A Tale Of Wraiths.

".......exception to the needs of Life are Wraiths. They do not qualify as undead, so do not fear the Suns rays, yet they have no need for food, water, air, or blood flowing within it, they do not posses minds capable of reason, nor Souls capable of Love or Emotion, they are not dead yet do not Live.

They are a perverse existence who's only purpose is to cause death to whoever they encounter, and to kill them requires you to stop them long enough to burn their bodies into ash for they regrow with even a hand left; 'I once saw a Lord make an expedition to kill once discovered in his lands, a hundred strong knights, armed with blades of the finest steel, yet more than half fell to the beast, when they finally killed the it, the Lord demanded its head as trophy, raising it to admire its feminine features. I stood beside him, eager to have it as specimen for study, only to gasp in horror as its eyes opened and it dived on the throat of the careless Lord killing him. I burnt the then immobile thing with all the Power I could muster.'

The features of a wraith are female, all known ones are described in such a manner, reason why it would be as such remain unknown, perhaps they are as such to guile unwary men into a most unfortuned death?

Wraiths do not harm children, odd but such creatures of malevolence that kill both men and women do not harm children of a certain range, twelve being the age I have estimated from my research. Rather than kill such children, stories of those who have survived such encounters claim that the creature take them home, care for them and raise them, protecting and showing them such motherly affection that they are  completely incomparable with the brutal agents of death who captured the children in the first place, However the day after they turned twelve they would awaken to a mournful shriek and find a distraught wraith staring at where they lay with sorrow, even after they move the wraith would remain, weeping over a sight only they see, a long time passing before they notice the now twelve child attacking it with vehemence and what to them sounded like an angry and accusatory cry.

Wraiths are perhaps the most mysterious of all the creatures in this book, leaving us with questions such as; where do wraiths come from? how do they procreate? DO they procreate? Legend claims that they are the corrupted souls of women who lost their children, but what is the true reason for their care of children? what changes after the twelfth birthday? what do they see lying there?

If we can identify what plagues wraiths so I wonder

Can we help them?..............."
