Chapter 9J: A hero we deserve. (April Fools)

Joharis stood in the dimly lit temple, the cool stone floor beneath his feet sending a shiver up his spine. A mysterious game window floated before him, flickering like a ghostly apparition. He hesitated, trying to process the information displayed.

“So, my class is... Dance-Off Hero?” Joharis said with a nervous chuckle. He glanced around the temple, trying to gauge whether anyone else found it as ridiculous as he did.

The high priest, peered at Joharis curiously. “Indeed, young hero. It seems the dance goddess has chosen to bestow her blessing upon you. Embrace it, for her power will guide you on your journey.”

Joharis’ brow furrowed as he bit his lip, tasting the salty tang of his own uncertainty. The air around him felt heavy, imbued with a strange energy that stirred an inexplicable desire to move his body in rhythm. Could it be the presence of the dance goddess?

He glanced at Jezebel, who had been silently observing the exchange. Her eyes sparkled with a mix of fascination and amusement. “Well, Joharis, I must say this is... unexpected,” she said, a delicate blush spreading across her cheeks. “But it might be interesting to see you dance.”

King Verlon III smiled warmly at Joharis and Jezebel. “Go on then, you two. Enjoy your time in the capital and don’t forget to show dem moves to common folk.”

“Thank you, Father,” Jezebel replied, her eyes shining with excitement. She turned to Joharis, her hand lightly touching his arm. “Shall we?”

As they exited the temple, the sun warmed their faces, casting long shadows on the cobblestone streets. The sound of laughter and music filled the air, as a troupe of bards engaged in a lively performance nearby.

Jezebel turned to Joharis, a playful grin on her face. "Shall we give your new powers a try? It could be... enlightening."

Joharis hesitated, the rhythm of the music seeping into his bones. He glanced at the bards, their feet moving effortlessly in time with the melody, and felt a spark of inspiration. "Why not? Let's see what these sick dance moves can do."

As Joharis and Jezebel approached the troupe, the bards welcomed them with open arms, creating a circle around the two. The scent of roses and sweat filled the air, as they found themselves in the centre of attention.

The music reached a crescendo, and Joharis felt a surge of energy coursing through his body. He began to dance, his movements fluid and graceful, as if guided by an unseen force. Jezebel, too, found herself swept up in the moment, her laughter as sweet as the melody that carried them.

As they danced, the crowd cheered and clapped, creating a whirlwind of sound and emotion. The world seemed to fade away, leaving only the rhythm of their heartbeats and the rush of blood in their ears.

But as the dance continued, a sense of unease crept over Joharis. His instincts whispered a warning, telling him that something was amiss, a cacophony of fangirl screams could be heard echoing through the city. Startled, Joharis turned his gaze to the source of the commotion, only to find a charismatic figure striding towards him.

“Dropp Debit!” Jezebel whispered, her eyes widening in surprise. “He’s the most famous bard in the kingdom!”

Joharis hadn’t noticed the bard’s arrival, so absorbed had he been in his dance with Jezebel. Dropp Debit was flamboyantly dressed, with a mane of flowing hair that seemed to have a life of its own. He strode confidently through the parting crowd, a lute slung across his back, and locked eyes with Joharis.

“So, you’re the Dance-Off Hero, huh?” Dropp’s voice carried an air of playful challenge, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “I’ve heard the rumours, and I must say, I’m intrigued. How about a dance-off, you and me? Winner takes the title of the kingdom’s greatest dancer.”

Joharis hesitated, feeling the weight of the onlookers’ anticipation pressing down on him. But as he glanced at Jezebel and saw the supportive smile on her face, he felt a surge of determination.

“Very well, Dropp Debit,” Joharis said, his voice steady. “I accept your challenge.”

The crowd erupted in cheers, and the two combatants took their positions. As the music began, it was clear that this would be no ordinary dance-off. The air seemed to crackle with energy, and the very ground beneath their feet seemed to pulse in time with the beat.

Dropp Debit moved with the grace and precision of a master, his every step perfectly timed and executed. His fingers danced across the strings of his lute, weaving a melody that captivated the hearts of all who heard it. His movements were like liquid fire, leaving a trail of enraptured spectators in their wake.

But Joharis was not to be outdone. The blessing of the dance goddess flowed through him, guiding his every step, every leap, every spin. As he danced, the energy within him seemed to expand, filling him with a boundless sense of joy and freedom.

The two dancers wove a tapestry of movement and sound, their bodies intertwining and separating, each striving to outdo the other. At times, their movements were so perfectly synchronized that they seemed to become one, a single entity of grace and power that held the crowd in thrall.

As the dance-off reached its climax, Dropp Debit and Joharis moved with the desperation of warriors locked in a battle to the death. Sweat beaded on their brows, their muscles quivering with the effort of their exertions. The air around them seemed to shimmer with the force of their movements, as if reality itself was bending to accommodate their will.

In the final moments of the dance-off, Dropp Debit launched into a breath taking series of acrobatic leaps, twisting and turning in mid-air, his lute singing a hauntingly beautiful melody. But Joharis countered with a series of lightning-fast spins, his body blurring into a whirlwind of motion, the power of the dance goddess surging through him.

The atmosphere was tense as the crowd awaited the outcome of the dance-off. It seemed almost impossible to determine a victor, as both Joharis and Dropp Debit had displayed incredible skill and artistry. However, as the final notes of the music hung in the air, it became apparent that Joharis had managed to pull off a thrilling last-minute manoeuvre, tipping the balance in his favour.

The onlookers erupted in cheers and applause as Joharis was declared the winner, their voices echoing through the city like a thunderous wave. Dropp Debit, though momentarily crestfallen, quickly recovered and approached Joharis, extending his hand in a gesture of goodwill.

“Well played, Dance-Off Hero,” Dropp said, a newfound respect gleaming in his eyes. “I never imagined I would meet a dancer who could match my skill, let alone surpass it.”

Joharis grasped Dropp’s hand, feeling a surge of camaraderie. “You’re an incredible dancer, Dropp. It was an honour to share the stage with you.”

Dropp’s eyes sparkled with determination as he addressed Joharis. “I have a proposal for you, Joharis. I’ve heard of your quest to defeat the Demon Queen Evilian and her Seven Dancely Sins. I wish to join you and lend my abilities to your cause. Together, we can vanquish them in a dance-off for the ages!”

Joharis looked at Dropp, surprised by the bard’s offer, and then glanced at Jezebel, who nodded her approval. He smiled, realizing that with Dropp Debit’s expertise, their chances of success would only increase.

“We would be honoured to have you join us, Dropp,” Joharis said, clapping the bard on the shoulder. “Together, we’ll save this world through the power of dance.”

And so, their unlikely alliance was forged, as the Dance-Off Hero and the renowned bard Dropp Debit joined forces. Little did they know the extraordinary adventures and challenges that awaited them, as they embarked on their quest. The stage was set for an epic showdown that would be remembered for generations to come.
