The Witch's Grimoire (7)

"20th October 1119

I have finally arrived at the Stylix river yesterday. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw the banks on both sides. As far as the eyes can see, there's nothing but tents set up everywhere. Later on, I learnt that our forces consists of 70000 strong Moon Priests. The wizard's have somewhere between 40000 and 50000 of their Truth Seekers. I am not sure about the number of wizards they have or the witches and warlocks that have come to join our cause.

The shamans have already suffered defeat and are out of the picture or else I can't even imagine what a three way standoff between such behemoths of armies would be.

I feel relieved after learning that we have the number advantage. Lady Elena's presence fills our souls with confidence. No one thinks that she would lose against the wizard demi god, Nibel. Still, he is not to be underestimated for he had fought our lady to a standstill two decades ago.

I pray that the moon watches over her. If she were to lose, the advantage of 20000 armed men would amount to nothing."

'Are wizards and witches above 6th circle referred to as demi gods? Is the Nibel she mentioned, Lightbriner Nibel? The current lord of the Tower of Truth? If this is true, then lord Nibel should have won the fight. This would also explain why the witches are so few in number and defamed as evildoers.

The truth seekers are the men that are raised from a young age to fight for the Tower of Truth, the moon priests should be a similar force belonging to the witches' faction.'

Vincent had a learnt a lot of surprising things from this entry. Not only was the size of the two armies absolutely gigantic, the levels of the powerhouses' strength surpassed his knowledge as well. The fact that Nibel had been a demi god two centuries ago also shocked him. The man must have been hundreds of years old back then and now he was still alive. One of the main reasons why people couldn't advance continually was because they had limited time. Vincent couldn't even begin to imagine how powerful the man was now.

The two armies clashed for the first time yesterday. The ground shook at the charge of hundreds of thousands of men. A normal man might think that everyone had gone mad as he looked at the men charge at each other when a giant river was between them.

I always thought that nature triumphed all if one wasn't a demi god or higher but I was proven wrong yesterday. Even the biggest river in all of the continent was forced to halt when hundreds of wizards and witches cast spells at the same time. Parts of the river froze and the rest was covered with soil instantly. The rest can be left for one to imagine, it was a slaughter fest. more than 7000 of our moon priests died while the wizards lost 9000 of their truth seekers.

The elites of both the forces haven't even joined the war and the death count is already so high. I don't know what will transpire once the elites join in.

May the dead find peace in the moon's embrace."

Vincent was speechless at this point. He started doubting if the witch who wrote this was sane at all. She wrote that the Stylix river was forced to stop. It was a giant river dozens of meters wide and at least a hundred feet deep. Unsure of the credibility of the records, he began reading again.

"5th November 1119

I witnessed a ceremony I had only ever heard about. Thirty gold ranked witches and warlocks oversaw the ceremony sacrificing 3333 cattle and tons of other precious herbs and resources. The blood and flesh congealed together to form a 60 meter tall giant with huge horns and a long tail. It opened its eyes after hours of tedious ceremonies. It was as if I was standing near a volcano when it came to life. Scorching heat radiated from its flaming body in all directions and the tents within 200 meter radius of the giant caught fire instantly. I would have gotten serious burns too had I not protected myself in a timely manner. This was the power of Balrog, a demon that matched a demi god in strength.

We were certain that we would be able to put an end to the war with the addition of such a fearsome entity to our lineup but we were wrong once again.

The wizards had a similar trick up their sleeve. A giant golem made up of the sturdiest of metals and rock. It was in no way smaller than the Balrog and probably heavier. The battle between the two sent deafening sound waves and tremors through the ground with every exchange. In the end, no winner was determined and more men from both our forces died. The estimated loss is in tens of thousands and I have grown a bit numb to this.

The higher ups however are worried that that we will run out of sacrifices faster than the wizards run out of mana crystals. The Balrog will perish the moment we run out of sacrifices to supply it with life energy and the golem will be useless the moment it runs out of mana crystal. Lady Elena and Nibel both seem to be waiting it out.

May the moon bless me with courage and luck."

Vincent had also grown numb to surprises. The biggest golem he had read about was 15 meters tall and it outclassed a gold ranked warrior in size, speed, weight and durability. He had thought it inconceivable when he read about it but this entry shattered his world view completely.

'They summoned a balrog. The witch also mentioned that it was as strong as a demi god. The only downside to this ceremony was the insane cost of maintenance. But what is this life energy? Is it something used only by the witches? Looks like I still have a lot to learn.'

Closing the journal, Vincent went out to take a walk and calm his mind. He felt like he would go crazy if he kept on reading it without a break.
