Chapter 1: Golden Eyes

Shit.

Daniel had finally quit his old job. He had finished his studies. He was finally going to be a teacher. The job he’d been dreaming to have his whole life was only a day away from becoming his.

Then…

“Crazy shit like body possession is only supposed to happen in novels!” He whispered to the unfamiliar face in the mirror.

Daniel’s formerly short brown hair was gone. His hair had turned snow white that gleamed in gold under the light. It was long enough to fall over his forehead. His dark eyes had become a deep gold, and his fair skin was now tanned. He looked completely different.

Changing his appearance was not new to him. He had done it dozens of times before. But this was the first time his appearance changed without him knowing. Besides, it wasn’t only his face that changed. He was taller and leaner. His body was so foreign to him.

He took a deep breath and made his way back to the big canopied bed. He then took a good look around the ostentatious room. His eyes almost immediately started to get blinded by all the shiny gold and silver in the room. It wasn’t his first time seeing a room like this, but waking up in it was a first.

Daniel released a sigh and ran a hand over his face.

What in the seven hells is going on?

All of a sudden, pain lanced through his head. Memories that were not his flooded in. There were too many that he couldn’t sort out and the pain continued to become even more intense. His body tilted and he fell. When he landed on the floor, only then did he feel the other aches in his body.

He was too shocked by the transfer of soul to notice it earlier. His entire body hurt. It reminded him of that time his entire body slammed against a concrete building when his jump missed. The pain all over his body was enough to almost make him pass out.

He failed to stop a loud groan from escaping him. The moment he did, the door to his room burst open and two men and an older woman entered. The moment they saw him on the floor, the two men rushed to help him up.

Daniel was too delirious from the pain in his head and body to make out their features. However, he could hear them speaking another language. Oddly enough, he could understand them.

“Call for the Priest!” the older woman shouted. “The master has regained consciousness!”

More people rushed into the room. More voices. More faces that seemed familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. The pain. The memories continued to rush in. It was too much.

Darkness eventually embraced him.

“Master Damian!”

———

When he woke up, he was alone again. Aches were still all over his body, but it was manageable. It was embarrassing. He endured so much pain before, but he never passed out—not anymore. This was the first time he lost consciousness from pain after a very long time.

He sighed as he finished sorting out the memories. Both his and this body’s original owner.

Daniel nearly had a mental breakdown. He never really knew that he of all people could have a mental breakdown.

He didn’t just possess a body. He transmigrated into the body of a character from the novel “The Rise of Dawn.”

He entered a body of a useless extra who only appeared by name when it was uttered by the characters. The villain’s uncle. The poor guy died even before the prologue of the story.

Damian Kaige Wyndall Ammadon.

First, he needed to forget the fact that he looked completely different right now. That was the least of his worries. He needed to calm down and analyze what events led him into coming here. He tried to think.

Why me? I only read that to pass the time.

It was the day before his first day as an elementary teacher. He was so excited that time seemed to pass in an agonizing pace. So, he picked up the book his friend gave him and started to read instead.

It was honestly a horrible book. His blood kept boiling at the protagonists’ actions. He was especially angry at how they were treating the villain. The kid didn’t even do anything wrong. He was just hated for simply existing. Could those guys even be called protagonists? Could the kid even be called a villain? He couldn’t stop reading. By the end of it, he was ready to throw the entire book in the trash.

His friend probably only gave him that book just to share the frustration of it.

No.

He was sure his friend only gave that book just to share the frustration of it. The bastard was likely to do that.

After reading the book, and using a monumental amount of effort, placed it on his shelf and not in the bin. He fell into bed and was asleep in minutes. He couldn’t recall what happened after that.

“Anyway,” he whispered to the quiet room, “according to the book, this body was supposed to die on his way to Ammadon County.” It was a terrible car accident that only the driver would survive.

The real Damian Kaige Wyndall Ammadon was probably dead. But Daniel’s soul entered his body for some reason.

Also, judging from what he saw earlier, he was probably in the Ammadon mansion. According to his memories, this was this body’s room. The old woman he saw earlier was Sandra. She was the head butler of the Ammadons for nearly three generations.

He let his mind wander for a while. Even with all the training and suffering, he went through, this caught him off guard. Like anyone would train you to be prepared to transmigrate.

He examined his body and found that his ribs, head, arms, and legs hurt. He probably had a lot of broken bones. That must have been a nasty crash.

The world of “The Rise of Dawn” had magic. The Priest the Ammadon family called over probably used his on him already. He was supposed to die so he should have looked worse than he did now. It wouldn’t take him long to recover if his memories about healing magic weren’t wrong.

Why was he brought here? What was he supposed to do now? Should he find a way to go back?

Before his thoughts wandered off again, a sound came from the door.

The door became ajar and a little head of white hair peaked out. Little golden eyes similar to his current body stared at his figure on the bed. They soon opened wide when the little kid saw that he was awake.

On the outside, Daniel’s face remained calm. On the inside, however…

So cute.

He was ready to burst from the cuteness.

The little kid that was supposed to get cornered into becoming a villain.

Ezekiel Cade Wyndall Ammadon.
