Prologue: The Titanium Knuckle

In this world, beings called Demons are a blunt truth of reality. They walk among the normal everyday people and most like to cause trouble for the rest of us but not all. Most of the time it's trivial matters best suited to ignore than confront, such as breaking an inexpensive vase or tripping you as they walk past. But every so often, they decide to have a little bit too much fun and go too far. This, now forbidden but still secretly practiced, taboo has been labeled as a Paranormal Hybridization. This is the practice of a Demon essentially embedding part of its power in an unborn fetus. The child is then born depicting a physical aspect of that demon relating to the power that the child was given. For instance, if the Demon has the power to freely control fire, then the child will typically have jet black hair with bright red ends that turn yellow then black as you travel the length of their hair or small 1 to 2 inch long blazing red horns. Whether the child has a physical aspect of the power or horns, depends on how great the amount of power the Demon has given the unborn child. 

Depending on what the clan the Demon is from, determines their abilities and what color and shape their horns are. There are currently only 7 Demon clans. The Svarogs, who can freely control fire, are the largest and most widely feared for their tendency to be extremely violent towards people. They sport bright red horns that protrude from the front of their forehead and grow to be around a foot and a half. The Drekavacs, who are said to be able to see people's souls and rip them from their bodies, are said to be extinct but rumored to have one final group living somewhere in the Himalayan mountain range. They have a small sequence of white, 5 centimeter horns above their eye typically numbering from 3 to 5 horns. The Bagienniks, who are able to freely control water, are known for their surprising kindness and generosity shown towards humans. They have 2 wide, black horns that curl forward like a rams. The Stuhać, whom have the ability of rock manipulation, are the largest and most common Demon clan. They sport a ridge of gray horns ranging from 2 to 4 inches in height along the top of their heads. The Dzydzilelya, who not only can control the human mind by utilizing their extreme beauty, have extreme regenerative capabilities, are feared for their vast human trafficking empire. They have four 5 inch horns that come out of the top of their head and curl backwards. The Porwits, who can manipulate plant growth to the extreme, are known for their large reforestation programs. These Demons sport a dark green horn usually around 4 inches coming directly from the middle of their forehead. And lastly the Rarógs, who have the ability to control the winds, are vastly known to just be a mischievous bunch with the only goal to make someone's day just a little bit worse. These Demons actually don't have horns but a ridge of sulfur yellow spikes running down their spine.

I am a product of a Paranormal Hybridization done by a Drekavac. The rest of the world is quite prejudice against the Demons and us Hybrids. They've created organizations called Demon Genetics Research Facilities or DGRFs for short. These facilities are meant to house Hybrids and implement them into the population by giving them jobs that effectively use their strengths. These jobs can include anything from being a full time bodyguard or a menial task like a fisherman. I was given the task of being a full time bodyguard along with my training partner. She is the Hybridization product of a Dzydzilelya. In this facility, we are stripped of our identities and given a title called a calling card. Our title can be determined by a number of factors but for bodyguards it is determined by either our fighting style or weapon of choice. My calling card is The Titanium Knuckle due to the fact I use armored titanium gauntlets. My partner is known by the alias Lead Barrage due to her adeptness with almost any firearm. Due to the lengths of our calling cards we have resorted to nicknames. My name is Fist and my partner is Ruger.
