Chapter 1 - Remembrance

In a small room, a youth sat upon an old chair, Diego was focused on writing. From the smallest details to the very important ones. He wrote them all.

"Ah... this is the problem of being stupid! It's so difficult doing mental tasks!" Diego screamed, clutching his ears as he intensely rubbed his hair.

After a long time, and finally ending his leg swinging streak.

He finally remembered the one he was trying to find.

"Right... his name was Alfred."

Diego wrote his name in the Potential Ally List he was the last one and Diego was finally freed from his torture.

"Now..." Looking at the white-bear furry suit, Diego was hit by gratefulness. Sidetracked, Diego fondly spoke, "That lunatic... can't believe his prank saved me."

Appraising the suit, Diego found the clothing was thick. "Judging by the thickness and the leather jacket I was wearing at that time. No wonder why I escaped only just a teeth mark!"

Going to a fresh page on his notebook, Diego drawn a clock.

Looking down at the paper with a crudely clock drawn on it, Diego counted and he affirmed how many hours he has left to prepare.

"I have thirteen hours to prepare. This is more than enough! Lucky!"

Diego tucked his password-locked iPhone as he has no more use for it. Because, he forgotten the password.

Diego stretched his body and went to prepare. "No more distractions!" As he went off.

Grabbing an emptied sport bag, Diego headed off to the nearest supermarket.

The clerk was overwhelmed by mountain of cans.

"Are you trying to save son?" The clerk asked while scanning the cans.

"Nope!" Diego casually answered.

"What is it for then?"

"For the apocalypse man! I'm gonna tell you old man! The apocalypse is coming! Better sure to stack up on food fast and call your family and friends!" Diego shouted loudly as he can, making sure everyone could hear him.

The clerk was surprised and his first thought was "A lunatic?" But strangely, the clerk believed the young fellow.

Grabbing the tall middle-age man's shoulder, Diego spoke seriously, "You're a tall man with a good physique, you will definitely survive. I just pray for your close ones to also survive. So good luck man!"

With four plastic bags full of large water bottles and canned foods, he departed.

Diego's sport bag reflected on the clerk's eyes. "This..." a conflicted feeling rose up to him, believe it or not?

With a final push by his guts instinct. The clerk went to his manager and asked for an early out. His manager looked at him strangely, "Are you really gonna believe that?" Toned filled with smug.

"Yeah..." the clerk said while hiding his embarrassment.

"Jack, you watch too much movies! But oh well, since you are a good worker so far. I'll permit this. If that lunatic's words were to be real, you're a lucky man Jack! But of course, that's unlikely." His kind manager went back to work and Jack the Clerk left early for the first time.

Returning back to his apartment, Diego dropped the heavy plastic bags on the floor. An usual smile was plastered on his face. On his way, he met a valueable friend.

"Can't believe I met Teacher Rina! I just hope she will accept the invitation!"

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Diego's gorgeous and tall teacher is now alive. When the apocalypse in its five months, he almost died if not for Teacher Rina. The two and along with others formed a group. Unfortunately, he couldn't return the favor. When Rina's husband sacrifice was too much for her to bear so she joined him. Again saving his life. Filling him full of guilt and regret.

"Uncle Jason, I won't let you sacrifice yourself this time! Teacher Rina! I'll be repaying your kindness in full!" Diego swored internally.

While doing a closed fist pose, a voice brought Diego back to reality. "The fuck you is doing? Gone full weeb, dipshit?"

A familiar color of hair. Blonde.

A familiar set of sharp, blue eyes.

A laughable height of 165cm.

A face full of make up.

"Zane!" Diego shouted as he sprinted passed the welcome pit's door. "Fuck!!! This is gross!" Zane was now choking under Diego's warm hug. "You gone crazy! Why you killing me!"

Diego released Zane and with an apologetic smile, Diego said. "I'm... sorry about that." As Zane looked at him disdainfully.

Zane spotting the plastic bags behind Diego, he asked. "What's with those?" Turning his head around, Diego said. "Bags full of canned goods."

Now eyeing Diego strangely, Zane one more time asked. "Why?"

