THE READER GETS ISEKAI’D

THE READER GETS ISEKAI’D

Reader was an insignificant person, just like you, and was going home after living an insignificant day of its insignificant life.

It was an insignificant evening, and everything appeared to be the same as usual. The scenery was the same as every other day: trees swaying in the wind, some dogs humping a bitch below them, a young kid getting beaten up by some slightly older kids, unemployed young men sitting in some dirty corner smoking cigarettes, making crude jokes and swearing to each other, thinking they’re awesome.

There was also an insignificant truck haphazardly making its way towards the Reader, who had no chance to shriek like a little girl. The Reader died instantly.

THE END.

Or not?

When the Reader opened its eyes, there was a new world in front of it. Like the less sucking version of reality. The Reader could feel some sort of video-game-like vibes from it. I mean, the world looked great, which isn’t usually the case with reality, with the pollution and trash everywhere.

Currently the Reader was in the middle of a lush plain, with many beautiful trees and equally beautiful birds on top of it. Some shrubs had a few berries on it, and there were also beautiful mushrooms, with dots and rainbow colors all over them. They looked delightful. But it’s bad writing to do THE END again in just two paragraphs, so the Reader didn’t eat them.

The moment the Reader saw this new world it knew that it’s time had come. Any otaku worth their ‘yamete kudasai’ meme knew what this was…

This is the Isekai babe!!!

OP cheats, unimaginable strength, high status, beautiful men or women, all was going to be within its grasp soon!

However it was a given that the new fantasy world would be dangerous, with monsters and other villains prowling around. Thankfully the Reader had brought its sword with it.

When did it carry the sword with it you ask?

Well the sword wasn’t something significant, so it was not mentioned. But it surely had it.

So the Reader grabbed it’s trusty sword, and went off to an adventure. Where was it going? Nobody knows. All we know is that the Reader selected a direction and kept walking and walking.

After walking a few hours and suffering from stomachache after eating some wild berries, the Reader finally found someone whom he could ask some questions to.

In front of the Reader was a large, majestic tree. Beside the tree was something which looked like a road. As per the usual isekai logic, it should lead up to some city or village where the protagonist usually gets their first quest or companion.

This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.

Also, before we forget to mention, there was also a dying old man beneath the large, majestic tree.

The old man looked old. Like a rotten leaf. He wore some old style western medieval commoner clothing, and had a nice long beard. Not too long, just long enough to be considered a terrorist by some modern people.

There was also a large wound on his chest. Beside him was a small dagger, covered in blood. There was also a sack near him which seemed to be filled with stuff.

The old man saw the Reader and grew cautious. But the Reader was a good person, so it couldn’t help but ask.

“Are you going to die a pathetic death in the middle of nowhere, old man? Do you need some help? Are you okay?”

Hearing the care in the Reader’s voice made the old man’s heart feel warm. Or maybe it was just due to the wound, but who knows? The main thing was that the person asked if he was okay. How many people do that nowadays, huh?

“Come here young one…” the old man beckoned the Reader with difficulty.

The Reader walked up to the old man, but immediately scrunched it’s nose.

“You smell awful, old man!”

The old man glared at him viciously and shouted.

“Just shut up and let me get over with this scene!”

Soon he started explaining who he was and why he was going to die alone in the middle of nowhere.

So apparently yadda yadda yadda but now the old man was dying. The Reader couldn’t be bothered to read the whole quest story so it just skipped it in its mind.

“Young one, please take care of my grand-child.”

As he said that, the old man breathed his last.

The Reader felt emotionally overwhelmed by this, so it quickly took the sack and dagger and ransacked the old man’s body for valuables. After all, it was now supposed to be taking care of another person. You cannot do that if you’re poor yourself.

The Reader walked the ragged road and reached a small city in a few more hours.

“Pay the entry fee,” the gatekeeper said.

The Reader felt a bit annoyed that you had to pay just to enter a city. Thankfully it had the money it got by ransacking the old man’s dead body.

The Reader entered the city, which was apparently known as Tutorialville. After asking around for directions, it finally found the house it was looking for. It was an old shabby house. Time had surely left its many marks over it. And these lines were definitely not added to increase the word count.

“So my grandfather’s really dead?” the grandchild asked.

“Absolutely” the Reader nodded.

As the grandchild grieved, the Reader observed the person in question. This old man’s grandchild, who’s name was Kampa Nion, was an adventurer.

Kampa Nion was a person full of youth, and was quite attractive in person. Adding to that the slight roughness of an adventurer, the Reader found it a bit difficult to endure their charm, especially since Kampa Nion looked like its type.

It decided that it would surely ‘take care’ of this old man’s grandchild, as per the promise. Actually the Reader never made a promise to the old man since he died immediately, but who cares about the details?

These were dark and troubling times, and many young people chose to become an adventurer since it was easy to do so.

Speaking of which, the Reader suddenly remembered that it had yet to test out the sword it was carrying. It suddenly regretted not testing it out on the old man’s dead body. The old man was already dead, so surely he wouldn’t have minded, right?

“Thank you for burying grandpa. I’d like to visit his grave one day.” Kampa Nion said while regaining composure.

“No problem”

The Reader said with a straight face as it thought in its mind: Damn! I forgot to bury the old man. But that’s also helping nature in a way, right?

After a bit of a discussion, it was decided that Kampa Nion would help the Reader in becoming an adventurer. It was also permitted to keep the dagger with itself as a secondary weapon.

“Why don’t you stay here for a few days instead of staying in an inn?” Kampa Nion said. “Feel free to take anything in the house. Within reason, of course.”

The Reader agreed, and thus began its new life in this new world.
