Chapter 1

=========

Carter slowly opened his eye and began to scan around his surrounding. It was utter chaos; hundreds upon thousands of men and weird demonic figures fought against each other in a flurry of sword slashes and splattering blood.

Although it was easy to discern who was a who was a human or a demon, everyone fought for themselves. Corpses continue to pile on top of each other until it became a small hill of bloodied bodies.

"W-what the hell?!" Carter exclaimed as he tried his best to dodge all the blades that were coming towards him.

Carter had always been fascinated with how medieval soldiers fought each other. Unlike the modern era where most fights use guerrilla tactics and the combatants are kilometers apart from each other, he preferred huge armies clashing face to face with swords and shields.

However, he only liked looking at them; not joining in one personally.

Carter tried his best to dodge all of the blades that came his way, but being a person who doesn't exercise that much, he quickly ran out of stamina.

After a second of catching his breath, he saw the tip of a spear thrusting towards him.

It was at this moment that everything around him began to slow down drastically.

[Is this how I'm going to die?] Carter asked himself as the spearhead ever so slowly came closer to his eye.

Carter was just an ordinary teen from Earth who liked watching anime and playing video games. He has always maintained the "good guy" impression and has never been in a fight against someone else. Yet, he was randomly transported to a battlefield within a foreign land that he had never been before.

Then, something hit him.

[Isn't this similar to an anime plotline?]

Transported into a new fantasy-like world where technology is at its infancy stage at best. In a land where demonic figures exist and battles between thousands of soldiers seemed to be the norm; this was something he had always dreamed of happening.

Realizing the adventures that awaited him, a newfound strength suddenly surged through his body as the time around him began to speed up.

[This is my story and I don't want to die yet. I don't want to die. I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!!]

Carter closed his eyes and used every ounce of his remaining energy to thrust his hand towards the spearhead to block it, but as the speartip contacted his hand, the piercing pain that Carter prepared himself to endure never came.

Instead, it felt soft, almost like a pillow. However, unlike a pillow, it was really elastic like gelatin. Carter continued to squeeze the object, confused on why the spearhead grew and became elastic. However, it didn't take long before he realized what was going on.

"What the heck are you doing?!" a familiar feminine voice shrieked.

Carter quickly opened his eyes, but before he could fully focus on what was happening, a blurry hand appeared and slapped him across the face.

"What the f- OW!!" Carter cried out as the force of the slap caused his head to sink into the pillow he was laying on.

"I came here to give you some food because you're sick and this is how you thank me?" the girl complained as she quickly placed the partially spilled porridge on the desk beside Carter's bed.

"I'm sorry, alright? I was just having a bad dream." Carter apologized as he rubbed his cheeks, "You really didn't hold back at all, even though you knew I was sick."

Once he got his bearings back, he looked at the woman who just slapped him.

She has long black hair that reached down to her waist and her face consisting of black almond-shaped eyes and pink round lips gave off a matured beauty aura.

Although her tacky oversized sweater she's wearing is hiding her most of her body, Carter knew that her proportions are high-tiered with an ample bottom, thin waist, and well-endowed breasts, she could make many men fall for her by just being looked at.

As for why Carter knew all of this private information, it's because he is...

"Even though I'm your older sister, this still counts as sexual harassment." she told Carter.

"I already apologized and I almost died thanks to that slap." Carter mumbled, "We should be even now."

Carter's sister didn't respond and began to leave his room after wiping off the spilled porridge on her hands on the tacky sweater.

"Wait, Sylvia." Carter called out just as his sister was about to exit, "Thanks for taking care of me."

"Yeah," Sylvia replied nonchalantly without looking back and left the room.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

With both of their parents work overseas and Sylvia being a busy university student and a part-timer, Carter was the one who cooked and did the chores in the house.

That's why when he got sick, he thought that he was though only one that could care for him at the moment.

However, despite being super busy, Sylvia still took the time to take care of him, even to the point where she skipped work during the initial days where the fever took place.

Even though her personality is the kind that can be irritating sometimes and she could get physical over the smallest of things, Carter is still thankful to have a sister like her.

After eating the porridge that was sitting on the counter, he got a thermometer to check out his temperature.

[Hmm, not bad.] Carter thought as he looked at the temperature, [If this keeps up, I should be all healed up for the upcoming exam tomorrow.]

Carter's high school is segmented into two semesters and had exams at the end of each semester. Right now, the first semester is about to end and his chemistry exam, the course that he needed to pass the most, starts on January 29.

[Might as well listen to music before I sleep again.] Carter thought as he turned on his phone.

After swiping into the music app, he plugged in his headphones and prepared to lay back and relax. However, just before laying back down, something caught his attention.

