The soft mattress tickled my back gently. It was a feeling I hadn't had ever since my second life started. The warmth of the room had made me complacent to a point where I had let my guard down completely. It might have been my tired and wounded body that didn't want to let go of the long lost relaxation. It was only when I felt someone touch my wounded side that I was jolted awake.
What came to my view, as I opened my eyes, was a small child with greenish orange eyes looking at me intently.
"Are you okay now? Does it still hurt?"
The child asked with utmost innocence in his voice. I tried to get up slowly but my side was still burning with pain. The child moved instantly to support my back as I sat with my back straight.
I was just going to tell him that I was alright when he said, "Your eyes are so strange. Why are they of different colours?"
The child sat with sparkling eyes as he waited for an answer.
"I don-"
"Ah, my name is Sirius Frye. What is your name?"
Don't you speak a bit too much?
I hurriedly moved my mouth so as not to lose in another bout of speaking, against this child.
"Mehr."
The child, or rather Sirius, tilted his head a bit just before speaking.
"Mehr…? Just Mehr? Why? Even your name is strange? What does it mean? What is your family name?"
His questions were now hurting me more than my wounds. I promptly clutched my side as I laid down on the bed again.
"Aah, are you still hurting? Should I call someone?"
Just please shut up, okay?
I wish I could say that. However, not only had he saved my life but he was also..just a child, as ironic as it might sound coming out of my 4 year old body.
I looked around the room after saying no to Sirius. The room was large. A bit too large considering it was for a child. The walls were decorated with paintings of Sirius and an older couple, who I presumed to be his parents. There were also all kinds of swords that hung on the wall making the room feel like it belonged to some great knight.
As I was looking around the room, Sirius hopped down from the bed as he waddled to one of the swords I was looking at.

He took the sword of the wall as he waddled back to me with it. The sword had a golden hilt embroidered with a red dragon that seemed to be falling to the ground. He hopped back on the bed as he handed me the sword.
“You also like swords?”
I took the sword that he held and I was quite surprised to find that the sword was fairly heavy. I slowly slid it out of its scabbard to find that the sword shone with the colour of blood. The hilt felt warm to touch and the falling dragon seemed to be moving. It was an unusual sword for sure. The blade’s sharpness felt to be cutting the air around it and it looked for a moment that the sword was lunging at me
“It’s a good sword.”
“Right? It’s my favourite. Everyone says that this was the first thing I held after I was born. It's my family heirloom and it once belonged to the Sword God. Anyway, are you hungry?”
Doesn’t your mind wander a lot, child?
“Where am I?” I tried to move on to the things I wanted to ask the most. How could I be in a forest, and in a moment, end up in this land where snow fell. Who was that strange man and what did he mean by me being the chosen one? There were many questions swirling in my mind but I decided to take it slowly. I had learned it with a very painful experience that haste is often man’s downfall.
“Oh, this is my room.”
Sirius replied with a heartfelt smile. He looked at me with a beaming face that I had started getting annoyed with.
“And where is this room? Or rather, in what city?”
“Hmm, you don’t know? It’s Baelor.”
Baelor… I think I have heard of it in the old merchant’s mansion. The memory seems hazy though. Well it's not like I truly cared about what people were talking about when I was trying just to survive. But why would that stranger send me here?
“Are you hungry, Mehr?”
Sirius asked again. I looked up at him while brooming these emerging thoughts aside for now. He was still sitting next to my legs as he fiddled with his fingers. It looked like he was hesitating to say something while he looked at me with his shiny eyes.
“Umm.. Chil- I mean, Sirius. Are you hungry?”
Sirius suddenly stopped his fiddling fingers as it looked like he was in shock. His eyes opened wide after hearing my words. He seemed like a little thief caught in an act. While he did seem cute, he also looked very stupid.
“So you are… Isn’t this your house? Why don’t you go and eat then?”
If I wasn’t in an unfamiliar environment amidst unfamiliar people, I would have probably laughed out loud seeing the expression this child made. Disbelief was painted in his eyes as his mouth hung open.
“Y-Y-You can do that? Wouldn’t that be disrespectful?”
“Why would it be disrespectful?”
“Y-You are my guest. And I can’t just leave my guest and go have food on my own. Father always says that actions such as these are very Unlordlike.”
Un-Lord-like….?
I laughed a little while hearing the words coming from his mouth. Were all children this innocent and stupid? Perhaps I, as well… On second thought, I don’t think so. I was never this stupid.
“This is your house, isn’t it. And a Lord should be able to do whatever he wan-”
Just as I was finishing these words, my stomach churned as my instincts started screaming. I wanted to get up and run away this instant, but I decided otherwise. The situation at hand didn’t seem life threatening. If someone this dangerous wanted to harm me, he would have done that long ago. And considering all the options, this was some sort of test.
“MEHR!”
Sirius moved to my side as he held me to support my back. I needed to entertain these assholes who were testing a little child like me. It was in these situations that I felt deprived of my original body. If only I had my body from my past life….
I slowly held my hand up to gesture to Sirius that I was okay. The person who had let his killing intent flare at me had decided to step down for some reason.
“It just started hurting suddenly. It's fine now.”
Sirius asked again as I noticed how caring this child was. He essentially found a dying boy in the streets, brought him home, gave him warmth and rest. And he was still worried about my well-being. I wanted to know more about him. Just as I was thinking about these things, I heard a knock on the door. I turned to look just before resting my eyes on the genial old man who stood there while bowing slightly.
“Young master, Lord Frye has called you and…”
He stood straight as he turned his head from Sirius to me. He tilted his head a little downward so that I could see his black eyes peeking through his glasses. He looked at me with the same genial expression that he wore this whole time.
“...Your guest.”
