Prologue

There once was a prophecy, to summon a hero in an hour of need,

Blessed by a God and Kings alike, the hopes of the world laid on his shoulders,

Too bad he didn't give a shit. Now he has to die.

Korrin found himself gradually coming to accept his newfound purpose in life. Being yanked away from his house and any form of comfort by a highly amused god who could end him with a mere thought tended to let any form of protest he may have thought of uttering dying in his throat.

"So, let me get this straight..." he began, glancing nervously at the god. With a grin and a motion for him to get on with it, he continued. "You want me to, what exactly? Find a stupidly overpowered isekai villian with plans of conquering the world?"

"Exactly. Don't forget the part where he's also been blessed by that worlds reigning Goddess of Magic and the King's Authority."

He couldn't help but look down at himself. Yep, just as he suspected, he still had his relatively unfit body cultivated by years of leaning over a desk.

"Forgive me for asking, but will I get any weapons? Any gifts, or skills, or something along those lines? I really don't think I'd be able to just walk up to the guy and punch him in the face."

The god hummed and murmured to himself for a few seconds, considering something. "Yes, I suppose I should give you something to make your job somewhat easier." At this, Korrin brightened up, thoughts of being kidnapped from his home almost forgotten.

"But I'm not going to." At this, his face felt. Realising that getting angry and demanding answers from the god would not end well, he went for a more tactical approach. "How do you expect me to do my job if I have nothing to hurt the guy with?"

At this, the god sighed. "The last person I gave power to followed his job for all of one and a half months. Thinking he wasn't under constant supervision, he decided that the people he was serving by removing an evil mass murderer should serve him instead. You can give me absolutely nothing that would make me consider giving you power, straight up, for nothing. No."

Korrin remained silent.

With the silence in the room, and the god seeming to be done with his explanation for the moment, he turned his thoughts inwards. 'Of course I have to kill someone who's wiped out countries without any help. Shit. Fuck. Okay. What can I do...'

The sudden appearance of a table of text being transmitted right into his mind startled him, his attention gripped upon the entirely foreign sensation.

Mission Eliminate the target, by all means neccesary. Target Shiro Arata

"Here. This is for simplicities sake. Just bring up this panel whenever you need, and you will feel a mental tether towards his location. And to make sure that you won't die immediately, I'll put you somewhere relatively safe."

Korrin mentally slapped himself, thinking that at least he had something to work with. "T-thanks. So, say that I find the guy...", he began, repressing an eyeroll at how suitably cliche his name seemed. "You find him, and you do what you need to. Stab him in the gut, shoot him with an arrow, cast an acid cloud above him, whatever you think is best. Figure it out yourself."

"W-wait, hold on a second! You were just telling me that you weren't going to hand me any power, and now you're telling me I could cast balls of acid?"

The god rolled his eyes. "Yes. I will not hand you power. Power given is worthless. What you will have instead is access to the worlds system." And at this, Korrin suddenly found that he could not muster up any more emotion. All the shocks in the past several minutes had begun to grow old, but he did find his fear over being slaughtered immediately seeping away. "Could I ask for something minor then, like a faster experience gain?"

The god grinned. "Sure. Just pick a number between 1 and 20!"

Korrin paused. This was a trap, he felt sure of it. Looking at the wide grin on his face, he determinedly did not ask why those numbers, instead relying on the tried and proven method of pure luck.

"I choose 13."

The grin from the gods face fell as if it were never there to begin with. "Hmmph. Only barely survived. Anything less than a 12 would have given you a debuff. Instead, you get this." And so saying, he flicked an orb of light at him.

Ping!

You have gained a +3 to All Attributes for each level you gain. This effect is retroactive.

"And with that, we're done here. Try not to die immediately. Good hunting." Before Korrin could get a word in, a blinding headache overtook him, his eyes were forced shut, and his body felt like it was being sucked through a tube too thin by far.
