, or wisdom. Maybe even some soul stat or something like that.” Calista simply shrugged her shoulders. Jacob was thankful that the armor only counted as one item for attunement.

When asked if he would be purchasing a weapon, Jacob said he would be sticking with his staff, which was no where in sight. At her confusion Jacob held out his hand and the staff appeared in it. “This is one of my classes features. This staff has become my soul bound weapon. Now that I think about it…”

Jacob moved with Calista over to the main desk where Carthus was sitting behind waiting for them to walk up and purchase his wares.
