NIGHT HUNT
The night where I would prove my skill finally came. I was dressed and ready to go, even though it was night.
"Tonight, we will find Umbra and slay them, this is the best way to learn the types and how to best combat them. Are you ready, Joey?" Rafael asked with a face that made it apparent how serious he was being.
"Yes, I am ready Rafael. I have been waiting for this very moment since I started learning from you."
"Good, keep your guard up." He said as he opened a portal. The view in the portal was a place I had never seen, but it was a city. He walked in and I followed him, taken by the many towering buildings, but silent roads. The roads looked as if they could fit hundreds of cars, but there wasn't a single on in sight, which made this place unnerving.
Rafael wasted no time in pulling his weapons out, so I followed his lead and kept my eyes peeled. Soon enough, I saw a small Umbra down the road, Rafael walking that direction left me to keep the back so that we couldn't be ambushed by the umbra.
Rafael quickened his pace and we caught up with the umbra. We swapped positions and I sliced the Umbra, ending things as quickly as I could. While is was dying it was screaming.
"You have to kill it!" Rafael snapped and stabbed the Umbra in the head, silencing it. "That scream will attract more umbra."
"Got it." I brought my eyes to the road, now seeing the Umbra that were called to our location.

"The umbra that you just killed was a screamer, and now, down the road, it a flesh mound. Be careful to about the fluid it sprays."
I took in what he said and made sure to keep my eye on the approaching Umbra. As it came closer I cut off the tentacles it had coming near me. I pulled a steel shield off of my back, in preparation for dealing with the fluid it was starting to spray.
"Go for the kill." Rafael commanded.
I thrust towards the center that was now exposed and the flesh mound looked like it was deflating before it was no longer moving.
"Good kill." The confirmation from Rafael made it clear that I didn't mess up. “There are more.”
Just as quickly as I turned back there were already others. The umbra were of varying sizes, but the big ones were the first to catch my attention.
I quickly used the shield to block the fluid that was being spewed about, and I put my sword through the several smaller screamers. As I was preparing to go at the larger umbra, my feet were pulled from under me, bringing me straight to the ground and knocking the air from my lungs. I chopped the many handed limb until it no longer had control over my leg, while Rafael covered for me.
“Do not lose sight of their limbs, they aren’t as dumb as we would love to think.” Rafael said as he cleaved the screamers that were in front of him into various bits and pieces.
I got back off the ground with my attention on what all was in front of me. The umbra had a strategic layout, screamers upfront, smaller flesh mounds in the middle, and larger flesh mounds at the back. The Larger ones at the back were spraying fluids from a vantage point, so they became my primary focus. I went to the side and killed some of the smaller flesh mound, giving me access to the large flesh mounds from one side. I had no hesitation when it came to finding the cores of the mound and killing them just as quick.
As the large flesh mounds started to vanish, Rafael kept the screamers in check, which left me with enough time to kill off the rest of the flesh mounds. The opening made ease as I continued to mow through the rest of the flesh mounds.
“Good Job, don’t lose your guard, again, and you will make a fine hunter.” Rafael signaled our victory with his critique of my performance. “Now, we go back to safety.”
“Alright,” I cleaned off my blades before putting them back in the sheath, and hung the shield on my back.
