Samantha POV.
Its been two years since I started living here in Greenleaf village with my husband.
I used to live with my parents and my older brother until two years ago when my husband, Ian proposed to me.
We have been seeing each other for more than a year. He is a great hunter, one of the few rank two warrior in the neighboring villages.
The highest warrior in each villages are rank three and some even has peak rank two.
Rank three warriors are so rare that there is no village with two rank three, or so I heard.
Here for example in Greenleaf only the Chief is at rank three, followed by four rank two, my husband included.
Life here is great, no lack of food and the neighbors are nice. Ian is an only child and his parents are gone from an accident on the ocean.
He's been living here alone until I came, so I can clearly see he really treasures me.
When there is no hunt, he chops firewood and stock them at our shed.
He also never forget to get water from the village well.
When I was pregnant we decide that I can name our baby if she's a girl, fate has I that our baby is a lovely boy so Ian named him Jhon.
I remember after our monthly checkup with the village doctor, we visit the shaman for her blessings.
It is believed that having blessed by the shaman helps prevent unexpected accidents such as miscarriage.
The shaman who saw me said that our baby will grow up strong and healthy, the chance to be a magician is high because he has a very strong soul for a baby.
I don't care much about the soul, but the chance to be a magician is a very nice surprise for us. Its rare for the old shaman to praise someone like that, specially when the topic is an unborn child.
To be a magician is every parents dream for their child, it means power and wealth. The problem is that its rare for a child to awaken his magic vien.

And even the few who manages to do so can only be rank 1 magician or the so called "apprentice" in the city. But of course being rank 1 is already good, those who manage to do so already took their family to the city.
That's why no magician live in this village or in all villages here.
Not sure if the shaman is one, they said she us not a magician for she have no mana, but she has powerful eyes, they can see what others can't.
She also has lots of knowledge from far away continent, or so I heard from my friends/fellow mothers.
Anyway after praising our baby saying he will grow up healthy and strong. The shaman then started the blessing ceremony. It's about praying to ancestors to give our child a healthy body and avoid him from harm.
To be honest after our son is born, I have doubt about the words of the village shaman.
Healthy and strong she said, our baby never gets sick so maybe healthy, but the word Smart and lazy better described our little Jhon.
Yes baby Jhon is very smart for his age, he only cries when there is something that needs to be done like when he pee or poo.
Sometimes I caught him staring at me, so I thought he is just starring blankly at space.
By when I moved he followed me, then when I moved left and right, he laugh. He laugh a lot more than he cried in our presence.
But when left alone he just starred dumbly at the roof, I tried it before, just pretending to be busy for the whole day , but secretly taking a peek on what our two months old baby doing.
Then I saw him either sleeping or just starring blankly. It even keeps happening until now when is already one year old.
While other babies keep rolling around the floor, he don't.
So I really thought the old shaman is getting senile.
Speaking of the old shaman, here she is now. Laughing in front of our little Jhon.
Old shaman: Time sure flies fast, its already a year huh.
Samantha: its more than a year already since we last visit you, I was only two months pregnant back then.
Old shaman: hehehe yes yes I forgot, age really is getting on me. Now little Jhon I have here three toys for you to choose from. But you can only pick one, consider it your birthday present.
Jhon look at the little things on the old shaman's hand.
First from the right is a black ring made if wood. Rather used to be wood since it looks like a coal now. Maybe the old shaman accidentally dropped that ring into some fire.
The middle one is another wooden ring. This one has a brown a normal wood color. Its just the ring has many rough edges like its not yet finished.
Or does it need to be thrown to some fire to make its edges smooth like the first one.
The one on the left is a necklace. It only has what look like single black claw or tooth. Its not even big maybe a tooth of a dog or cat but its the only thing on that string. This claw/tooth has a hole where the string passes thru.
Seeing this I only look and didn't make any sound, curious to what my smart, cute baby will choose.
Little Jhon's eyes keep changing between the shaman's face and her hand. His face looks serious, calm or dumb. No my baby definitely is not dumb.
Then Little Jhon look at me, I just nodded at him.
Slowly, my baby's hand rise and pick a ring. Its the black one so I look at his hand, good thing its not dirty.
Old Shaman: So you chose that path huh?
Samantha: Did you say something granny shaman?
Old shaman: Nothing my dear, the present has already been delivered so I have to go.
I told the shaman to be careful and rest early, she just laugh it off and go. What a happy old lady.