Diego grinned. Zane is a person with mental deficiency like me and believes Santa is real like a child. Anything I say, he always believe it, he acts like he doesn't but I know! I just happen to be in need of more hands!

"I gained a premonition from God." As Diego said this, he saw Zane's left ear twitch. "The dream I saw was clear as day and what I saw was a catastrophe."

Zane closed in to hear more clearly and Diego continued. "Smoke in the sky, cars and alike steering away from the roads and crashing. People being caught and buildings alike. Chaos was everywhere. But the most terrifying part was... people turning into zombies."

At this point, Zane's eyes was wide opened. He excitedly said. "Zombies!? Hecking Yeah!!!" Zane posed in celebration as Diego stand there in shock. "The fuck? This lunatic... oh right... well there's go my plan to scare my little best friend."

Plan B Commence!

"The zombies can sprint." With one sentence, Zane's face turned white as a paper.

"The zombies can regenerate like Picolo." Zane's stomach churned like paper being shriveled.

"The zombies can tank bullets." Now paler than paper, Diego looked at the pose-stricken Zane. Hahaha! He laughed internally.

"And lastly, the zombies can evolve." With a Thud! Zane collapsed, shivering in fear. "We're... screwed...!!!" Diego evilly smiled while looking down at Zane.

Zane not seeing him anymore, Diego watches him prostrate and pray. Hearing the clasping sound, Diego hears his prayers.

"Oh God Buddha! Why it has to be the worst kinds of zombies! We can't survive! Why! Buddha! Why! Buddha! I pray everyday to give you faith power so you can grant my wishes! Why!"

Watching Zane shaking and crying, Diego now felt bad. "Right... lunatic has a fragile heart. I missed teasing him that I forgot to hold back." Crouching down, Diego held Zane's slim body and said. "There, there, it's okay. I'm here. I'm not gonna let you die okay? We're not going to die. In fact, we're going to be overpowered like a protagonist. You wanted to be a protagonist right? This is a chance now."

"But... how...? We... humans..." Zane's snot touched Diego's clothes as he was patted gently.

Diego, looked at his fragile little best friend. "In the five days of the apocalypse. We'll gain a skill. You do know what skills are right?"

"Y-Yeah..."

"I'll gain a skill related to my eyes." Zane watched Diego points his eye and he continues. "You'll also be getting a skill. I don't know what is it though. My dream wasn't long enough to let me know."

Diego lied as he naturally breathes. He didn't know what Zane's skill was, because, he killed Zane at the very beginning of the apocalypse.

"So don't worry okay?" Diego tighten his embrace on Zane as he smiled towards him.

Zane now feeling better, Diego lightly pushed him and stood up. "Zane, help me prepare for the apocalypse."

Wiping his tears and snot, Zane responded with a happy, "Yes!"

The two then non-stopped prepared. Taking a break between there and there while most importantly having fun. Diego teasing Zane and Zane verbally abusing Diego. Like how it was before, both merrily laughed at their own stupidity.

Placing the last weapon on the table, and looking at his empty wallet. Diego felt worried. "Hopefully, nothing is changed. Otherwise, the hard-earned money I just spent is gone. My plans will come down crushing again. That grass hopping sonuvabitch, ruined my plan... and as well send me back to here... Happy by it but, I hate my plans being ruined. Hopefully... no, such a horrible thought." Diego eyed Zane.

"Is it better for the apocalypse to not just happen? I don't want lunatic... to experience that kind of pain."

Diego clasped his hand, he never believed in God. But now he does, the first time he woke up here, he wanted answers. Why? And why him? He was not intelligent, athletic, special, heck even if he turns into an infected, he will just be a normal infected. He was normal with IQ lower than average. His answers remained unanswered.

"God... I don't know why is this happening and why did you send me back here. From illogical powers to illogical beings. What is going on? Is this really the judgement day? A sort of change? To eradicate human existence? Because we plagued mother earth with our machines? And if so, why return me? When you know a human being far more than us. I have many answers but I'll leave them for now. Because all I want right now is the apocalypse will never ever gonna happen. Please God, our lord and savior... Amen."

For the first time ever, Diego prayed.
