"Keeper, I would like to know more about my Gift," said Lostlyne, exhausted.
[Certainly]
In an instant, Lostlyne already knew the details of his gift, as if it were an old memory unlocked.
The amazed young man said, "But, this Gift is incredible! It's the most absurd power I've ever heard of in my life!"
Gift: Last Hope
Description: As long as there is a glimmer of hope and a will to live within you, your gift will be able to change and enable you to face the obstacles in your path.
"So the time travel in this era would be a consequence of this gift?"
[Yes and no. Time travel is an ability you have acquired, but I directed you to this year.]
"And why?" Lostlyne asked, confused.
[To confront the looming threat of the four Knights.]
"And who are the four Knights? Who are you? Why is it my task to face them?"
[I am a being from another dimension.]
"Dimension? So, from a dungeon?"
[Something like that, let's say from a dimension outside of your time and not connected to the rest.]
"And what makes this dimension special? If it's not connected by any portal, how can you talk to me?"
[The few inhabitants of this dimension are beings with a strength beyond the norm; compared to you, we are like gods.]
[As superior beings, we decided to maintain the balance of other dimensions thanks to our superhuman abilities.]
[But the others could no longer forgive the arrogance and mistakes of other creatures, the other races from other worlds, including yours.]
[They decided to conquer all worlds.]
[So, they decided to use their powers to connect with other creatures, granting them special gifts and enhanced characteristics compared to the norm.]
[I, therefore, decided to find someone to do the same thing the other ancestors did but to have a protector, someone who could prevent their ascension and victory.]
"I understand the matter. Are there other people on our side?"
[Unfortunately, no. I am the last one left in my land.]
"But the Knights are much stronger than me. How can I hope to face them and protect our world?"
[The gift I gave you of time travel allowed us to bring the fifth knight into existence before the others.]
"So, I would be the fifth Knight?"
["Exactly."]
"If I went back to my time, would I have the chance to defeat them?"
[You would have some chance.]
"And how do I find them?"
[Unfortunately, I am not omniscient. The other ancestors managed to hide the identity of their Knights.]
[It is possible, indeed more than probable, that they come from other portals.]
"But from what we know, the Four Knights appeared years after my awakening."
"This makes me think that they remained hidden or woke up after me."
[I presume they started conquering other worlds.]
"So the me of this time didn't have my powers?"
[You and he are no longer the same person, as you are embarking on a different path that will change this future.]
"How can I become stronger? Can't you enhance or train me?"
[Unfortunately, I can't do more than this. Your body and mind are not yet ready for more power, and it could corrode you to the soul, and I am consumed by fatigue. It's difficult to stay hidden and share my power with you.]
"These messages bother me; can't we communicate in another way?"
[I don't think you're ready to hear my voice; you could have serious problems with your brain, and I'm also unable to establish a stronger connection.]
["You have the option to go back now if you agree."]
"Not yet. I know I can become stronger here and discover more about the Knights."
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"The Paladin spoke some time ago about the Savior; he is the person who might know more."
["I'm fine with that."]
"Currently, what is my rank?"
Rank D.
"Incredible, I've improved, I can't believe it."
"I thought I would remain a rank E for my whole life."
Exhausted, Lostlyne undressed from his armor, went to bed, and slept for hours.
Waking up refreshed, he noticed that he had slept for fourteen hours and hurriedly got up to put on his armor, realizing it had disappeared. Immediatly, he ran down the stairs yelling:
"Who the hell entered my room and stole my armor?!"
"It won't be one of those slimy merchants from a few months ago that we welcomed and who stole my food ration!" he shouted, adding some curses.
"Calm down, Lostlyne," said the Paladin.
"I went to wake you up, but you kept sleeping. You were really exhausted."
"So, I decided to give Marcel your armor and repair it as much as possible."
"Ah, thank you. Sorry if I missed training and the patrol ."
"The trainings you meant, but no problem, we'll make up for it immediately."
"Oh, damn, fine. Any information about the patrol from the other shelters?"
"There's some news, indeed."
"It seems that the Savior is coming back; we'll finally be able to introduce you to him."
"We also managed to connect overseas with South Korea," added Rusvald, climbing the stairs.
"We found out that the S-rank hunter Bong-Joo managed to repel one of the knights together with two young Japanese hunters, Suzuhara, a certain Fujiko, and the Savior."
"It's wonderful news that there are still so many S-rank hunters alive after so many years."
"Exactly, Lostlyne. Without the Savior, I don't know how many people would have died."
"ALERT ALERT!" shouted a sentinel.
"WHAT'S HAPPENING?"
"A BATTLE IS GOING ON, SIR!"
"WHO ARE THEY?"
"They seem to be a Knight and the Savior!"
"General Rex is already out with other hunters fighting the monsters attracted by the battle!"
