CHAPTER FIVE: RANKING.

A week passed and Shuu didn’t attempt his 190-mile marathon again, for now. He continued with his normal indoor exercises. He decided to check his stats for detailed figures on any improvement he has made so far.

----------------------------------------

Shuu had studied his classmates, especially the ones that indulge themselves fully in sports, and compared them with professionals at the peak of the various sports they played and came up with a rough stat book of the humans in the Tokyo ghoul world.

These were the stats of a peak professional athlete;

Durability (3.9%) Strength (3.8%) Agility (4.0%) Endurance (3.8%) Stamina (3.9%).

He also remembered how strong the ghoul investigators were in the CCG. The CCG is an organization created to counter and defend humans against ghouls. It is not a stretch to call them (CCG investigators) superhuman at all. They fought with creatures that were faster, stronger, and worst of all they could come back to their peak form from most casual to serious injuries fully healed! They had tech on their side but their most cherished treasure was their knowledge of these creatures called ghouls which was passed down, improved, and worked on amongst investigators and in the academy of course.

With that in mind, Shuu also remembered some fearsome ghouls that could claim a large part (ward) of Japan for themselves. Ghouls existed everywhere in the world and each country had their method of approach to dealing with them. The Germans were known to be brutal and would use any means necessary to eradicate their ghouls. The United States was known for developing high-level anti-ghoul tech to help the investigators invoke the fear of God into their ghouls as well as capturing and using high-rated ghouls in combat and research.

The Japanese Ghouls, however, were built to threaten entire sovereignties. Other world powers would love to help Japan and reap some profits, but even with their methods and techniques, they’d still want to avoid losing well-trained personnel and worst of all their secrets and technology to the Japanese Ghouls. Most world powers had given Japan fifteen years before the ghouls took over completely.

Shuu’s stat sheet for ghoul investigators looked like this;

----------------------------------------

Rank 1 investigators can’t take on an A-rated Ghoul and higher alone. Durability (6-8%) Strength (5-9%) Agility (5-7%) Endurance (5-6%) Stamina (5-9%)

First-class investigators can take on C-S ranked Ghouls alone or in a group with rank 1 subordinates or with first-class investigator partners.

Durability (20%) Strength (19.4%) Agility (17.6%) Endurance (19.2%) Stamina (19.7%).

Associate Special Class investigators can take on S and SS-rated ghouls alone or in groups but handle SSS-rated Ghouls in groups.

Durability (28%) Strength (27.5%) Agility (20%) Endurance (24.3%) Stamina (26%).

Special classes are the next thing before Arima Kishou’s level and can usually take on an SS-rated ghoul alone and SSS-rated ghouls in groups headed by their peers with the associate special class as subordinates. The stats below are exclusively Arima Kishou’s stat, other peak special classes like him have a stat lower or equal to that of an SS-ranked ghoul.

Durability (70%) Strength (78%) Agility (79%) Endurance (75%) Stamina (79%).

----------------------------------------

The above stats are for investigators at the peak of their physicality. Those who aren’t as physical use their battle IQ to make up for it. And their battle IQ varies with each rank.

Anyway, Shuu also drew a stat sheet for ghouls rated A-SSS. He figured anything under A wasn’t his concern since the combat-type ghouls in the Tsukiyama household namely; Mairo, Matsumae, and Kanae were at the early stages of the A rank currently but would later reach the peak of the A rank with the exception of Matsumae reaching the peak of S rank later and Kanae also attaining S rank status (She eventually attains SS rank status after she was captured in the original story) but not at the peak and Yuuma reaching the peak of A rank as well buthe is currently under A rank.

This is what his sheet stat for ghouls looked like;

----------------------------------------

A rank Ghouls: Durability (18%) Strength (18.6%) Agility (19%) Endurance (17%) Stamina (20%).

S rank Ghouls: Durability (25.6%) Strength (23%) Agility (22.4%) Endurance (22%) Stamina (24%).

SS ranked Ghouls: Durability (33%) Strength (39.3%) Agility (30.6%) Endurance (36%) Stamina (38%).

SSS ranked Ghouls: Durability (48%) Strength (59.3%) Agility (50%) Endurance (56%) Stamina (59%).

