Chapter 2- I HATE SPIDERS!

The days passed in silence, not a sound came from the camera, not a single person came in the door, the hours went by and then days, then weeks, I wasn't even sure how long I was in this cell anymore. The only thing that accompanied me in my cell, was me, myself and my brain that is driving me crazy from having nothing to do and no human interaction. After a few days, I decided that anything is better than nothing, so I started a routine of sorts.

Wake up when the light in my room gets turned on, do a morning workout until the breakfast tray is slid in through a slot in the door, eat the abysmal food and then work out some more until lunch, eat that then do some stretching and work out some more until supper comes, eat that then stretch some more before going to sleep when the lights are turned off again.

I wasn't quite sure how effective my routine was to help me not go insane at being in a small white cell for days on end, but at least it's something to pass the time. Of course that didn't stop me from wondering who exactly was keeping me in here, besides Dr. Heart, and I also couldn't help being frightened every time a scream, howl or unearthly sound rings through the walls and doors. I was slowly getting used to hearing the noise and I could usually sleep through the night, but it still made me wonder, what terrible monsters were in this place…

Exercising was the only thing I could do anymore, to rid my brain of the gruesome images that pop into my head whenever I hear the noises, whenever I think about what caused my life to change so much in the span of minutes.

Sirens sound out through speakers across the facility and I bolt onto my feet from a crunch. “What the hell!?” I yell out and cover my ears from the loud alarm that is coming from the speaker in the camera and faintly from the hallway beyond the door as well. This has never happened before… I was shocked and confused at what this could mean, but then, silence fell.

I lower my hand, even more confused at the change. That is when the lights went off and I could hear a click from where the cell door was. I froze, was something coming in? Was it whatever had caused those painful screeches and howls? Before a panic attack could set in, a slow pulsing red light began to light the room I was in and I quickly scanned the room under the harsh red light, but seeing nothing that I hadn't seen everyday ever since I had gotten in the cell all those days ago.

I cautiously took steps to the door and inspected it carefully, it seemed exactly like it always did… Then I noticed what was different. The door was open a crack, letting me see an empty hallway that was pulsing in the same red light as my room. “Why is-” I started to mutter to myself when I heard a clanging, like something heavy and metal hit the floor and curious but frightened, I slowly looked out through the crack in the door and I can see…

Is that a little girl? They keep children in here?! I open the door fully to get a better view and the door glides soundlessly to the side and I step out a little. The little girl hasn't made a sound, but I can see her struggling against… Something small, about the size of a hand that appears to be attacking her, trying to get to her face, but she is barely holding it at bay with arms that seem… Odd. Almost metallic in color, but I can't really see very well with the pulsing red light through the hallway.

But none of that matters. There is a little girl being attacked by something, and I can see at least five more of the things farther down in the hallway. I feel the blood pump in my veins and I rush forwards, reaching the little girl in two large bounds and with that momentum, I punch the thing on top of the little girl and send the thing into a wall.

In the moment before I punch the thing however, I see the creature and it is a huge spider, with a strangely colored round ball for its main body and no abdomen like a normal spider and its legs are very long and thin, the entire spider measuring around a forearm and clenched fist.

The spider flails wildly in the air and hits the opposite wall with a dull thud, luckily it seems to be not very hard to kill as it does not crawl back up and curls on its back, the way spiders do when they die. I quickly look at the small girl on the floor and say “Hey, you alright kid?” to the little girl. The little girl doesn't respond, but then I notice that the little girl looks… weird. She looks mostly fine from the atack, but in the harsh red light, I noticed that I wasn't wrong about what color her arm is. Its metal, along with several other patches on her body, noticeable mostly on her face, which is about half machine.

The little girl was some type of cyborg… I don't know if I should be horrified that a little girl went through something that caused her to become part machine, or interested at how it works and how it affected her.

Before I could make up my mind on the fact that she is a cyborg, I get reminded that the spider had friends when suddenly, I feel a slight pain and weight on my leg and I jerk my head around and see that one of the spiders in the hallway is making its way up my leg! It's really fast too, as before I can even react, the spider is at my knees. Holding in an undignified scream, I react quickly as I can and smack the large spider with the back of my hand and send it off into another of the multi legged freaks, sending it rolling back.

