Wellbreaker Tech and The Sundering (Concept Card)

Before the Fall of Man and the Sundering, wellbreaker tech was synonymous with the modern world. Magic had reached a point where it was indistinguishable from technology. The peoples of the world grew prosperous and many. And as their numbers increased, so did their reliance on the industry, technology, and infrastructure associated with what later became known as 'wellbreaker technology.'

For long had scholars, wizards, and scientists yearned to tap directly into that infinite source of magical energy. The Well. But it was not infinite. The civilization of man wielded their new-found technology arrogantly, as if tomorrow would never come. There came a day when the Well's oscillations fell out of focus for just a moment. A flicker, like an errant breeze over a flame.

In that moment, from one breath to the next, the energy being supplied to the Mantles of Responsibility flickered too. The world fractured and split apart. Billions died as the fire of life was snuffed out. Almost all of man perished. The only life to survive was that in the most magically saturated areas, which only accounted for about 21% of all ecosystems. The number of humans to have survived, aside from those holding the Mantles of Responsibility, numbered a measly 10,000 souls (approximately).
