And as their numbers increased, so did their reliance on the industry, technology, and infrastructure associated with what later became known as 'wellbreaker technology.'

For long had scholars, wizards, and scientists yearned to tap directly into that infinite source of magical energy. The Well. But it was not infinite. The civilization of man wielded their new-found technology arrogantly, as if tomorrow would never come. There came a day when the Well's oscillations fell out of focus for just a moment. A flicker, like an errant breeze over a flame.
