This New World
It all began on a dark and stormy night, with the clouds pitch black and the rain practically hail. This weather was quite unusual in the land of Bulwark, where the worst storms would only be light grey and the rain would be light and misty. It was on this day that the hero, called Doctor Magus, was born.
A young aspiring doctor by the name of Alexander Smith was traveling to his office one day, when bolts of lighting from a pitch black cloud struck near Alexander and hail swirled around him like a mini tornado. While this was happening, unknown to Alexander a dark shadowy figure watched the scene unfold from the clouds above him. Almost as instantaneously as the storm started, it stopped, leaving a very afraid and confused doctor. Still wondering what had happened Alexander decided to go back to his apartment and stay there the rest of the day. After arriving at his apartment he collapsed on the sofa and fell into a deep sleep.
While asleep he drempt, he was walking down an ancient cobblestone stone road with seaweed covered pillars. When he reached the end of the road he saw a throne with an unrecognizable figure sitting on it. The figure spoke in a raspy voice saying, “Do you wish to protect the world you live in from the darkness within it?”
Alexander, not knowing what the figure was talking about, asked, “What are you talking about? What darkness is there in the land of Bulwark?”
The dark figure responded, “The land you live in was once ruled by three beings called Moderators. They spectate your world and occasionally cause chaos so that the balance of light and dark is not overtuned. However, less than a millenia ago, one of the Moderators known as Obscurus started to overturn the balance by creating beings of chaos called Grimm. These beings cannot be seen by the human eye. They went around feeding off of the dark emotions and souls of humans.
When the other two moderators found this out, they attempted to stop these creatures conquest, but Obscurus, who was more powerful than both of the other Moderators stopped their efforts. As a final resort, the two Moderators cursed Obscurus and forced him to live among the creatures of darkness, but as a result of doing this act the two remaining Moderators were made nearly powerless. That is where you, Alexander Smith, come into play.”
Getting off of the throne and stepping out of the shadows, the figure came into view and appeared to be a old man who could have either been 60 or 600. The old man’s face was wrinkled and was very aged, but his eyes shone with wisdom and power. Walking towards Alexander, the old man said, “My name is Sage and I am a Moderator. Less than 10 years ago the second Moderator faded but left me his power. Even though I have more power than before it is still not enough to completely stop Obscuris. The offer I make to you is my power in return for your promise to stop Obscuris. Do you accept it?”
Alexander, not knowing whether to accept or not, said, “May I have some time to think on this?”
Sage responded, “I will give you one day to respond, but I have a warning for you: Now that I have interacted with you and you have seen me, you will now be able to see the Grimm as well as the other creatures Obscuris has created. They will come after you, so be prepared. I give you the best of luck and look forward to you answer.” Then, a wave a dizziness came over Alexander and he woke up finding himself on his sofa. Recalling his discussion with Sage he went and looked outside to see if he could now see the Grimm. Not seeing anything, he pushed the talk with Sage out of his mind, thinking it was just a normal dream. Alexander then left his apartment and biked to his office. While saying hello to the neighbors on the way out, he thought he saw a shadowy figure in the yard of his apartment.
Later that evening after leaving for his apartment from his office, Alexander found himself thinking about his discussion with the elderly person called Sage in the dream. While thinking, he heard the sound of metal screeching, looked behind him, and what he saw was just what he feared. A creature of shadow, or Grimm as Sage had called it, was chewing on an abandoned car. The creature gave Alexander a stare as cold as the shadows it was made of, then got up and started to slowly walk towards him. Alexander slowly got off his bike and started to walk backwards. The creature then suddenly started to run towards Alexander, and Alexander, not wanting to become shadow-food, bolted towards the warehouse that was behind him and just barely managed to make it inside and lock the door before the Grimm reached the doorway. Shaking from fear, Alexander collapsed on the ground and doing the wise thing, he fainted.
Looking down the cobblestone road once again Alexander ran down it to meet Sage and when he came to the throne he found that two figures were talking in a language he did not know. One he could tell as Sage but the other was a beign of shadows and darkness that made Alexander shiver. Sage noticing Alexander waved his hand in the air and the shadowy figure disappeared. Alexander than said “Who was that?”. Sage responded “That was Obscuris. He was just threatening to take your life if I did not give him his statues a Moderator back, but you need not worry as long as you are here you are safe from Obscurius and his creatures”. Then Sage said “I suspect you have your answer to my question if you are here.”
