The car ride home was silent. Not a word from me, my aunt, or Laura. I was fine with that. I need this time to think. To come up with a plan. This was an unprecedented situation. I knew I wasn’t just seeing things, this was real, I had officially discovered the supernatural. I was going down in history. But first I have to find my brother and that strange woman. Even though I was worried about him, I was also excited. I would be the first person to ever document this first hand (and hopefully live).
Aunt Catherine dropped me off at the house with Laura. Laura’s parents were going to be at the hospital, and since my Aunt was going to go help look for Grayson, everyone had agreed that it would be best that she stay with me at the house. They probably thought she would keep me out of trouble, but she was in on it! It always surprised me how easy it was to trick grown-ups.
Unfortunately ideas for where to start were… admittedly limited. An unprecedented situation meant no solutions existed outside of the theoretical. And in this case the theoretical was either fiction or the realm of conspiracy theories. So fiction and fiction, at least most of the time with the latter. There was only one person I knew who could be called an expert on this kind of thing. Leigh Leblanc.
Well okay, I didn’t technically know them. They had responded to my comments a couple of times but, it’s not like they knew who I was. I’d already planned on sending the footage from today’s expedition to them, so I might as well get their advice at the same time. The woman had called herself a “Seraph,” so I wouldn’t be surprised if she was like the beings described in the Seraphic Bible.

I had to get the video off my brother’s phone, which thankfully wasn’t on him when he disappeared. He also thankfully didn’t have a passcode. I’m sure he’ll forgive me for this one. Before I composed the email to Leblanc I showed the video to Laura. She had apparently seen similar creatures on the way here, so we couldn’t be both crazy!
Of course I couldn’t just sit idly while I wait for Leigh Leblanc to respond. If I was going to figure out where Grayson disappeared to, I would need more information. Let’s look at the facts of the situation for a second. We found the demons at the abandoned church, the woman only appeared after that happened. It seemed like that building was the source of this disturbance. The only hole in the theory was Laura’s brother, who was obviously at home before then, but we didn’t know for sure when he was possessed, or how that worked.
For now the church was our only lead, so that’s where we headed. This time however, the building wasn’t empty. There were two figures, a pale, black-haired woman with matching black eyes who was slightly under six feet, and a girl beside her who was about the height of my brother and…
And had almost the exact same face as him. The only differences were her silver hair and eyes, as well as some slightly more feminine features.
“Kish, what’s going on?” Laura said
I ignore her and stare straight at the two of them. “I don’t have any interest in your BS spiel.” I said. “I only want to know two things. One, where is my brother? Two, what the hell is going on?”
“My child, we don’t have to start this on the wrong foot.” The black-haired woman said. “We are both looking for the same thing.”
“Huh? Who are you?”
A smile appeared on her face. “My name is Sabreal.”
