Interlude: From the perspective of gods

The array of computer screens illuminated the face of the 68-year-old man in an otherwise dark room. To his side sat a woman around his age sipping a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

"It really all plays out exactly how I remember it." The man stated, in a disinterested manner.

The woman took another deep sip of her coffee. "I'm not sure what else you were hoping for. Everything is going exactly how it should be, and our stressful part of the work is done. Now we only have to wait a few years until it's finished. We even had too many mana injections prepared."

"I guess that's true. But just watching them for all this time gets kind of boring pretty quickly, especially if you already know all the story."

"You've always been like that – just wanting to get into action and never taking the rational approach. You should try to relax a little. We've both been working on this for all these years, and we've finally made it to our goal."

"You know – Even when we now achieve our goal. I've long lost our reason for doing this out of sight. But if it makes you happy, then I'm satisfied, too. – I'll take a short trip to the supermarket."

With these words, shining 3D runes appeared around him and he teleported away.

"The objective has always been the same, dummy." The woman talked to herself absentmindedly. "Knowledge. Because knowledge is power."