But what made me even more terrified of the little freaks is that in the light and closeness of the spider, I could see that instead of a body connecting the legs, there was a human eye. A bloodied human eye, as if it was torn out of a skull.

I shuddered at coming into contact with the monster, but hardened my resolve and put my fists up in a boxing stance and stepped carefully to the monsters, to protect the little cyborg and myself. “Oh ya, you are about to die.” I told myself, regretting my life's choices as I did.

The spiders clearly didn't like that and they started swarming towards me, one on either wall and four on the floor. The spiders on the wall were slightly faster than the ones on the ground and closer, so I decided to try to take out the one on the right wall first then the left one, one at a time. They have the number advantage, so I need to play this smart.

I shuffled closer to the spider, though the thing was fast enough that even though it started racing towards me from like six feet away, I only made a quick step and a half towards it and I threw a right hook as the spider launched itself at me, with my barefist making contact with the monster and tossing it into the group of spiders that were three feet away and knocking them back, buying more time.

I felt a sudden weight and impact on my back and I realized that there was another of the things crawling to the back of my neck! I did a quick ninety degree turn and threw myself mercilessly into a wall while the monster was still climbing, crushing the thing on my back and I felt warm juices running down my back. “Gross!” I yelled out in disgust as I felt the remains of the dead creature slide down my shirt and onto the ground.

I couldn't ruminate anymore about the substances running down my back and all over my clothes however as in that moment, I saw one of the spiders launch itself at my face and out of pure boxing instinct, I ducked to the side of the spiders flying body and faced the other three spiders that were coming straight towards me and I watched them speed towards me at the speeds only olympic runners could achieve and they were upon me instantly, crawling onto my legs and leaping up to my chest.

I kicked out with my leg as one of the four giant bugs leaped into the air and I solidly impacted the incoming monster with the foreleg, that also happened to have another spider crawling up it, causing both of the monsters to collide and fall a few feet away from me while I turned my attention to the little pinching and impacts of the other two spiders crawling up from the opposite sides of my leg and I grabbed the one of the front of my leg with both hands and flung the struggling monster into a wall as hard as I could. Dropping the spider corpse, I punched the other spider as hard as I could as the spider made its way around to the front of my chest in the seconds I had smashed it brother, knocking the spider away a few feet.

I turned around quickly after realizing that the other spider that I had dodged had not come back to have another round and in the same thought, realized that the little girl was still behind me. Where the spider had landed.

Realization of my mistake quickly turned to horror as I spun and saw that the spider was crawling its way up the cyborg's chest, only held back my her hands and I rushed, grabbed one of the spiders harry legs and pulled it off the little girl, throwing it away and giving a once over to the little girl before I turned and prepared to fight the spiders once again. This time when I turned around however, I was faced with several flashlight beams of incoming guards, which the spiders seem to be rushing to take on.

I sigh in relief, any help was better than none, even if it came from my kidnapers. As the spiders ran up to the soldiers' beams, I heard the command “OPEN FIRE!” come from who was presumably the commander or leader of the squad and suddenly the hallway was full of flashes of light and the steady sound of automatic rifles as they killed the spiders with trained precision and efficacy.

As soon as the remaining spiders were dealt with, the beams of the flashlights suddenly turned on us, guns raised. “DON'T SHOOT!” I shouted out loud and I raised my hands, still standing in front of the little cyborg girl. “Get back into your cell PCS one seven seven eight three dash two!” I heard as response from the approaching soldiers and, while confused at what the heck PCS one seven seven eight three dash two was, I decided it was probably best to just get back into my cell and let the soldiers handel whatever was going on and I quickly retreated back through the hallway and into my open cell.

Soon after I had entered the cell, the door was quickly shut behind me and not very long after that, the lights went back to normal, leaving me confused, disgusted and frightened at what had happened. Was this a normal occurrence in whatever hell this place was?!