"I'm going out immediately! Lostlyne, stay here to protect the shelter! Be careful with Evelyn!"
"The knights can't know where we're hiding!"
After the Paladin left, Lostlyne turned to Rusvald and said:
"Old Rus, I can't just stay here doing nothing. Stay here; I'll send back some hunters."
"Alright, run, but be careful. Remember, you're the most important pawn in this battle."
"Paladin! Wait!"
"What are you doing here, Lostlyne? I told you to stay inside! Do you know how important you are to the mission?!"
The two were interrupted by a noise, and turning around, they noticed a horde of monsters against a smaller number of hunters. Meanwhile, between the buildings, two figures were fighting.
Lostlyne, with the intention of getting closer, was stopped by the Paladin:
"Stay away from those two," Lionheart said worriedly while gripping his sword.
"That aura they emit, making you feel oppressively ill, is from one of the Knights, while the other is the Savior."
Concluding this brief monologue, the Paladin ran towards the battle, helped the fallen hunters by eliminating some monsters, and later joined the main battle.
After a brief exchange of blows, the Savior fell from the building where they were fighting, and with him, the enemy. The latter intended to deliver the finishing blow, but unfortunately for him, the Paladin did not stand still and attacked the Knight.
"What warrior would interrupt a duel?" said annoyed, revealing herself as a girl with human features.
"Face someone at your level, Knight!" shouted the Paladin, charging towards the opponent.
"I'm not just a Knight, I'm Koro, the one who will tear apart both you and that man who has been trying to kill me for a long time!"
In the meantime, the Savior removed his cloak that covered him up to his head, revealing a light armor composed of pieces of other equipment. But what attracted more attention was his weapon, a broken sword that seemed to contain a majestic power.
The Savior didn't seem very old; in fact, he was younger than the Paladin, but he didn't carry his years well. His hair was long, tied but dirty; he had a dark, moderately unkempt beard, and physically, he seemed athletic, but the lack of an arm was evident, replaced by another mechanical left limb of metal color.
Lostlyne headed towards the Savior to help him. The owner of the broken sword, covered in blood, turned his head to see who was running towards him, and for the first time, he seemed to show some emotion. The head guild master's eyes were wide open, and his gaze was bewildered as he looked at Lostlyne running towards him.
"I recognize your face well; what's your name?"
"Lostlyne, sir, are you the Savior? Rus gave me a kit; let me help you."
"Don't call me that," he got up laboriously and continued, "stay still."
"Lostlyne Miller?" the man asked.
"Yes, how do you know?"
"Simple, because I am Lostlyne Miller."
"Who are you?" said the man covered by blood-
Lostlyne said, "what do you mean? Wait, does that mean I'm alive in this era?!"
The Savior: "Of course, I am alive, and what do you mean by era? Do you mean you traveled through time?"
"I know myself, and I'm not capable of time travel, and I have never known anyone capable of it."
"This means that my family is still alive?"
"We'll postpone everything until later."
So, the older version of Lostlyne with one hand managed to summon a kind of portal and entered it, disappearing and reappearing behind Knight Koro, whom he stabbed in the back with his broken blade.
"What an incredible ability! Is that me in a few years?"
["That would have been you if you hadn't obtained the Gift of Last Hope."]
"So no cool teleportation powers?"
["Exactly."]
While Koro was falling, collapsing to the ground, the Paladin took advantage of the situation to use his notorious ability Justice, which allowed him to create a coffin from the ground powered by the Paladin's energy, acting as a containment cage for the opponent.
Koro, who seemed to have sensed the danger of the S-rank hunter's ability, responded by using one of her own abilities. With her hand, she managed to touch a skyscraper that was still partially standing a few centimeters away. Upon contact, the building immediately collapsed, and the Savior acted immediately by teleporting himself and the Paladin to a safer area.
Koro, taking advantage of the commotion, managed to escape. The Savior, who had seen where she had fled, said nothing because the conditions of all the hunters were terrible.
Without uttering a word, the two hunters who fought Koro supported the battle against the monsters, which, thanks to their powers, ended within about twenty minutes.
All the survivors returned to the shelter; the wounded went to Rusvald to be treated, while the others left with a frightened and scandalized air to their rooms.
The Savior, who was particularly injured from the battles he had undergone against the Knight, did not go to be treated but remained with the Paladin and Lostlyne in the main hall.
"Paladin, I think you owe me some explanation," said the Savior.
"He is Lostlyne, maybe it's better if you rest for a while because the explanation is very long."
"I don't think I can rest knowing that there is someone here posing as me."
"For you? Do you mean that you would be our Lostlyne?!"
"Yes, and this one here claims to have come from the past, is that true?"
"I believe him; he has all my trust."
"As you may have understood from the young me, I was a big fan of yours; therefore, I have esteem and trust in you."
The three of them headed to the meeting room to continue the conversation.
