The early years of his marriage was ideal. It was something most people would watch green-eyed; similar to the romantic fairy tales that get told every so often.

People would dismiss their marriage as unrealistic, and under the fold they were hiding all the flaws. Yet, they couldn't dispute the fact that this so called 'unrealistic relationship' was based in reality, and not in fiction.

Since after all, his smile and gaze had told everything everyone needed to know.

Now, middle-aged, his wife started to become a lot more irritating. Nagging turned to arguments, and arguments turned to insults, which turned to fights. After each fight they stopped talking to each other, sometimes even for the whole day, but he knew that they would always make up with each other.

They always would.

But, years go by, and a day came that he never knew could even come; The glint, the sweet sparkling of his wife's eyes was slowly being washed away by the same waves he watched as he sat on the pier bench.

As the breeze fluttered his hair, he glanced down at his already-aged hands. Wrinkly, and elastic. He hadn't a clue as to why, but he couldn't even recall his wedding anymore; not as vivid as he used to remember.

The old radio that sat on the rusted garbage bin suddenly started to static, then began playing a song he heard in his middle school days.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Every time they fought, he came here to clear his mind, and every time the song never failed comfort him. It was an odd little thing, that radio. It would impatiently start when he got there, then faded to a stop when he got up to leave. He even felt as if it were alive.

He looked back up towards the shore where the waves had met the shimmering sand.

The wife he loved so much was quickly fading from memory. She wasn't the same. Her hair was whiter, her bubbly personality had fizzled out, and she became much more distant the past few years.

The reason he came to this pier now, in a way, is because of a silent fight he was currently fighting. Maybe she would start a real one with him when he went back, but that didn't matter right now.

They'd always had fights nowadays anyway.

But, even though that was the case, he felt something was off this time around. They were both already old-timers, and fighting at this age just didn't sit right with him. And even though she started to change in his eyes, she was and still is the wife he's loved ever since he was young.

He fell for no one else harder, and ever will. So even if her appearance changes, and her personality fizzes, she's still the one he promised his entire life to.

So before anything else happens, he decided that it was time to get up and leave.

But it was too late.

Weeks go by, and he went back to the pier. It's where his memories swam, and hers as well.

As the breeze crosses his face, the radio statics then plays the song again.

He stared at the running waves. The cold breeze and scenery put him at greater ease.

He wished he could stay here forever; and maybe, now he could. Maybe he will.

He'd closed his eyes, just for a moment, emptying his head and focusing on the sound of crashing waves and the caress of the wind.

The song had repeated once again, and again, and again.

Even long after he was gone.
