The Zoo Hypothesis

In a quiet jungle far from intelligent minds, lived two chimpanzees, Isaac and Arthur. Isaac was the most curious of the pair, always staring up into the sky, wondering what layout there away from his small jungle. Arthur was more of a know it all and spent his days swinging from tree-to-tree, trying to keep himself occupied. You could tell the difference between Isaac and Arthur as Isaac was much smaller and less worn down wiles Arthur was much Larger, almost a brute, but still had a kind demeanor with roughness around the ages that gave off an aura of charm.

One day in the jungle, late into the afternoon, Arthur caught Isaac staring up into the sky again. “Evening Isaac,”

Arthur said as he climbed up Isaac’s tree to join him. “Evening Arthur, did you see that strange bird today,”

Isaac replied and pointed at the sky. Arthur shook his head as he made it to the top and joined him on an adjacent branch. “No, what was strange about it,”

Arthur questioned as he pulled a banana from the tree. Isaac started twiddling his thumbs nervously.

“well, it didn’t look quite right.”

Arthur raised an eyebrow as he peeled his banana. Isaac continued, “it looked unnatural, it didn’t flap its wings once, and it was stiff almost.”

Arthur finished peeling his banana and shrugged, “some birds can glide for days without flapping their wings. I wouldn’t worry too much about it,”

he said, offering him the banana he just peeled. Isaac declined, still thinking of the strange bird. “It just gave off a strange vibe like someone was looking down from it.”

Arthur chuckled, saying, “Now you’re paranoid.”

Isaac sat up to talk to Arthur directly, “but what if I’m not? What if something is watching us, some higher species that’s monitoring is development.”

Arthur shook his head, “come on now, like what dolphins? I can think of anything smarter than them, and they don’t have the thumbs to make anything like a fake bird,”

he said, dismissing the idea. “Ok, probably not dolphins.”

Isaac admitted continuing with “what if it’s not from the jungle, or not even from this world.”

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

Arthur spat out his banana and replied, “like what if there were some higher species we would have seen evidence by now unless they’re so advanced we can’t, and if that’s the case, what’s the point in worrying it’s already out of our hands.”

He said as he laid back on the tree. Isaac scratched his chin, “but what’s to stop a species from becoming that clever,”

he claimed. Arthur started waving his index finger. “Remember Phil, when lighting hit his tree, and he started mucking about with fire.”

Isaac shrugged, replying, “Yeah, he burnt his hand.”

Arthur pointed back at him “that’s why the smarter you get, the more likely you are to find things that burn you; we can only assume it keeps getting worse. The higher you climb to bigger the fall,”

he said. Isaac nodded, “but that still doesn’t disprove my point; just shows its difficult, not impossible,”

Isaac said with a definite smile. Arthur tilted his head “ok Isaac if we are being “watched” if there was something more out there, some advanced species, why would “they” care about us, would they even consider us intelligent, and if “they” didn’t, why should they care about us enough to want to watch us.”

Isaac looked up into the sky, wondering if anyone was looking back, “maybe intelligent life seeks out each other.”

Arthur laughed, “lovely sentiment, but I don’t know. I don’t think it’s worth getting worked up about if they want to say hi, they can.”

The two leaned back and stared up into the sky, watching the clouds go by wandering about the secrets that lay beyond their jungle. Isaacs’s eyes then widened, and he pointed up, “look, there’s one right there.”

Isaac pointed at a small object in the sky, leaving a white trail behind it. Arthur squinted, then looked at Isaac and started to laughs so much the chimp almost fell out of his tree. Isaac smiled confusedly as to what was funny. “What are you laughing at.”

Arthur caught his breath and grabbed Isaac by the arm “that’s a plane. You Wally”

he began laughing again as Isaac shook his head slightly “what’s a plane,”

he asked. Arthur replied, “Oh, its what the humans use to get about.”

Arthur began to get dazed in amazement. He pointed and said, “what those humans.”

He was pointing at the glass window from which a group of humans watched them. The two chimps began to laugh together at the idea “what those humans, the ones that pick up my poo, made that,”

Isaac said, holding his gut from laughter. Arthur nodded, “yep, those humans the ones that think we’re not the smart ones.”

As he placed his arm on Isaacs’s shoulder for balance, the two tried to get a hold of themselves. “It never crossed my mind those dumb apes could be capable of such things,”

Isaac said as the two of them stared. “Yeah, I know right, I thought it was mad as well when I found out,”

Arthur said. “They’re always on those phones those how did they make a plane,”

Isaac questioned, and Arthur shrugged, “who knows, it makes you wonder who’s the smartest monkey.”

The two’s smile disappeared for a seconded at the notion that maybe they weren’t the smartest. The smiles quickly returned, “yeah, right, your joking. One of them thought I was a girl the other day,”

Isaac said as the two began to laugh again. The two finally stopped, and Arthur said, “wanna throw poo at the window,”

Isaac smiled, “yeah.”