Alexander responded, “Yes, I have my answer, and my answer is 'Yes.’ After seeing the Grimm and what they can do, I want the power to stop them and to stop Obscurus.” Alexander was then engulfed in a wave of blue flames and Sage said, “Then as Moderator of this world, I bestoy the God-like power I possess to Alexander Sunder Smith, and name you Doctor Magus, for you are now the one who will use magic to protect the world from darkness.” After saying this, Alexander found himself wearing a cloak and holding a book with magic circles and runes engraved in it. Sage then said, “Now, go and rid this world of Obscurus”. Alexander woke up sweating and lying on the ground inside the warehouse, but then noticed he was indeed wearing the cloak and holding the book engraved with magic circles. Standing up he opened the book and suddenly he felt a great Power come into him. Raising his left hand he suddenly felt words unknown to him come into his head and come out of his mouth, then his hand glowed blue and a blast of magic destroyed to wall in front of him. Looking outside to see if anyone had seen what he had done he saw that the Grimm had moved and was standing on the shoulders of a young boy. Raising his right hand, once again words unknown to him flew out of his mouth and his hand glowed black this time and black magic obliterated the Grimm to nothing. Looking up in the sky he saw a large Grimm with wings and pointed his hand towards it and black magic flew from it and eradicated it instantly. Looking at the cover of the book he saw it read Taboo Index. Opening the book he read the first page that read: Taboo Index, guide to the multiverse, and manuel for Moderators. Skimming through the book he saw a odd page that was completely black. The page contained names that Alexander(now called Doctor Magus) did not know until he reached the last three names which were Sage, Obscurus, and Doctor Magus. Hearing a sound Alexander closed the book, looked behind him and prepared to raise his hand. Looking into the dark he saw a child with big blue eyes staring at him. Assuming the child had seen everything that had happened, he walked over to him. As Alexander drew near the child bolted. Alexander chased after him amazed at the speed of the child. Soon catching up to him he grabbed the child’s arm and saw the child was smiling. Then the child said “I see we finally meet Doctor Magus”. Realizing who the child was Alexander started to shake with fear and whispered “Obscurus”. The child now revealed as Obscurus said “I have been waiting for you and have a proposition for you. Pledge you loyalty to me and you can be my accompance in ruling the world or you can oppose me and I will kill you”. Alexander still shaking, responded “I was sent here by Sage to battle you and restore the peace of this world. I will not submit to the likes of monsters like you”. then Obscurus said“If i'm a monster what are you? A half breed? We are the same you and I. Half human, half God. Together not even Sage could stop us, but if you truly with for a fight I will give you one but you will not like the out come”. Suddenly lightning blew out from his hand and shot Alexander hurling into a dumpster. Ears ringing and body aching Alexander stood up and raised his hand, this time a white beam of light flew out of his palm and headed straight for Obscurus. Obscurus threw his hands in the air and the ray of light collided with a wall of black. Then Obscurus once again pointed his hand towards Alexander and this time Alexander was lifted off the ground and thrown into a brick wall which collapsed on top of him as he hit it. Struggling to get out of the rubble Alexander threw his hand up and the bricks vanished. Hearing laughter Alexander look over and saw Obscurus laughing at Alexander. Confused alexander asked “What’s so funny?”. Obscurus replied “Seeing you pathetic attempts has brought me my first laugh in centuries. I believe it is evident of who will win this fight. So why don’t you just give up and join me any more rebellious acts and I will show you what true power is”. Alexander struggling to stand, suddenly bolted upright and thinking of all he had suffered over the last two days because of this demon was suddenly filled with rage and felt a enormous surge of power within him. Dropping the Taboo Index he raised both of arms and pointed them at Obscurus. The ground around Obscurus exploded and hands made of stone grabbed him and held him. Walking over to Obscurus, Alexander said “I’m not as weak and helpless as you think Obscurus”. Walking over to the Taboo Index Alexander flipped to a page he had bookmarked and started to read from it. “I Doctor Magus, In all my power, form a contract with the eternal tree of light and bind Obscurus to the-”. Abruptly the place where Obscurus was literally became hell. The ground became a pit of fire and a legion of dark warriors came forth and at it lead was Obscurus, riding on a skeleton horse and wearing pitch black armor which radiated fear. Looking at Alexander, Obscurus said “Little boy you do not understand the meaning of power. Do not ramble about being being big and strong when everything about you is little”. Then Obscurus screamed a scream that made even the cries of the dead sound like angels voices and then he charged towards Alexander. As Obscurus neared, Alexander put his hands together and drew a circle in the air and out of the circle came a giant Dragon the color of snow. The dragon beat it wings and blew the legion of darkness back into the pit they had come from and from it throat came a blaze of flame that instead of red was white and froze whatever it touched including the pit of flames. Obscurus who looked rather annoyed said “Listen here little boy my patience is tiring so will you accept my offer or will I have to burn into nothingness”. “As long as I have breathe in my lungs I will fight you!” Alexander replied, and once again Alexander and Obscurus