February 18, year 2045 of the Gregorian Calendar: the day the Universe Rift would open once more, and also the day I end up in another world.
The day had begun like how it always did; I would wake up, make my own breakfast and get ready for college. You know, the normal stuff, and to think I also thought that today would end like how I always thought it would too...sadly, I was painfully wrong.
Being an honour student isn't easy though, you have so many people looking with high expectations for you and at the same time, there are many people that envy you that you almost feel their stares and almost hear their inner voice just cursing you. That is the kind of things I have to put up with daily, and honestly, I really feel like just leaving this world and all its worries and live a life of more freedom, doing the things I actually like; like watch anime and read manga but I now know that the more you stand out, the more you won't be able to do what you like publicly.
The day went by just as normal as it usually would, like all other days. I only had morning classes, so today after lunch, I decided to go back home after going to the supermarket to buy some groceries to make dinner and breakfast for tomorrow.
I had just passed through the college's gates when I heard an extremely loud crack of unknown origin. I covered my ears to protect my eardrums from bursting from the violent shaking of the volumes. The cracking sound had lessen down to be more comfortable but you could still hear the slight cracks everywhere around you. I looked around after taking my hands off my ears and saw that no one else at all heard that loud crack. "Man, seriously? No one else heard that just now?", I asked myself. "Maybe it's just my imagination? But that felt so real..."
"Hey guys! I think we found someone!", a voice suddenly rang out from the sky.
"Wow! Really! This boy can really hear the Universe Rift opening! He must be the one we're looking for!", another voice rang out in response the voice before.
"Hey kid! You hear me, don't you? Just listen to what I say and everything will be okay!"
"Stop saying it like that! He doesn't even know who we are so might as well bring him here as he is." Bewildered, I answer back to these ominous voices that only I could hear. "Hey! Who are you guys? And what do you mean 'everything will be okay'? Is something going to happen to me?", I exclaimed at the sky to the direction where I believe the voices came from. I could hear other students that are leaving and coming chattering about me with question like "hey, is that guy okay?" or "is that guy sane? He's talking to the sky.."
The voices had stopped right after I replied for about three minutes and then another voice came out. "Well, he is the only one out of the entire population of Victria that could hear us, so I guess we might as well welcome him over."
"Uhm... I don't know what you guys are discussing over there, but it seems you're talking about me, so would you mind letting me in on my own discussion?", I looked up and said in response, "and what is this Victria you talk about and why am I the only one that can hear you?"
"Well, I don't mind answering you now but it might prove some difficulty. Why don't you come to us? We'll tell you where to go!" The voice answered me with a rather happy-go-lucky tone.
"I don't mind. But just answer me one thing before I go..."
"Sure, what's the question?"
"This place you're telling me to go... Is it more fun and liberating than here," I asked with a vibrant smile of anxiety. There was a slight pause. But one of the men on the other side of the voices said with what I feel being a smirk, "Heh, fun? I can't say much about that but I assure you life will be a lot more free than over that at least."
"Then! Just tell me the way!", I shouted to the sky.
"Very well said! All you have to do now is run as fast as you could and take the biggest leap you can towards that rift you see in the sky!"
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
"The sky?" I muttered while tilting my head backwards to see the sky and there it was as the voice said, a very large rift in the sky that looked as if it leads to another world, "wow... Am I really the only one who's seeing this?"
"Yeah, yeah you are... It's evident because you're actually holding a conversation with us"
"Well, whatever! I don't care anymore! I'm going in!" I run as fast as I could, stop and take a 180 degree turn and using the centripetal force, and launch up as high as I could.
"Woah! It's like I'm flying towards that rift!", I exclaimed as my jump seemingly became an endless propeller pushing me towards the rift.
"In a way, you could say you practically are. The rift has empowered you with the ability to 'Rift travel' and now you're going to continue flying until you go through."
"This stuff is amazing! I could get used to this!"
"Oh, I should probably warn you once you reach this world, you'll lose your ability to fly and you'll be going into a free fall from a who-knows-what height."
"Haha alright!", and with a sudden feeling of realization, I made out what he just said... "Whaaaaaaat?! I'm going to die if that happens!"
"Well, no problems, the rift might just open close to the ground if you're lucky.", the voice said while giggling.
"Noooooooooo", I scream and flail my arms around from fear as I can already see the exit.
A bright white light flashed brilliantly as I made it out of the rift and now, I could no longer feel the sense of flying and as gravity took over my body, I dropped. I looked down and only saw clouds and thought to myself, "Yep, I knew it. I shouldn't have listened to that voice just now.... Goodbye cruel world!"
I now fall freely from at least a kilometre up high in the air and accelerating due to gravity. I had a feeling of regret knowing I mostly will die here. But after a few seconds of falling, I saw a silhouette of a winged creature coming towards me. I pinch my eyes in an effort to make out an image of the creature but the wind kept blowing my eyelids open.
"Graaaaaaah", I heard a loud roar coming from the creature and continue to look as it gets closer... And closer until I saw the shape of another thing... It had the shape of a human... But it wasn't, because there was something really distinguishing a human from what I am seeing now... I saw long, pointy ears. "Hey! Grab hold of my arm if you don't want to die!", a rather feminine voice resonated through the air and now I could make it out as they were right next to me. It was an elf riding a Wyvern-like dragon! She was very beautiful, with long blonde hair flowing naturally down almost to her waist, a slender body of about 160cm tall and eyes...eyes blue as the sky; she was the very meaning of perfect.
The voice which sounded like that of an angel's, the elf then held her hand out to help me. I hesitated but then I took her arm and she pulled me onto the back of the dragon and I took the seat behind of her. She muttered some kind of a foreign language that apparently the dragon understood and so, in response, the dragon went for a dive down.
We have finally gone through the thick barriers of cloud, and now the ground was finally in clear sight. The scene of a very large citadel surrounded my vision. Castles and villages can be seen within the walls of such a magnificent settlement. Then suddenly, a voice came out, "hey, you could stop wrapping so tightly around me now. We're going very slowly." As I heard these words, I had jolted back to reality from my awestruck sight and into realizing I had been tightly wrapping my arms around this woman's waist. "Uwah! I'm sorry! I was so amazed by the empire that I had forgotten!", I immediately release my grip from around her waist instantly and fold them across to make sure my arms don't go anywhere unnecessary.
We had been flying for about another ten minutes and thus finally, we have reached the gates to the amazing fortress of magnificence.
