Vol. 1: Chp. 4 School Life

"Tanjo, what's your Aura Sense?"

For as long as he can remember, Tanjo has been curious about his Aura Sense. He and Old Man Nozomu never went to the doctor to get him checked for anything. Nozomu watched over every illness Tanjo has ever experienced. This explains why he has never been able to become familiar with his Aura Sense. There was just never an apparent need.

"I'm actually not even sure." Tanjo answered, holding his hand up and cupping his chin gingerly in thought. Ultimately, he appeared stumped.

"Then what are you going to write on that sheet we were informed about?" Akogare questioned, tilting his head slightly as his long blonde hair swayed with the sudden movement.

"I was hoping the school would evaluate me, then maybe I could find out." Tanjo responded with an unsure tone.

"And why were you never checked?" Naderamu suddenly queried, raising a brow in curiosity. "Haven't your parents ever taken you to go check?"

"I only have one guardian, and I was never brought to a hospital, ever." Tanjo replied dumbly, causing the two blondes to nearly freeze at the statement.

"That's not safe for your health! Haven't you ever been sick!?" Akogare asked in a tone of worry and shock.

"He tended to every sickness I've ever had." Tanjo explains briefly, scratching the side of his head.

"That's strange and all, but we really have to get to class," Naderamu announces, prompting Tanjo and Akogare to glance at the nearest wall clock to check the time and find...

"IT'S 7:55!" Both students yelped.

XXX

A teacher with dark blue lengthy hair, grey eyes, who is also garbing a dark blue vest with an ink-black undershirt is seen sleeping at a long, wooden, rectangular desk in the front of a supposedly empty classroom. Only snores could be heard.

*SLAM*

The classroom door was slammed open, causing a loud noise to ring through the teacher's ears. As a result, the teacher shot up and pulled out a tachi blade, aiming the tip of the blade in the direction of the sound. Luckily, all he saw was a first-year student that was breathing heavily.

"I MADE IT!" A long-blonde-haired student exclaimed as he dashed to an unoccupied seat in the enormous classroom, followed by another student with dark black hair and indigo blue eyes.

"Did you have to slam the door open, Akogare!?" The black-haired student walked over to one of the empty seats within the classroom and yelled angrily at the male blonde-haired student.

"Look, we made it to class on time, didn't we? " With a wry grin, Akogare answered. Tanjo sighed and was ready to say something when abrupt aches of pain struck both him and Akogare on their heads simultaneously.

When both students instinctively raised their eyes to see the cause, they immediately recognized a light-haired female student. Her fists were clenched tightly in both hands, as shown by the erratic trembling. "YOU DUMBASSES!" The student with light blond hair shouted at the two males.

"Ow! Naderamu! Why!?" Akogare cried with a hand on his head, rubbing it gingerly.

"You to bozos startled the teacher!" She hollered, proceeding to point her right-hand's index finger to the teacher who was still kneeling in his chair with a sword out.

When the teacher discovered he was still in the same position, he apologized, "Oh, my mistake. I was sleeping."

Without warning, more students arrived after that was mentioned. The first student to enter was a female. The new female student had long, luxurious pink hair and had yellow cat-like eyes. Then a male student with light brown hair entered. A red line of paint could be seen traversing across one cheek, through the nose, and onto the other cheek. A final student with short white hair, blue eyes, and flashy attire emerged from the academy's hallway shortly after.

"Hello!" "Good morning!" "Sup." Each said in that order.

"Mornin'." The teacher greeted the students before fully standing up. "Before we do anything today, why don't you all introduce yourselves to one another?" The teacher suggested.

The three students blinked, glancing at each other before looking back at the blue-haired teacher. They shrugged and stood in a line, ready to formerly introduce themselves.

"My name is Senko Sukudo" The brown-haired male student with red face paint spoke formatively, his voice desolate of any apparent emotion.

"My name is Ninki Meisei" the short white-haired male acquainted himself, his voice reflecting a careless attitude.

"My name is Shizen Utsukushi, nice to meet you!" The pink-haired girl greeted lastly, smiling brightly.

Shortly after the three students introduced themselves, Akogare, Naderamu, and Tanjo did the same. When done, the students were prompted to find a seat and sit down quietly.

