Why do only I have that much luck?

“Yeah, yeah, I’m sorry, but there was an urgent need to do that” the giant beast-like god continued, “I’ll get scolded by your god for that, but nonetheless, I’m gonna reincarnate you in my world as son of the demon king, who is going to stop the war between humans and demons.”

“Why me? Why couldn’t it be anyone else?” I asked suspiciously.

“Because only you had the potential. I spectated you for a while now and came to the conclusion that only you could do it. But don’t worry, I will grant you three powers of your choosing to help you out in my world. Also you are going to have a ‘different’ body to help you adapt and make peace with both races”

Questions came to my mind, why did I have the potential, what kind of changes will my body have, what will happen to my memories, so I asked him all of these. Well, I wasn’t really expecting good answers, which turned out to be denied.

“As far as the potential goes, that’s easy, every living being has a soul density, the denser your soul is, the purer your heart. That’s what we gods call potential. About the body changes, let’s just say you will have to get used to it. Regarding your memories, I will let you keep your memories, well, all except the ones regarding your family and friends on Earth. I hope that answered all your questions, now let’s get to business, what powers do you wish for?”

I really didn’t know what to wish for, but then it crossed my mind, “I want to have a Leveling and Skill System just like video games in my world, then I want to be able to see into the hearts of people to know if they’re being honest or have plans to betray man and lastly…”, I wanted to continue, but then I realized I didn’t know what I was gonna wish for, eternal life? No, that was too boring. Flying? Nope, didn’t really want that, because demons usually have wings to fly with, then it struck me! “I want intensified senses, I mean like sensing stuff around me or hearing and smelling better”

The god looked kinda bored by my answers, but then he sat down on his chair behind him and said “Well if it is that what you wish for, you will get it, just for your information, the Leveling System will only be able to be used by you, even though the people in my world have a similar power measuring method.”

The only thing I still didn’t understand, why me? I bet there are a lot more people with a similar potential as mine, I was just a regular teenage boy, who loved Anime and Gaming. As far as my love life goes, well, let’s just say I was so unwanted that I paid a prostitute to get me rid of my virginity.

As we saw, my luck didn’t even allow me that. But what’s most important now, I couldn’t sort my feelings. I felt anger, sadness, excitement, hell even adventure/lust. “Rinus, you said was your name? Can you do me one last favour?”, I asked the beast-like god.

With a grumpy face he told me ”You have used all your wishes, so I won’t give you anything else on your journey”

“No, that’s not what I want, if you have a way of doing so, let me call one last person on earth I need to say goodbye to”

He sighed and told me “*sigh* Ok, you get five minutes, also you are not allowed to tell anything about me or my world, also the person can not answer you, it will appear just like they had a dream to them”

After he said that, suddenly something like a phone, but shaped like a brain appeared. He told me to put it on, so I did. Apparently it worked like telepathy, I could just think about who I want to call, and what I wanted to say

Laura I thought myself I’m sorry I left you alone, I died while I was saying that I felt tears rolling down my cheeks. In a stutter thought I continued I love you, I always did but I never felt the courage confessing to you, because I didn’t want your friendship to end. Please, don’t forget me. The time I truly die from earth is the moment everybody forgets I existed. I didn’t have a good relationship with my parents, they never truly loved me. As I was the only one there for you, so were you the only one there for me and I hoped that would never end. I’m sorry, goodbye… I thought as the brain was slowly vanishing from my head as I came closer to the five minute mark.

“Time’s up, the last thing I want to warn you about before reincarnating you is, to never truly trust anyone besides yourself and your loved ones, Well then, time to go”, he said, as I felt my body dissipating in light.

While my body was slowly vanishing in the dark void the god greeted me in, I saw the face of the god forming a sincere smile, while hearing his final words “Good Luck Boy, we will meet again.”