01/29

"What...?" Carter whispered as he stared at the numbers, "That's not right, shouldn't it be the twenty-eighth today?"

Soon, cold sweat began to pour from his back as he checked the calendar on his phone; and sure enough, the twenty-ninth was highlighted.

"Sylvia!" Carter shouted in panic.

"What?!" Sylvia called back.

"What's today's date?!"

"Hmm? It should be the January the twenty-ninth, why do you ask?!"

"..."

Carter soon began to sweat profusely as he realized that he is potentially missing out on the exam right now. But then, he remembered something.

[Time... what's the time?!]

He swung his head towards the alarm clock on the desk. However, he swung too quickly and began to feel light headed.

It took a while before the urge to puke began to disappear, but once it did, a look of delight appeared on his face.

[It's only 12:32. If I were to run as fast as I can to the bus station, the bus should be able to arrive at the school just before the exams start at 1:30.]

Knowing that he had no time to lose, Carter quickly changed into his school uniform.

"What's up with you? First, you start yelling and then not-" Sylvia, wearing nothing but a white button-down shirt and black blazer, said as she inspected what was going on.

"I have to go to school." Carter urgently told her as he stripped himself, not caring that his sister is watching him.

"No, you can't. You've only started getting better today. What are we going to do if it get's worse? I don't think my manager would tolerate me missing out any more of my work." Sylvia tried to persuade him.

"I have an exam today, I can't miss it." Carter said in a resolute voice as he put on his pants.

"So what? It's only an exam. In your condition, the chances of actually passing are pretty low."

"It's better than having no chances at all. I need to pass this exam to enter the university that I want to be in."

Sylvia didn't say anything after that as she knew nothing of what she said would persuade her little brother to stay home.

"Alright, get your clothes on. I'm driving you to school." Sylvia sighed.

"Wait, if you do that, you'll be late for your work. Didn't you say your manager isn't happy about you missing out any more work?" Carter asked.

"It doesn't matter. You're a bit more important than a shift. I'm pretty sure my manager would understand." Sylvia explained.

"No, you go to your work. The bus station isn't too far away from here."

Sylvia walked towards Carter and felt his forehead.

"You still seem pretty hot." Sylvia stated, "Are you sure you can make it?"

"I survived your slap, didn't I? I'm sure I can walk to the bus just fine." Carter sarcastically replied as he made sure he looked as tidy as possible.

"Alright, alright. I get it." Sylvia grinned as she patted Carter on the shoulder, "Just promise me to come home as soon as the exam is over. The last thing I want to hear about is some random student blacking out on a street or something."

"Yeah, sure. I promise." Carter casually stated as he made his way out, "The exam should be done by lunch so I'll be back then."

"Okay, just make sure you get plenty of rest after you get back."

"Mhmm." Carter acknowledged as he put on his jacket and boots.

After walking out the door, he saw that it was snowing outside. Shrugging it, he just continued to walk out onto the sidewalk.

After a series of blocks, he finally reached the bus station around fifteen minutes later. There were other people there too, presumably, students from the same high school Carter attended due to their uniforms.

Carter didn't really care as he rarely socialized with other people other than his friends in school.

After standing there, waiting for the bus and occasionally eavesdropping on some conversations, he finally saw the bus coming towards around three blocks away.

Waiting for it to stop by, Carter looked at the ground and began to think.

He was an average guy with average looks compared to his sister. His hair is black and always unkempt. He has large, noticeable eyebags from always staying up for homework or gaming.

As for his life, it could also be considered average. Other than being slightly smarter than the average person, he rarely socializes outside his small circle of friends and barely talks at all.

He also has a crush on a girl he had met during freshman years. Although he knew that she is way out of his league, admiring a beautiful flower from afar shouldn't be considered bad, right? As long as it doesn't revert to stalking.

Thinking about his life, he failed to notice something; and that was that the ground appeared to be moving closer and closer.

It was only after he could hear muffled screaming in the background when he finally snapped out off it and began to realize what was happening.

He is falling down onto the road and despite trying his best to stop himself, his limbs wouldn't listen at all.

Realizing that he couldn't stop falling, he just hoped that there weren't any vehicles coming this way.

However, it didn't turn out the way he wanted to.

In the corner of his eyes, he saw light quickly approaching from the light. Then, after that, a car horn blasted right beside him, causing Carter to be light-headed.

A car that was going faster than the speed tried its best to stop, but due to the fresh snow making the ground even more slippery than it already as, it couldn't stop fast enough.

Realizing that he was going to die, only one thing popped into his head.

[I'm sorry sis, looks like I couldn't keep the promise after all.]
