The unlikely hero Borris
1. The summoning

1. The summoning

My name is Borris Williams and I work as a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company. I live in a cheap one room condo that I currently rent. Today was a day like any other. I get up at seven, brush my teeth, shower, iron my clothes, have a slice of toast and black coffee, and leave for work at seven thirty. That was my schedule every business day of the week. A repetitive and boring life devoid of love and friendship. Don’t feel too sorry for me, it’s not as though I’ve never experienced these things. However, somewhere along the way I got caught stuck in a rut.

Everyday I’d meet new clients, take them out and butter them up, and persuade them of the benefits of using my company’s drugs. Sometimes unscrupulous methods would be called for to make a sale. Most people would call me a charlatan selling snake oil. Either way, a man needs to work in order to eat.

Surely if god was real he’d disapprove of my life style and choices. Yet I’m alive, healthy, and have a roof over my head. If there was a god I’d question why he chooses to hundreds to die tragic deaths every day yet a grown man living a half ass life is allowed to live as he pleases.

I sigh in exasperation. I choke in hypocrisy. Lawyers, journalist, politicians, subsidised businesses, global conglomerates are drowning the common tax paying man in their bull shit. Yet I can’t claim to be any better. I spend my precious free time playing games based on fantasy. Fighting demons, zombies, dragons, untold horrors and to top it off, saving the world in the process. A simple plot, an overused plot, but a plot I’d trade my cosy crappy life for. Where even a guy like me can become a hero.

Hero –

Yes Hero, I can almost hear the word calling me out by a beautiful voice.

Hero Save Us –

Yes Yes, I’ll save you

Please answer my call and save us mighty hero –

For the last time girl, YES!!!

Where did the all the light go.

Did the sun decided to go into sleep mode?

Please wake up if you die then everything else dies too

Well, by that logic I would be dead

God I was wrong. I didn’t mean to criticise you or anything, I was just stressed from work, please forgive me!

WHOOSH!

Light suddenly blinds my eyes. I close them instinctively from the brightness. Slowly I open to see myself standing on a circular hexagram embedded on the floor, surrounded by many people dressed in medieval styled outfits inside a tall and wide throne room. In front of me I see a petite yet seductive figure fashioned in a white gown and cowl one would expect on a white mage or priestess.

“Thank the gods, you have answered our summon o great hero”

….

“Ummm hello! Hero-sama!”

What the hell!
