Chapter 3

Chapter 3

We continued walking the path covered with a mixture of fallen leaves and branches out of the forest. Somehow, I felt a sense of security from Jake as he leads me through this path. It was quite amusing as I was terrified of him when we met a while ago. I am still clueless on where we are heading but it would probably be a safer place than the forest. This forest is called the 'beast's den" and is known to be one the four dangerous areas near the Magnus Kingdom.

The reason for the forest to be called the "Beast's den" is that there are rumors that a high-grade beast lived deep in the forest. When I heard the rumors near the Pub, I was skeptical of it. However, I heard of reports of adventurers who ventured into the depths of the forest have mysteriously disappeared. Chills went down my spine as I heard the reports.

As we walked down the path, Jake started a conversation on what we are going to do now. To summarize what he said, the ranks of a mage goes on an ascending order from grade F, E, D, C, B, A, S to the highest rank of a mage, grade SS. This reflects the ability of the mage from performing the lowest tier magic, tier 1 magic, to the highest tier magic, tier 8 magic. Jake will be training me the way of the swordsman as it is what he specializes. There is a separate ranking system for a swordsman and it is way simpler than the mage. The ranks of a swordsman go from the lowest rank, grade 1, to the highest rank, grade 8. A grade 8 swordsman is someone who can be the pinnacle of the world.

However, there is no grade 8 swordsman that has appeared in the last thousand years. This is similarly applied to the highest-grade mage. It is extremely rare to see a grade S mage or a grade 7 swordsman. The reason for high grade mage and swordsman being rare are because of the scarce high-grade techniques.

We finally arrived at our destination which is a cave in the depths of the forest. Wait, a cave? In the depths of the forest...is this the cave of that high-grade beast?! I thought we are walking towards the exit of the forest, since when we are in depths of the forest. I started to sweat profusely as I stare at the empty cave filled with darkness.

Is this guy INSANE?!Are you looking to die so badly?

I turn my eyes to see the expression on his face. He was brimming with confidence as he stares into the cave. At that very moment, a loud roar came from behind us.

Is this the end of us?

We sprinted away from the beast to gain some distance from it. The high-grade beast was a scarlet bear which can be identified with their spiky red fur. The scarlet bear bares his sharp fangs towards us as he charged.

A bright light shined, and the scarlet bear was cut into half. I was dumbfounded as I saw the nicely cut bear and blood began to leak from the guts. I looked at the red-haired man that stood beside the bear. A grade 5 beast was cut into half, my mind was blown from this.

What grade is he at?

"I'm a grade 6 swordsman." He said as if he read my mind.

"This is where we are staying to train you."
