Lucius awoke in the other world, lying in his bed. There was a pleasant fire crackling in the fire pit, making the air warm and cozy. A puzzled look crossed his face.
Didn't I go to sleep outside? On a chair? Lucius thought, confused. He had no recollection of laying down on his bed or even lighting a fire. He sat up and looked at his chest.
He was still wearing the ripped shirt, but his upper body was wrapped in a cast that basically covered his entire upper body.
Lucius got to his feet and attempted to slowly stretch. The cuts were definitely still there and threatened to break open again, but they held. He hobbled outside and squinted as the sun blinded him.
Once the glare receded from his eyes, he walked over to his garden. Even though he planted them the day before, they already started to sprout. On Earth, it would take two to three weeks, but hey, this isn't Earth.
Lucius watered his plants and looked at everything he's built (with the help of Luna, of course). The house wasn't big but it was enough to accommodate Lucius and his needs. Now, he wanted to modernize it up. Maybe try to find a way to put lights and things like that.
"Oh, hello Lucius!"
Lucius saw Luna coming out of the forest carrying a bundle of plants in her arms. He waved and flashed a smile at her.
"You have some pretty nasty injuries there, Lucius. I'm surprised that you could get up today," she said.
"Wait- were you the one that put me inside and healed my injuries?" Lucius asked.
"Yup," she proudly said and sat on a stool. She started to mash the herbs together with her hands, quickly turning them to a mash with her strength. Then, she put them in a small bottle and added water to them, making a green liquid.
She handed it to Lucius. "Here, drink this," she said.
"Uh..." Lucius stared at the concoction. It seemed disgusting and the smell was enough to make Lucius gag.
"It's just medicine; drink up," Luna said and pressed the bottle against his mouth and tilted the whole thing up.
"Mmphh--"
Lucius nearly vomited. It tasted like someone mashed the most bitter things in the world into one bottle and diluted it with a few drops of water. He forced himself to swallow it, but his mouth clearly didn't like it.
Luna stepped back, the look of satisfaction on her face. "There. That should stop any infections that want to come through your wounds."
Lucius washed out his mouth with water and tried to get rid of the nasty taste in his mouth.
"Bleh. That was absolutely disgusting," Lucius commented. He wiped his mouth with his sleeve and stood up.
"So," Luna started. She put her hands on her hips. "How did you manage to kill an Eloon*?"
(*Eloon is the beast that Lucius fought)
Oh yeah, I forgot I have the body of that, Lucius remembered. He walked to where he dropped the body and found it was neatly dissected into three piles: the fur, the meat, and the guts.
He turned back to Luna.
"Did you do this?" He asked.
"Yeah, but are you going to answer my question?"
"Sorry. So I went into the forest to look around and I was attacked by this guy-" Lucius points to the cut-up animal, "- and I killed it."
"That doesn't explain how you killed it," Luna said with a very curious look on her face.
If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
So Lucius told Luna how he did it, making sure to include every detail. She listened with great interest and when Lucius finished, she gave him a mini applause.
"Congrats," she said. "That was your first battle right?"
"Yeah," Lucius said. He could move without difficulty again and his wounds felt like they were numbed. The medicine seemed to do more than just keep away infections.
Mentally exhausted, he sat down and heaved a sigh. After some thinking, Lucius said, "I think I need a better weapon. The knife is really useful, but it doesn't have much reach."
Luna thought for a little bit, then said, "Hm... I do have a large assortment of weapons at my house. Why don't you come over and see what suits you?"
"Sure," Lucius said. Why not?
They both headed out and soon, they arrived at a cave that had a visible light inside. There were a bed and a table on the ground, a firepit in the middle, and a big pile of things Lucius couldn't identify at first. Then, he realized that each and every one of the things was weapons.
"W-whoa, that's a lot of things. Every one of them is a weapon?" Lucius asked for confirmation.
"Yup!" Luna said. "I've been living here for a little bit, so I have a pretty big collection. You can take anything you want since I don't use them that often."
So Lucius walked over and started to carefully dig through the pile. The first thing he pulled out was a dagger similar to the one he used, but when he pulled it out of the sheath, the blade was red hot. He jammed it back into the sheath and gingerly put it aside.
After almost ten minutes, he found something that he liked.
It was a long, sharp blade in a blue and red sheath. When he pulled it out, he was stunned.
It was a katana, but it was by no means normal. The top half of the blade was ice blue, and when he touched it, the moisture on his hand froze. He yanked his finger away, and the sound of ice breaking was heard. When he touched the bottom half, Lucius yelped and pulled his finger away. It was smoking, and the outer skin layer was burned off.
Putting his finger in his mouth, he gazed at the sword in amazement.
Then he noticed two small, white buttons on the hilt. He cautiously leaned away and slowly pressed one of them.
A loud pop sounded and the top half of the blade dropped off. There was a small string-like thing connecting the blades together, and when he touched it, it made a paper-thin cut where he touched it. When he swung it, the rope stretched and whipped the top half of the blade out. The rope acted as elastic, and the blade came back flying at Lucius. It flew past his head so fast, it trimmed Lucius's hair.
He pressed the button again, and the top half of the blade came back to the bottom and snapped back together.
Even more cautious, he leaned back as far as he could go and pressed the other button.
His mouth dropped. The colors of the blades slowly switched places, so the hot part of the blade was on top and the cold part was on the bottom. He confirmed this by touching only one of the parts.
When he pressed the button again, the blade turned grey and looked like a normal blade. It returned to room temperature and there was no signs of heat of cold.
After some thinking, he decided. Lucius liked the weapon, so he walked back to Luna, who was currently eating stew.
"You found a weapon?" She asked through a stuffed mouth.
"Yup," Lucius said and showed Luna the sword.
"Oh, okay. You can have it," she said and continued to shove food in her mouth.
"Just like that?"
"Jusb lite tat," she mumbled.
"Thanks," Lucius said and put the katana back into the sheath. Since he couldn't put it anywhere else on his body, he just dropped the shoulder strap over his head and let it rest against his back.
"Well, I'm heading back," Lucius said. "Thanks for the weapon!"
"No problem," Luna said and waved.
Lucius walked back to his house and pulled the katana out. He pressed one of the buttons so the blade turned normal.
If I hit something on accident, it can break, not turn into a block of ice or burn down, Lucius thought and proceeded to learn how to use it.
He started with the simple things, stabs, slashes, things like that. His body was quite out of shape, but ever since he came to this world, he grew more and more fit in both worlds. Still, his sword arm became quite tired, forcing him to switch hands. Before he knew it, he was able to swing a sword with the same strength in both hands.
Lucius practiced on a tree and by the end of his self-training, he managed to break one down. He already took off his torn shirt, leaving him standing in bandages. He glared distastefully at his shirt.
Soon, I need to figure out how to make some clothes. I could just bring clothes from the real world, but that's boring. I want to try to learn how to make some clothes but now is not the time. I'll bring some clothes tomorrow.
"No no no no no!" said a male voice.
Lucius jumped back and looked for the source.
A man with a massive sword on his back entered the clearing.
No-- it wasn't a man. It was a beast-man. From appearance, it looked like a wolf: sharp face, silver hair, ears, and tail.
He walked over and yanked the sword out of Lucius's hand with such force, Lucius's hand felt raw.
