Prologue - Where it all began..
Darkness.
A place where there is devoid of light, a state of absence, something which you can say when you've been isolated away from afar.
Yeah, That's where I am right now.
「Ugh...」
Pushing through the seemingly unshakable headache as I open my eyes, I tried to get up from the cold floor I laid on.
My hands felt a bit dull as I stood, I sat on the ground trying to remember what happened.
「Looks like we fell on a high place..」
A loud but sudden voice reverberated around, surprising me as I jolted a bit.
Where is it?
Looking over franticly as to where that came from, There I saw my long time friend, better yet to say my childhood best friend Jean, who've been through thick and thin with me.
He's neither tall nor too short, with an average looking face that you could commonly find just about anywhere throughout the neighborhood, although with a slight difference in appearance when you get close due to his imposing eyes that could make you shit yourself, making you think otherwise if that's really normal looking.
Overall the rest are just about average.
Jean was just standing while looking up high, squinting with his hands raised overhead.
「God damn dude, you're so loud and echoey.」
Relieved as it was just him, I closed my eyes scratching my head as I complained about him being loud, looking back only to see him not paying attention to what I said, what a bastard.
Cursing inside, a sudden but a drop of water fell on to my face.
I looked up, curious as to where it was from, wondering what was up there that Jean was looking up also.
A bit far ahead, high up from where we are, you can see there's several tint ray of light shining through the gaps that the water is also gushing out through a bit from above. That looks like it was blocked by several rocks, although it look small from here. Showing cracks here and there at the surroundings, looking like it'd fall at anytime.
Imagining those falling to where I am makes my heart stop, I should stop doing that.
Thanks to light shining through, the surroundings are dimmedly lit up allowing me to see a little bit.
Better than nothing I guess.
「You know looking around, it's correct to say we're fucked on our first day of college.」
Jean looked around as he said it with a hint of exasperation.
Confused as of what he meant, he continued on as if knowing that fact.
「All thanks to a certain someone who got the wrong map, huh?」
Ending with a stare, one that could bore through a hole of someone if possible, coupled with his already unusual eyes, someone would've already been sweating buckets at it, more so it being directed to you.
Well, It's normal occurrence for me though, surprisingly.
Still, puzzled as of why he's like that, I tried remembering back before everything went like this.
But when I tried to, the headache which was already there when I woke up escalated rapidly. Hindered by it, I couldn't really remember everything that happened back then because of the burden when doing so, but only at the part he mentioned that I remembered unfortunately .
As far as I could call, It was him that was panicking as of which map to pick on the basket as there were multiple ones on display at the tray. Each with a similar appearance of it being covered in plastic, but has a distinguishable feature of there being a colored paper, ones that you see like those mini paper bookmarks from a book at the side. The paper being plastered at the left corner, though it's being grouped by color side by side, numbering quite a dozen of them.
I got told off by him as to hurry which of it were to pick, shaking my shoulders back and forth, I ended up choosing a random one in a hurry without care so I could be let go instead..
「Yeah yeah, right.」
Remembering it, I got irritated by his accusation even though all he did was complain which is which he was going to choose.
I brushed it off as I can't really deal with his crap right now, although it's also partly my fault that it happened, since I got swept by as well, Oh well.
No wait, it's all mostly his, Yeah!
Probably.
Seeing as to how I easily brushed off what he said, he continued on glaring at me.
「Anyways, where the heck are we?」
Looking around as I wondered where in the world we were, It being dimly lit made it quite hard to see. Things that I could see properly were those that are near, there were a few huge bulky debris and others varying in size around us, one being as large as few people standing on top of each other to it being a pebble size. Damn, the luck of not being squashed underneath those is immense, scary.
There are also quite a few fishes laying around here and there as water rains down from above, pouring down not too far from where we are.
「No idea.」
Although still glaring, Jean answered with a bit of an irritation in his tone. Well, I don't really know fully what happened earlier but uhh, sorry?
「Still your fault though on why we're here.」
Jean said as if it was the end of it. Accusing me in the end as why we're here, I got annoyed given as to I don't really remember much but I'm pretty sure he's part of it as well knowing him for long.
「Like hell should I know? You're the one who told me to hurry up.」
Recalling back as of what happened from before, reminding him that it's also his too.
What balls does this guy has for blaming it all on me?
「Argh! Whatever, I don't wanna argue on this stupid shit as we've got bigger problems here.」
「You mean, your stupid shit?」
This guy, what a pain. Sighing deeply as I tried to calm my rising irritation deep down, collecting myself bit by bit as to think of what to do from now. But thinking about it, his anger on me is justified as we're both down here, Uuf.
Seriously, all these things happening around me just as I woke up makes my head hurts even more, Ugh.
「Just where are we?」
Murmuring, holding my head as I massage this annoying bitch of a headache to ease the pain, what a hassle.
Most importantly how do we plan on going back?
Damn it, my memory is still a bit vivid because of this headache..
「Welp! Since we're doing this, I'll get what we can use.」
Declared by Jean as he headed to where the debris are.
Snapping me out of my thoughts, surprising me by his sudden change of pace. He started looking around at where the rocks were.
Well, You do you I guess, I'll just let him do what he wants.
What's important right now is where we are, sigh.
「Ack..!」
Suddenly, the headache which I've thought of getting used to worsened, making me writhe on the ground.
「Crap, why now...!」
It felt like my head was going to explode, the feeling of an unimaginable pain which I didn't expect on having upon waking got worse, the feeling of it pulsating through my head. Enduring moments of pain, it warping my sense of time, making seconds passing by felt like forever, each throbbing pain shaves away my sanity little by little, wishing for it to go away each passing second as this never ending pain intensified.
Various memories began flooding my head, the similar kind of something being forcefully shoved open at your mouth despite being full, that kind of feeling. Memories flowed in making me recall at that time which felt vague when I tried to remember back then. The intense headache which have been torturing my head gradually eased up, subsiding not long after.
I laid on the cold hard floor with my back facing it, spreading my body out in all direction, suffering from all of that wrung me dry.
Now that I think about it, the floor is quite smooth. It's quite cool as well.
Probably because of the clothes I'm wearing was wet, I just noticed that.
First off, what the heck was that?!
So sudden it hurt like ass, Damn it.
Just why?
Ahh, seriously to experience something like this not long after waking up.. Is my luck that bad?
「Haah..」
Ah, Life why must you do this to me?
