Chapter 2 - Baby Steps

Damn it Liam damn it, why did you have to pick the mystery box, you had to choose the thing that would probably hurt you the most. This is why Mom and Dad always called you a failure. I failed then and I’m failing now. In my life I always wanted to be someone. A person who showed everyone they were wrong, someone who could be strong, not just strong for myself, but for everyone who is afraid to show their true strength. My life was over. I worked at a gas station. All I have is cheap clothing. I had given up on life. This is my chance to give it all I have so of course I’m going to try. My life might change from all this who knows. I must be the top player. I must use this opportunity to change who I am.

God there's no way I could do this challenge. I’m so out of shape it's unbelievable, let alone the fact all I own is ripped jeans and wrinkly out dated tee shirts I got at the thrift store. How am I supposed to run in this shit? I guess I have to get new stuff at the thrift. With only $20 to my name the most I can get are some beat up sneakers and some grey sweats.

Exercise sucks. My gut hurts, I'm so out of shape, and these shoes are killing me. I’ve had to have been running for like 3 hours now. I’ve only gotten through roughly seventy five miles. This is so annoying. My chest is on fire and I feel like I’m going to throw up. Wait, hold up where am I? I feel like I know this place. No way could I have gone here. I’m near my parents house. I should go say hi maybe. As much as I despise my family. They still are family.

I begin to walk up to the door. I feel a light breeze press against my face. My heart starts pounding. I begin thinking about whether or not they would like to see me. I made my decision. I get to the door and I decide to knock it.

*Knock* Knock*

The wooden door creaks as my fists come into contact, “Hey mom, dad are you there?”

I hear a soft voice come from the otherside, “Oh that must be Zeke.”

My mother swings the door open, a smile plastered on her face and she says, “Hey honey there you are. We’ve been waiting for you-.” Suddenly, she stops.

That’s weird, she's never excited to hear my voice. I thought Zeke was still in college. She's wearing the dress that Zeke got her. The rose’s printed on the fabric almost popped out at me. The frills that are on her dress make her look more elegant, so as to hide the caked on years of torment she gave me.

Her face suddenly morphs into that of disgust and anger as she spits out, “Liam? Why are you here? Last time I saw you I told you I never wanted to see you again. You're just a failure to this family. We disowned you! Get out of my sight and never come here again!”

“Mom, wait!” I yell as she starts to slam the door. I quickly stub my foot into the crack so she can’t. I need to talk to her.

“No Liam! I’m not going to wait, you are not my son. You're just another disappointment in the world.” The usual words that came out of her mouth.

I scream, “Mom!”

“No Liam! Go!” She’s telling me this to just get out of her face.

Okay, I give. I take my foot away and start my run back home. Why can’t mom just listen to me. I’m glad that I’m not a part of that family anymore. I'm going to live a life that is fit for me. Who knows I might just find a cute girl I trust, in my dreams.

With a smirk on his face, my brother says, “Oh hey loser!”

“Zeke! Why are you here!” I scream as I pass him, turning around quickly as if I was going to punch him.

“Oh unlike you I was invited to this house! You know mom and dad don’t want to talk to you right? I for sure don’t want to be caught talking to nobody like you.” He has one of those annoying high pitched laughs. He starts walking inside, obviously to avoid me. His words didn’t hurt me, it was as if a ghost flew right through my head.

“Well Zeke, that's all going to change once I get my stats up, see!” I smiled with excitement.

“What are you talking about? See what? Hey Liam, have you gone insane? Man just because you’re insane doesn't mean you have to act like it.”

My face shifts from a smile to a confused look. “What? You mean you can’t see this panel in front of me?” Wait, am I the only one who can see this?

“Yep! You’ve lost it? I mean you lost it a while ago but you fully lost it now! Man just get out of my sight! Once a loser, always a loser!” He scoffs as he keeps walking.

