A day in midnight

It's been a few hours

since I was reverted back to a child. I went back to that alley and lay where I had been sleeping before this hell started. I just lay there, thinking of everything before getting here. I remember my name, Which is good, I remember where I was, but I don't know how I got here. Okay, retrace your steps, then look for a police officer to find your family. They will understand once they see me. Here's hoping they don't freak out too much or fail to recognize me. Nah, what parent forgets their own kid.

Oh god, I'll never hear the end of it from my sister or brother; he's gonna hold this over my head with one of his whack job theories. After sulking, I found my phone. Which is remarkable but not uplifting when I tried to turn it on. Nothing happened, so I have no map to tell me where I am.

Great, so I have a dead phone in a random city. Hopefully, I can get it recharged at a station or something. Just have to wait until then. Knowing that I would be able to call my folks soon helped me find a bright side to this whole thing. I finally had time to think about what the hell happened to me and why it had to happen to me. I tried to recall anything that would help me understand how I got here. Do you know what I realized? Nothing, the answer was nothing. I was on the streets with my family checking out a market yesterday, and nothing happened that would lead to this. I didn't piss off a wizard or a wise old woman. Maybe the Illuminati was real after all and decided to kidnap and de-age a random person for some fucked up reason. Nothing rational was the answer. Nothing rational might be the reason. Looked at the wall for a few seconds. Oh my god, get it together.

Okay, dusting my saggy pants and now realizing I should probably find a belt, so they don't fall off. I'm wearing jeans, for Christ's sake, and before my growth spurt. When I get my hands on whoever did this. I swear they will never take a single step without flinching at every noise they hear.

On the bright side, my size and weight will bounce right back after finding a scientist or a wizard or something to undo this. But I may have to be prepared for growing up again.

"No!no!no!no!no, stop; you are not getting comfortable with this; okay, you are not going to stay as a kid, it's fine, it's fine, you're fine. Just find a police officer and calm down." I repeated my breathing exercises for several minutes before I calmed down.

Getting back on track, I step off the alley again only to realize I don't have my shoes on. Fuck! Okay, okay, calm down. What's the first step to finding the police station? Ask the locals. People had been walking by the alley I was in and seemed to have not noticed me. So I walked out and asked for directions. Instead of a decent person helping a kid, what I got was.

"Oh I'm sorry I don't know."

"Oh I'm sorry I can't help you."

"It's five miles that way good luck."

Were the responses I got instead of real help. Bunch of bastards, one would think to be a decent person and help a poor kid alone on the streets. Strange that they are not wearing masks, though. Fuck it; I prepped a makeshift mask by ripping part of my shirt. Even in my situation, I still don't want to risk any more problems with Covid. Finally, a lovely woman was kind enough to talk to me long enough to ask me questions. Seeing how this was the only person who spoke to me, I played deep into the scared kid act to get her help.

"You are alright sweetie." I shake my head

"Are you lost." Nod

"Do you know where you are " shake

"do you remember you parents number" I look at her with a tearful expression? Good god, my tears were legit at that moment. Maybe I should have tried acting when I was young.

"do you know where the police station is" shake, I just needed someone to get me there.

"do you need help getting there" nod

"would you like some help getting there"

"yes please," trying my best to put on the innocent act to win her sympathy. She smiled and reached for my hand, which I timidly grabbed, and she started walking in one direction with my fate in her hands.

" Thanks you miss."

"your very welcome young man whats your name," she said, smiling at me.

"my name is Adam, Adam michealevis."

"my name is Linda, Linda Balms."

Only after a few seconds of walking did I feel relief. Phew, that was close. I thought she would ask if I had a phone; now, logically, the smartest thing to do was to call my folks, but I still don't know if this may not have been a plot from a mastermind or a crazy psychopath, and I wouldn't risk it until I was with proper authorities

When walking, I realized that I was in a child's body, escorted by a stranger. Yeah, people can call that strange it didn't register to me until halfway through my walk. Still, I'm not gonna turn down the only person who actually responded to me. On the off chance she is a weirdo or worse, I just run and scream, but that's only if. I learned that Her name is Linda balms, and she told me a bit about where I am. She said it was not New York City but someplace called Midnight city. I had never heard of it. But that could be because I probably don't know where it is on the map, but something was bugging me about this place, and I don't know what it was. It felt like something was missing. I put it on the back burner for now as I found something different about my body.

While Adam was looking at the skyscrapers and random buildings with a curious look, his actions did not go unnoticed.

"You okay, sweetie." I nod

"I know the city can be a big scary place but there is no need to be afraid we'll be at the police station and they can further help you out" a nod was my response

"this your first time in midnight city," she said

"yeah everything looks so real and clear like that sign other there I don't reco-" noticing the silence

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"something wrong"

"no no it's nothing. just I can see that sign and it's only a few yards away." Pointing at a random sign

"yes Niketon it's a shoe store." Realization strikes as she looks down at his bare feet. Then she rushes him into the store and buys him

a pair of crocs

I didn't even realize it. I looked at her, and she smiled

"can't have you hurting your feet before we get to the police station." "Thanks," I said, continuing our walk.