The teacher cleared his throat. "Alrighty, now that that's over. Why don't I ask you a question?" The teacher asked rhetorically, inhaling. "What do you know about the Aura Sense?"

Nadameru raised her hand high, courteously waiting to be called on. "An Aura Sense is created at birth, used as a sense for their magic. Each color can represent what a person could be specialized in." She answered with a confident tone.

The teacher hummed in agreement, nodding his head supportively. "Correct, but what else can be stated?"

Senko Sukudo raised his hand to answer the question.

"That no one can have more than one Aura Sense?" Sukudo stated with only half the confidence of Naderamu.

"Yes, that is true, but you're missing one thing—Aura Senses can adapt!" The teacher informed, getting confused looks from the students in return.

"What do you mean 'adapt'?" Utsukushi requested.

"The stronger you are mentally and physically, the easier your magic can be controlled. No one has infinite magic." The teacher bluntly asserts

"Oooohh" the students reply in unison, being struck with a wave of realization. "By the way, you never said your name." Tanjo remembered, jabbing a finger at the blue-vested instructor.

"Oh, yes! My name is Mr. Oshieru." The now-named homeroom teacher revealed, grinning lazily.

{20 MINUTES LATER}

"Well, can't say I expected this the first day of school." Tanjo stated bluntly, his shoulders sagging.

Mr. Oshieru had assigned a pair of students to face each other outside in the Buraunmajikku Training Field for a one-on-one battle at this time. According to the instructor, the students will fight in this order:

Naguru Akogare versus Ninki Meisei.

Apiru Nadameru versus Senko Sukudo.

Tanjo Nozomu versus Shizen Utsukushi.

"This can be used to observe one another and also to see where you are currently in combat!" Mr. Oshieru then said, his head swaying back and forth. "Another important part of this is to use your Aura Sense. Part of this is to also strengthen it. Most of you probably have a terrible tolerance for the pain you receive when overusing your magic."

"Now, may the first combatants step up!" Mr. Oshieru then commanded.

Akogare could be seen walking up to the flat ground that was surrounded by chalk in a square shape. A white-haired kid who was previously known as Ninki Meisei also walked up into the chalk with both of his hands in his pocket, a confident smirk staining his features.

Mr. Osheiru cleared his throat in preparation to speak up, "Now, have either of you fought before? Or at least trained in hand-to-hand combat before?"

"I somewhat have been." Akogare answered honestly, looking over to his teacher.

"I'm phenomenal." Meisei cockily replied, the confident smirk growing in size.

Mr. Oshieru nodded in acknowledgment. "Alright, now. When I start counting, start using your Aura Sense—it'll put your body into gear and be prepared for any use of magic." The teacher ordered, raising his index finger.

"GO!" Mr. Oshieru called out. In a split second a blue, 6-foot whip forms in Akogare's hands, along with Meisei forming a blue bow and arrow.

*SWOOSH*

An arrow is deftly fired by Ninki Meisei in the direction of Akogare. Akogare deflects the arrow and swings the whip at Meisei, encircling his arm and drawing him in. Meisei could not make another arrow in time and was forcefully dragged forward and kicked in the chest, knocking the white-haired teenager to the ground.

"AGH! Dammit!" Meisei cried as he stood up and formed an arrow, aiming it at Akogare's leg.

Meisei let go of the string of his blue bow, launching a blue arrow that painfully grazed Akogare's left leg, tearing the skin.

"AH!" Akogare curdled , now kneeling and grasping his leg.

Just as Meisei began to shape another arrow, Akogare pulled himself together and threw his whip at Meisei. As luck would have it, Akogare's whip was able to grab hold of his opponent's leg, pulling him in. After getting to his feet, Akogare stepped on Meisei, causing him to lose his breath.

Meisei stood up, swiping Akogare's foot and forming an arrow that was pointed toward Akogare's hand that held the whip. Meisei was about to shoot when Akogare lunged at him and hit him in the stomach, prompting him to retreat. Akogare then quickly swung his whip around Meisei's arm, slightly scorching his skin before swinging him out of the lines drawn by the chalk.

"Ninki Meisei is out of bounds; Naguru Akogare wins!" Mr. Oshieru declared loudly, waving his hand in the air mindlessly.

"Next on up is-"

"Apiru Nadameru versus Senko Sukudo!"