“I’m going to be someone and don’t come crying to me once I am someone!” I quickly ran away.

Shouting from the top of his lungs as if he had a megaphone, “Ok loser!”

I hate them. I’m going to train until I can’t train anymore!

I have about six hours left and I still have quite a bit to go, but it should be a walk in the park since I’ve gotten my stats up quite a bit.

In my mind I have always been hoping for a day like this. I know it’s selfish to be hoping for that, but I needed it. My life is so shallow. I’ve never been this happy about something. I just needed a way to erase my past. The past that was just filled to the brim with sadness. Once people need me. I’m going to change my name and help people. Thank you system for giving me my hopes and dreams back. I will change my life.

While I was going for my run I saw a clock tower. It looked shabby, there were vines all over it and moss surrounding the area. It caught my attention, but not as much as the door did. It was glowing, emanating a greenish hue. As I got close to it I noticed the tag over it. It said training room. I wanted to go in and see this training room. When I tried to open the door a notification popped up and said I needed a key to enter it. I spent an hour looking for the key everywhere. The one place I didn’t think it would be was under the welcome mat. When I opened the door, There was a blue portal and a notification popped up.

[congratulations]

You have found a hidden dungeon. [Training Room]

You will not have any sort of fatigue or pain while working out. Any quest that requires workout will expand the workout time.

Note: While you train you will not gain any stat points. But over time you will gain more stat points but will lose them once you leave.

This is a fantastic improvement. I can most definitely finish my quest now. The downside is I don’t gain any stat points for my workout. I’m going to go get food and water now because I only want to leave once.

I entered the Training Room. As I looked around inside, I see here's some workout mats and an old treadmill, which should count for running miles and there's a pull-up bar. The equipment is old, but it will do the job. Maybe I should warm-up on the pull-up bar.

As I trained in the training room. I felt fantastic. I got quicker and faster at doing my exercises. The more I did them the more I wanted to train and the more I saw flaws in the exercises. Then I realised I slowly started to earn proficiency for all the workouts. As sad as I am for losing out on stat points I’m happy for finishing most of the training. All that was left was to finish inner star training.

[Failed Inner Star Training]

I did everything right. I got in my meditative state and practiced like I did before.

It was like forming a beautiful star and watching it crumble right before your eyes.

What! No, I only have ten minutes left in my training! This can’t happen now!

Ok let's try this one more time!

[Failed Inner Star Training]

No, no, no! Please don’t do this.

I can’t get frustrated now. I need to calm down and think. Inner Star is a part of my Soul Harvester class. I held off on summoning a Grim Reaper. What if I try summoning a Grim Reaper?

Ok well there’s only one way to find out lets give this a try.

Summon Grim Reaper!

Summoning Grim Reaper 1/1

Initializing Summon. Summoning of Storm Reaper.

Completion! Successfully summoned!

I jumped with excitement. My body felt light and my face told you just one thing. That out of everything bad, this was one of the happiest days in my life.

I summoned a cool reaper. The Storm reaper is probably a good class of Grim reaper! I can’t wait to see his abilities in battle!

[congratulations]

[Liam Leon]

You are the very first person to successfully summon a grim reaper.

You have a choice to select 1 of 3 items

Common Scythe [D]

Bo Staff [D]

Orb of Life [This orb has healing effects that will give you a healing skill.]

This is a very difficult choice. I want a weapon but the skill is a missed opportunity, but at the same time how am I supposed to clear dungeons without a weapon now? Now the only question is which weapon am I going to choose? Bo Staffs are very durable. While scythes have strong attack power. Right now I need the attack power. Ok I made my choice!

I select Common Scythe!

[Rewards]

[Seven Deadly Sins Dungeon Key] [S]

[Map to king rat Dungeon] [D]

[+10 to Durability]

No way, I got a Dungeon Key, a map to a dungeon, and some stat points to durability!

I think after I get some long and well needed rest, I should check out this dungeon.