----------------------------------------

The above stats are for ghouls who are at the peak of their ranks.

As of now, Shuu was barely at the peak of the A rank. Nishiou and Touka at this time are still at the peak of a B-rank ghoul and are slowly reaching the A rank.

Shuu came back home from school and saw a big package in front of his room with Matsumae at the side.

“Shuu-sama, the customized weighted jeweled ornaments you asked for are here in this brown box.” Matsumae said as she gestured to the box.

“Ho, let’s have a look shall we?” Shuu said as he helped Matsumae lift the box inside his room and dropped it. It was just heavy but not Impossible for two A-rank ghouls (but not peak rank A) to lift 1,400kg. Matsumae had help from Aliza and Yuuma to lift the box from the delivery truck, all the way upstairs in front of Shuu’s room.

Shuu opened the box and saw fourteen black circular rings that had specific widths and magnetic poles to open and close.

“Shuu-sama, if I may ask, what are these for?” Matsumae asked with a concerned look.

“From today onwards; Aliza, Yuuma, Kanae, Mairo, and you will wear at least one bracelet on your being at all times.” Shuu commanded.

“May I know why?” Matsumae asked.

“You’ll know soon.” Shuu said as she departed with five black bracelets as if they weighed nothing but in truth they hindered her walking speed by a lot as she shut the door behind her with great effort.

“The goal now is to attain peak SS rank in no more than two years since I am sixteen years old right now.” Shuu said as he put a bracelet on his left and right wrists respectively and his right and left ankle as well.

“It’s really hard to move with four hundred kilograms.” Shuu said as he managed to walk to his bed and sleep.

He woke up to his alarm at nine o’clock in the night and got off his bed. His body was a little accustomed to the weight as he removed all his clothing except for his boxers and attempted his regular indoor exercises of a thousand push-ups of different variations, a thousand sit-ups, a thousand squats, and a thirty-minute plank hold.

Shuu soon found out he could only max out a hundred push-ups and needed a five-minute rest before he continued. He repeated the same process for most of his exercises by doing 10 sets of 100 reps. After his exercise, he had a bath and was about to head to his balcony in his bathrobe when he heard a knock on his door. Before he answered the door he smelt something familiar. Something delicious.

“Shuu-sama, you haven’t eaten today. Here is a light snack since it’s so late.” Matsumae said holding a plate of ‘food’. She had decided to wear her bracelet as an anklet so as not to disturb her day-to-day activities in the mansion.

“I am fine, have a good night's rest tonight Miss Matsumae.” Shuu said with a smile as he looked into Matsumae's eyes with a deep gaze that caused Matsumae to look away immediately.

“Alright then… Goodnight Shuu-sama.” Matsumae said as she left.

Shuu hadn’t eaten anything that day but drank only water. Shuu wanted to push his ghoul body past its threshold to see what lies beyond.

Shuu closed the door and yawned lazily as he went to the balcony and observed Mairo walking outside with his bracelet on. He relished the cool breeze he got from the balcony and was thinking about the legend, the strongest person in the world right now-Arima Kishou.

Arima Kishou is a failed half-ghoul but gained enhanced senses and physical abilities. He is strong enough to clear an entire ward of ghouls just by the utterance of his name.

Shuu knew that he needed to consume more human flesh to increase the strength and durability of his kagune. But increasing the strength of his kagune doesn’t outrightly mean increasing its proficiency. For example, someone like Miss Matsumae didn’t eat a lot like Shuu did but her proficiency in using her kagune was leagues above Shuu.

He had an idea of what he wanted his kagune to be like, but first, he wanted to sculpt his body into one that could take on Arima Kishou without worry. Arima is insanely strong, that any ghoul that comes across him understands they would meet their death if they weren’t strong enough to escape; any attempt to fight him is the same as suicide. Hence, why he was given names like the Grim Reaper, CCG’s Reaper, white reaper, and so on.

Tomorrow the weekend starts.

It was Saturday morning and Shuu had just finished his exercise and had his bath. He summoned Aliza, Yuuma, Mairo, Kanae, and Matsumae to his room. They were a bit nervous but wanted to know why he needed them in his room.

To be continued.