continued to fight. As the fight drew on Alexander started to grow weary and he could feel his power begin to diminish. Reaching out to Obscurus power he sensed that his power was fading as well. Knowing the battle was coming to an end Obscurus started use less and less magic and more and more physical attacks. Soon the pair stopped using magic completely and began to use fists, kicks, jabs, and whatever else they could use to inflict damage. Alexander fell to the ground grunting heavily from a heavy punch to the gut, while Obscurus was knocked onto his back from a back kick. Both of them mentally and physically exhausted as they sat there on their back conserving energy. Alexander looking around saw that there was no man, woman, or child in sight. In fact there was no building, mountain, or anything in sight. Just white and black rock as far the eye could see. Seeing a glimpse of color, Alexander looked and saw a brown book! It was the Taboo Index! That was what he needed to stop Obscurus. It was so simple all he had to do was recite the binding spell, but how would he get to the book and recite the spell without letting Obscurus see him. That was the challenge. Then he thought of a idea, it would be risky but it was his only shot. Alexander stood up and walked over to Obscurus and looked him straight in the eyes and said with all the determination he had “I accept your offer. I cannot fight anymore. I am out of magic and my body will not withstand anymore”. “About time you came to your bloody senses boy. We will have to wait for both of our powers to re-energize and then then we can blast that bloody Sage right off his throne” replied Obscurus with a giant grin on his face and a mad gleam in his eyes. Getting up he went and embraced Alexander tightly and said “If you betray me you death will be much more painful than that old mans, I can promise you that”. Then Alexander knowing he would have you act fast rushed over to the resting place of the Taboo Index and grabbed the Taboo Index and put it under his ripped shirt and jacket in order to conceal it. Then he walked back over to Obscurus attempting to look confused. Obscurus thinking nothing of the incident put his hands flat together and cried out “Teleport Gate open. Coordinates Heaven's Throne!” Suddenly engulfed in light Alexander when able to see again found himself on the ancient cobble path once more and standing next to him was Obscurus. Obscurus then started to walk down the path and sooner than later they reached the throne, on which Sage sat looking more weak and helpless than he had before. Obscurus teething with what seemed to be rage flew past Alexander and buried a black dagger deep in Sage’s gut. “Sage!” screamed Alexander practically feeling the dagger as if it was in his own skin. Obscurus started to laugh. “When you banished me that may have been the best choice you had ever made because if you had not I would not get to enjoy this so much” He said laughing and grinning. Obscurus then stabbed another dagger into Sages chest. Sage then began to cough up dark red blood. Knowing he did not have much time left Alexander oppended the Taboo Index and whispered the spell as quietly as he could “I Doctor Magus, In all my power, form a contract with the eternal tree of light and bind Obscurus to the Abyss of darkness-” WHAT ARE YOU DOING” yelled Obscurus who had heard world from Alexander mouth. “How dare you betray me!” Alexander then started to yell the rest of the constant “TO WHERE HE WILL NEVER RETURN AND WILL SPEND THE REST OF HIS DAYS IN DESPAIR AND DEATH!” Out of breath and mentally exhausted Alexander looked at Obscurus waiting for the binding to occur. When nothing happened Alexander look ready to faint, But then in the middle of Obscurus chest a bright light shone, like a small white gemstone. Then the light spread to all of his chest and continued to spread to the rest of his body. Obscurus in shock of what was happening stood there completely stunned as his bof=dy was consumed by the light. Then the light reached to his face and he then started to scream “You traiter! You coward! I swear I will return and I will make you life endless cycle of death and-” Then Obscurus fell silent as the light consumed his head and soon there was nothing left of him. Waiting and expecting Obscurus to come back and kill him. Realizing that Obscurus ws truly gone, Alexander rushed to Sage. The old man was bleeding badly and Alexander instantly knew this was the end of his life. Sage started to speak but his words were incomprehensible. Then after a little bit Sage then began to speak in a very gentle yet powerful voice despite his physical state. Sage said “You are now the only Moderator left and this world is now yours to create. Be wise with your choices because one bad choice will lead you world in chaos. Do not make the same mistakes we did but learn from them and evolve”. Sage’s eyes started to go dim and the remaining power inside him began to windle down like a wick burning in a candle. Even though he did not know the old man very well he still started to cry. Alexander then felt the last of Sages power drain away and his eyes went dark. Alexander closed Sage’s eyes and put the old man on his throne where he would forever reign in the land of dreams. Alexander then stood up and walked back down the cobblestone path and awoke in a world that was bright white. “This world could use a little redecoration” He thought with a grin upon his cheek.

His world was perfect. It was identical to the world before, without the Grimm of course. This is world was his choice because it was the perfect beautiful world he was born into and it was the world many other would be born into now and for millenia to come. Doctor Magus looked down upon his world seeing children run in the grass, adults chat at cafes, animals roam the savanna, and the sea crash against the shore and thought “There is nothing better than this”.
