Here I was, back on a carriage again, although this time I knew what was axpecting me.. sort of. Uncle told me we were going east, at first over land, later by ship. It would take us about 5 days to reach the coast, and we had two days remaining. The weather was good so far, mostly sunny and dry. I was together with Elea, we were reading a book about the city in the sky. IT was more of a legend really, but that´s what she loved, story´s of heroes and their struggles. They were... interesting, although not really my cup of tea, but she enjoyed my company when she was reading, and I enjoyed hers. She had lost her mother when she was young, and never really got over it. In a way I was a brother for her, a role I was more than willing to take over. I would put my arm around her, feeling her warmth, calming my heart. Uncle didnt mind us sticking together. He once told me that I`m a good person at heart. I dont know why he would trust me, a stranger. I wouldnt trust myself, and my heart was certainly not a good one. Pain and anger was still remaining in my heart. My emotions could only be covered up, but not be forgotten.
As I was lost in my thoughts, Elea fell asleep. I carefully layed her down, and joined the guards, walking besides the carriages. THey would tell story´s, not made for young womans ears, not story´s of heroes and good deeds, but deeds that had to be done, bloody fights and hot nights in the capital. In these regions, they told me, it was peacefull relaxed. If you would travel half a year in the north-eastern direction, cross the mountains, the plains and endless forrests, you would reach the dammend lands, where demons lived, people, disfigured, some with 3 arms, 6 fingers per hand, blind, swollen bodies, mutations and freaks of nature. If you stayed there for long enough, the land would make you weak, turn you into a monster as well.
These and others storys filled my mind, confirming yet again, that it would be best to just stay back in Remus, train, study and have a good life. Why seek knownledge, chase legends if ultimately death would await?
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
Two days later we reached the city Novus, which had a port even bigger than the one in Remus. Ships with two or even three masts anchored there, and seagulls filled the sky as some fisherman unloaded their catch. The streets were filled with carriages, chariots and people. Everywhere people would shout and praise their goods and services, but Uncle lest with us the caravan, after saying goodbye to everyone, and told us to get 2 rooms in an inn close to the harbour. We would leave tomorrow by ship. We did as told. Uncle and Elea would sleep in one room, and me as well as another guard, an old man called Kain, who had a frightening talent with throwing knifes.
The next morning clouds covered the sky, as we embarked on the ship. It was a medium sized vessel with 2 masts and 3 decks. We once again had 2 rooms with hammocks. They were odly comortable, but I remained on the deck, watching the coast behind us vanish. Uncle stood besides me, looked at me, smiling, and asked: Aren´t you exited? Your first real adventure, who knows what´ll await you, what´ll await us. I have read storys of a black city in the mountainrange of Bylon. I really hope we´ll get to see it. You see, i purchased this old metal tablet with some descriptons of it. Well, at least I think what´s what it is...
He would continue like this for hours. Who can blame him. He found what he loved, and he managed to be able to just do that. Lucky him.
