Bennie sat down facing opposite of me. Looking behind us just in case something unexpected comes up. "Ideas?" he bellowed. "Transport, provision, and clearly equipment," I answered logically. If we want to survive on what's ahead, we have to make sure we have food, shelter, and security covered up or we won't last long. He stood up and looked over the border town again. "There are a lot of stuff I wanna say about now but I'd rather discuss them somewhere we can be sure we're safe," Bennie said.
"Agreed," I replied. "Objectives?" I asked. "Reach the VERY edge of the town. Avoid the town center. Probably a secluded house. Make sure it's secure and recuperate. Then we will make it out as we go from there." he explained. "How long do you think Murphy comes knocking?" I asked. "Not long, but we should be gone before then," Bennie added. "We need communications after that. We need more info, Big Ben. We need to know if we are the only ones experiencing this fucked up shit or if it's the same everywhere else." I stated as a matter of fact.
"Are those people over the main highway? Why aren't they in a panic? Surely they could see some parts of the border town burning?" Abigail pointed towards the specks of people in the distance. Bennie and I just stayed quiet. "Princess. Do you want to live?" Bennie asked with a bit of grumpy undertone.
Abigail shook, a bit agape about the sudden change in Bennie's tone. "I'm Big Ben and he's Richie. You better thank him for dragging your sorry ass out of the mesa a few hours ago or you'd be 6 feet under right now." Bennie stated walking over to Abigail's face. "You better listen to your knight in shining armor and listen very well princess because what we will face down there is probably worse than we faced in the mesa. If you want to live you'll abide by our rules and we will get along just fine. Ignoring said rules will probably result in your or our untimely demise. In the instance, you unnecessarily put our lives in danger because of something stupid. SO HELP ME I'M GONNA PUT THE FEAR OF GOD IN YOU MORE THAN WHAT GOD DID TO SODOM AND GOMORRAH. Understood?" Bennie spoke to Abigail so close to her face that their nose nearly touched.
"U-Understood," Abigail answered. A bit scared of the guy.
Yeah! Bring down the hammer big guy! That's why he's the brawn. It's quite astonishing seeing Bennie pull out acts like that but I know what he's doing. He's pulling out his bad cop card. Making sure the people will rather want to listen and deal with me than to deal with him. He's setting up the podium for me so to speak, and me without even having to tell him to do it. I'm sure he knows it too. Bennie Wilson isn't buff like the gym bros you find in your TifTof videos but the guy is well-built. You can see it in his posture, way of walking, and even speaking. This guy is tough and knows how to fight too. Be it street fights. Fight dirty or don't fight at all. Maximum violence. That is Bennie's motto. If I ever fight Bennie in alleyways or streets? I'd have rather fight a bear instead, That's how scary he is if he goes unhinged in the street fights we had when we were in early college.
Be it a piece of metal or a shard of glass. He will use it as a weapon to put the fear of god in you for even thinking of fighting him. I saw him fighting 6 people, the same height as he was. After a good drinking session with the boys, we got into a bit of trouble with some other group. Do you think he'll get beaten to a pulp? No, he ran towards an alleyway. Narrow enough for one person to walk through and stood there. Hiding a piece of broken glass bottle between his fingers. He wrapped up his right hand with a piece of cloth he clearly took from the bar and hid the glass shard there. Goading the other 6 to fight within the narrow space. The other party as foolish as they were, attacked said person.

Sure Bennie was quite beaten but not as the 6 guys sprawling in front of him. 6 people covered with bruises and cuts not deep enough to be identified as an assault, lay sprawled and in agony and pain after the fight. After being interrogated by the police, he is to be arrested for assault only for the police officer to grab the other 6 instead after I showed him the video I took. Uncut from start to finish. I knew I wasn't gonna be a help from that fight instead I did the best thing I could at that time. Record the fight to make sure the assholes won't have the excuse to blame it all on my best friend.
All in all, there is no one I trust watching my back than Bennie. Like I always do.
"Alright." I stepped between Abigail and Bennie. "Abigail. You'll be behind Big Ben. Whatever he tells you to do, you follow. Do not ask questions, do not deviate. You understand?" I commanded Abby. " If you notice anything that is important or if you need something. Tap his shoulders SLOWLY. Do not shout. Maybe whisper but not before you tap his shoulder. If shit hits the fan follow his voice and stick to him like glue. Got it?" I explained a bit firmly. "I'll be behind you watching our backs. The same rules apply. Got it?" I added.
"I got it," Abigail replied and nodded. She walked towards Bennie who was looking over the border town in the distance. Probably memorizing the lay out of the town.
I was about to say we might just get through this when I heard a moan.. not a moan but a raspy voice behind me. Then the hairs on my neck stood up. I stumbled forward planting my face first on the sandy hill. I rolled over to get a good look at what was going to grab me from behind. "BE!" I was about to shout at Bennie when suddenly he ran straight towards the person who was in front of me now and kicked her right in the chest. No fancy posture like you see on tv. Just straight-up brute strength. No questions asked. No mercy. Just straight-kick her, and kicked her hard he did.
The threat flew at least a good 3 feet away from Bennie. The person or looked like a person staggered like a puppet after it's strings were cut. A 30 year old looking fat woman you see rolling down some subdivision thinking like they own the goddamn place lay sprawled like a ragdoll in front of us. Wearing a bloody violet cordial dress which looks absolutely horrible on the woman.
"You okay?" Bennie asked. Never letting his eyes off the threat even for a second. A good habit. "I'm good!" I replied. " Abigail, stay back and watch out for other surprises." I called to Abigail. She was clearly shaken but managed a nod. "Threats?" Bennie asked. Looking over the fat fucker who was slowly standing up like she had all the time in the world.
I looked around, seeing no one "Just that one." I replied clearly to Bennie. I just had to jinx it. Fuck. Murphy nearly got me there. Nearly got me there good.
I really need to keep my thoughts to myself.