So aside from forgetting, I was barefoot. Holy crap, my vision is back. I just realized I had returned to my younger body, so all that damage I took growing up was gone. My hands rubbed my eyes a few times to check. The damage done to my eyes from late-night reading is gone. Looking at my surroundings with more clarity looks like a new worldview. Hang on a second; I use my tongue to check my teeth, and my front teeth shaved down to my stupidity as a kid grinding his teeth were all gone. So My teeth are back to normal, and my eyes can see with more clarity. At least a little good came from this rejuvenation trip. However, all my muscles are gone, but that can be fixed with exercise. Wait a minute, I stopped in my tracks. Linda was looking at me to see if I had a question. My attention was disturbed again as I just remembered that I had braces growing up.

"Crap"

"What? is it something wrong?"

"No no Nothing" okay, pain in the ass braces aside, turning my attention back to the kind woman walking me to the police station. Remembering her name to be Linda balms, a 20-30 redhead gal from the city. Lived here her whole life and works for some big company whose name I'm not familiar with, Hayes inc. If I was in my original body, I'd be trying to get her number and ask her out. Still, she sounds taken and committed from our conversation, so no dice.

Yikes, that's not normal; I'm just realizing. This isn't what I should be thinking. My god, I gotta get out of this place. It wouldn't have happened anyway, maybe if I was in my original body and under different circumstances, but now it's not even possible. Anyway not important; she was going on about the city, how it's trying to get better, and how her company works in computers, phones, and other stuff. The CEO is apparently this very generous business lady who started with flip phones and then expanded the business across the globe. I couldn't tell if she was being funny or delusional because she spoke in a serious tone and didn't correct herself after a few minutes. The flip phone was developed in 1996 by a company called Motorola. How do I know this? I was raised in the time when the flip phones or handheld came out, then bam, iPhones.

Anyway, she asked me where I was from and how I got here. I told her I didn't know and that's why I'm going to the police. Still, I'm probably never going to see her again. Hence, I humored her telling her that I was on vacation with my family to Quito visiting family, and I somehow ended up here.

Her mood then changed into a less than subtle soothing and pitying voice. Our conversations continued about my life as much as I was comfortable letting her know. I'm not going to just let her know my whole situation; she'll think I'm crazy and pity me more, and that's not something I need. Worse she'll come to her own conclusion and try to help more. I wouldn't have a problem with it if it wasn't because this might interfere with my reuniting with my family. So to avoid a misunderstanding best to keep the whole truth to a minimum.

When I asked her about the recent situation around the world. She spoke about things I didn't understand. Like The current president being someone named Andrew Cosler instead of Biden and some characters whose names I don't know famous people, I guess. I was beginning to think that maybe this chick might be a little crazy, and I might have to make a run for it. I hope that the police station is not far now.

Which she bought but then she asked me something which freaked me out a bit

Saying she had never heard of Quito. Calm down it may be because she hasn't bothered with geography. But just now, I realized that She hasn't once mentioned the status of Covid or the recent events. She hasn't talked once about the pandemic in the last three years. I asked her what had happened to Covid.

"What Covid?"

"the coronavirus," I said, pointing at my mask

"the pandemic that happened all across the world" she looked confused

"it been going on the last three years."

"Adam there hasn't been any broadcast about a pandemic or a coronavirus," she said

I think something might be wrong. I probably should've asked this question earlier. I didn't because I didn't think It was relevant at the time. But I asked her.

"what year is it"

"its march 15, 3007."

...........Yep I'm fucked, aren't I ?I thought to Myself just as we turned up at the police station.

Line break

3 hours ago at Chicago in the secret base beneath the pentagon, the headquarters of the GDA. A gray-haired balding man named Cecil, director of the GDA, had just been debriefed of an event that occurred the night before.

"Say that again," Cecil said

"Yes sir last night our satellite picked up an unknown energy reading in a thunderstorm over midnight city it was only for a brief moment before it vanished sir. " Donald said

"why wasn't I told about this when it was happening." Cecil said

"because we didn't know what we were looking at sir, the anamoly in question popped on the radar for about .5 seconds, to be exact, before dissipating. We could only find it because our satellite captured deformation images in the Earth's magnetic field." Donald said

An image of a funnel appearing in Earth's magnetic field appeared on screen for a few seconds reaching down to Earth before returning to normal.

"it's a miracle we even found it sir." Donald said

"and apparently did your job for you" cecil said still looking at the loop of the funnel appearing and disappearing on screen.

"local residents have not reported any unusual acDarkwing in the are- " a staff member said

"Send a team out and inform Darkwing, so he doesn't get suspicious or in the way.

"darkwing has already been informed." Donald said

"good keep this in small circles and keep this out of supes ears. reminding you why this stays confidential," Cecil said

"Donald," Cecil turned to look at a lean man wearing sunglasses who he had known for years.

"yes, sir," Donald said

"find out what you can. you know how I like surprises," Cecil said

"you don't sir," Donald said in a knowing tone.

Turning to look back at the screen without a change in expression but the same look in his eyes every time he knew something was coming, whether it be good or bad.

"exactly." Cecil said
