Prologue
Darwen was excited, his heart beat rapidly while his breaths came in short ragged gasps. Why is he so exited some might ask, but to be honest, that wasn’t even a question. After all, he was turning 18 today and would finally, after years of waiting, get access to the [System]. He would finally be able to leave home and go on the quests like his grandfather had always told him about as a kid. However, none of that mattered if he got a trash starter class and wasn't able to find groups that would be willing to take a first tier adventurer. Right at this moment he was on the train on the way to the administrator building were everyone at the age of 18 was tested to determine what the class that they would start as was.
This was a massive part of what the rest of their lives would be like. Most people got one of the 4 common classes that almost everyone had. These 4 classes were [Warrior], [Rogue], [Mage], and [Priest]. People with these classes added up to almost 80% of the world's known population because they were so common, and evolving a class was extremely hard. In the [System] there was a tier level and a rarity level; rarity determined what tier your class could get while tier was the power of sed class. The rarity system went as follows: common with a max tier of 1, uncommon with a tier range from 2-3, after that came rare with a tier level of 4-5. Once you got past rare you started going into the realm of monsters, where they could destroy armies by themselves and are to be truly feared. The first rarity in this level was epic with a tier range of 6-7. After epic came legendary, and these were some of the most powerful known beings that walked the mortal worlds with a tier range from 8-9. Next were the true monsters that had the power to rival nations and could defeat over 10 tier 9 opponents at once. This was the WORLD class rarity, they were all tier 10 and the closest things to a gods that wasn't a god. Finally there were the unique classes which were one of a kind classes that only one person could have. Unlike the other rarities, they could be anywhere from a weak tier 2 to a powerful tier 10 class. What really made them dangerous was that you didn't know how strong they were until you fought them, and by then, it was too late. The reason for this was that the [system] showed what class someone had if you focused at the spot over their heads for a few moments. This doesn't show their tier, but since in school all kids were made to memorize all the classes and their respective tier, you would still know. However, with uniques this didn't work because they were a one-of-a-kind, so there was no way to know if you were going into a fight with a tier 2 or 10.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
In his trial Darwen hoped that he would get a rare class, something that was perfectly in the middle, not a common or uncommon which would be weak, but also something too outstanding. The reason for the second part was that people that had epic classes and higher were normally tied to a country because they were too powerful to lose. It had been said that some of epic and higher that got that class from their trial had gone missing after refusing to be tied to the country, only to come back years later 100 percent dedicated to the country, and that was something that he wanted to avoid at all cost.
Darwen was jostled out of his musings as his stop came up, and the doors of the train opened, letting the tide of humanity flow out of the train and into the station. He got up from his seat and walk out the train, getting jostled from all sides as people pushed to both get in and out of the train. Finally, after several minutes of pushing through the crowds, he emerged from the flow to be greeted with one of the most amazing sight he had ever seen. The train station was located high on a hill, close to the center of the massive metropolis he now found himself in. Below him stretched a city that went on and on for miles upon miles. There were modern skyscrapers, small houses, and enormous trees that seemed to canopy the entire city, letting shafts of light in from in between their massive leafy branches. In the center of it all was the administrative building which was a massive tower that seemed to go up forever until it was finally swallowed by the massive trees.
At this point, the scents started to hit him. First was the ever-present scent of tree sap with a slight hint of nutmeg. After that, he started to smell other things, the scents of cinnamon flowers and cooking food came from the venders that were selling their food. The air was warm and slightly damp, most likely because this city used steam for all forms of power. This steam was then absorbed by the trees high above, creating a climate that was always pleasantly warm without being humid. It truly was the most beautiful city he had ever seen. He smiled and said “i'm finally in Tremana!”
