Charm

“Keep going, don’t break formation!”, Silver was leading his men on a retreat after they were overwhelmed in the walls. After the betrayal of some of his soldiers the battle turned into an irrecoverable defeat.

He thought it was all over until he saw Athena high on the sky. At that moment, Silver decided to pull his men back, leading the advancing demons to fall prey to the harpy’s devastating attacks.

“Heh, that’s what you get, you fucks”, He smiled, proud of himself after seeing the demons being slaughtered into the fierce storm.

“Now’s our chance!, keep formation, head to the gates, we will retake the walls!”

“YEAAAAH!”, the soldiers screamed from the top of their lungs, with regained determination.

Mytha was holding her face which was struck by a long water whip.

She looked at her hand covered in blood, the whip had hit her with such strength that it penetrated her reinforced skin and sent her into the air.

Noticing the lack of any water mixed with her blood, she came to understand the complete control the young man in front of her had over his water magic. Another troublesome person had joined the scene.

“This city sure is full of interesting people”, she said, wiping the blood from her face with the back of her hand.

“Prince Adrian, can you take care of the blue yoma?”, Endo assumed a fighting pose.

“Sure”, Adrian answered. The blue Yoma appeared to be a mage with control of charm magic. An offensive mage like himself should have no problem overpowering him.

“Rick, take care of charmed people!”.

“Yeah!”

“Kill him!”, Adrian aimed at Abeon with his staff, he wished for nothing else than to take care of the enemy commander, the culprit behind his sister’s murder, by his own hand.

At the order, the mist composed images of Maria jumped into the air and rushed towards the demon.

“Nope!”, Abeon too, started running. He ran away at maximum speed heading for the streets of Dorhem.

“Hey!, Come back you coward!”, Adrian too ran after him.

“Ah! Wait Adrian!”, Rodderick who was carefully burying the citizens half their bodies on the ground, too followed quickly after.

Abeon looked behind as he ran, the small army of Marias was running close behind him. [What an annoying spell], he thought as the gears in his head turned trying to think of his next move.

His mind went to the Inn that hosted a group of demons, if he freed them he could use them to attack the prince, however, they weren’t under a simple charming spell, if they were, he could undo it with ease and recruit them to his cause.

But each of them had a collar binding them to servitude. If he wanted to free them all, he would need to take his time destroying each collar. Time he did not have.

Instead he ran towards the Earl’s office.

“Caaaw”, crows who were flying over Dorhem called, they were surveying the current state of the fight. Thanks to their eyes, Abeon could understand the current state of any fight in which they were present, this was what made him such an efficient commander in the front lines.

Information and speed of message relying were one of the most important factors in war. Because of this and his strategic prowess, he had gained the position of commander despite his lacking power.

[I didn’t expect the prince to be this strong, but things are going pretty much as expected. All of my hopes still remain in a single person.]

Abeon understood the types of opponents he would be facing with his small army. Five hundred demons had no way to stand against the likes of Athena and Edeus.

BOOM.

A fiery explosion shook the earth, a large figure was sent flying, impacting on a nearby wall. Once the dust settled, Abeon could see the figure of Blain’s half body currently regenerating while still set on fire.

“Hey Blain, give me a hand here, the prince is after me!”, Abeon ran past Blain, leaving him to deal with the problem.

“Huh?”, Blain’s arm, only bones remaining and still set on fire after the previous attack, pushed against the wall, helping him stand up. It was then when he saw Prince Adrian running towards the scene, behind him an army of spectral warriors with the form of the woman he killed.

“Oh! Finally!, found the prince!”, Blain exclaimed in surprise.

His arm regenerated from the bones to flesh in seconds. “But why are there so many princesses? I thought I killed her”

“So, it was you”, Adrian stopped, the blue yoma was nowhere to be seen, but he had found another interesting prey.

Rodderick, who was following also stopped. His eyes set on the tall abyssal in front of him.

Just as they had described, the creature’s regenerative power kept him from death. Even when missing so much of his body, even when set on fire he stood tall and menacing. He was looking down on Adrian with empty eye-sockets, only an ominous gleam of red light shone ominously from within. It terrified Rodderick to the core.

“Get out of here, you idiots, you will only get in the way against this one”, Edeus walked towards his young apprentices, staff in hand. He had experimented with a combination of numerous spells trying to get rid of Blain, however, the abyssal resisted any attempt to his life.

This was the first time Edeus was fighting an Abyssal. He understood the theory behind killing one. Their bodies would regenerate from their soul, reconstructing from smaller parts to its entirety. This meant that as long as a single cell in his body remained with life, he would be able to rebuild himself.

He tried using his most destructive spells, gigantic explosions of fire at incredible high temperatures in an attempt to disintegrate the demon, but his body was not only able to regenerate, it was also incredible durable.

None of his spells were able to destroy the entirety of his body at once, and when he attempted attacking with a continue barrage of spells, the abyssal’s regeneration would start acting between attacks, avoiding complete annihilation. He was an incredible annoying enemy to deal with.

“Not happening”, Adrian stood still, unwilling to move.

“Thought so”, Edeus sighed. “In that case, give me a hand, I don’t have much mana left. He’s a close combat fighter, stay away form his claws and you will be fine. Get me enough time to cast a powerful spell that can get rid of him for good”.

Edeus’ eyes then looked at Rodderick and nodded with his head towards a street.

“Ember is that way, she’s unconscious, wake her lazy ass up.”

“That won’t be necessary”, said Ember, who appeared from the corner of a nearby street, dusting her robes with her hand.

“Oh, finally decided to get b-“, Edeus words were cut short when he rose his staff to defend himself from the lighting coming his way.

SPARK.

Electricity dispersed through the magic shield he formed around himself.

“Ember, what the hell are you doing?”, he asked with anger in his voice.

The lightning had come from Ember’s staff.

“Kihihihi, sorry Edeus, it seems I got caught up while slacking.”

“This should make things a little more fair, don’t you think?”, Abeon showed himself from the corner of the street behind Ember.

[So that’s what happened], Edeus thought. Charming magic was not very different to elemental magic. One would imbue his will in another person, if the person’s will was stronger, the charm would fail. Because of this, charming only worked towards someone weaker than yourself, however, there was one exception.

Charming someone unconscious would always succeed, after all, they had no will to fight back when knocked out.

“Kihihi, well, this is unfortunate”, Ember cackled, she was still conscious, she was aware she was under control of the enemy, but there was nothing she could do but obey.

“On the bright side, I always wanted to have a rematch, Edeus”. She rose her staff cracking with electricity, aiming it towards the old wizard.
