E11 - An Open Book (6)

"You ever seen this before, Nay?" Alix grunted, as he crossed his arms.

"It reminds me of something, but it's definitely not the Rod of Asclepius,"

- (that weird medical snake thing) -

"way too sinister for that. It's like they just wanna scream that they're evil.

"Oi, Rik-head!" Ryan shouted, as he slapped a blonde, red-bandana clad young man awake.

"Who the polx are you? And what the polx is this shilk?" (gesturing to the mysterious symbol on the back of his hand).

"You don't deserve to know my name, you impure anomaly. How about you show me some respect and call me "sir"," he spat venomously.

"Some respect?! Why you-" Ryan started furiously, as he raised his fist.

『Thud』

"Cool off, Ryan," I formed, after I caught his blow and stared at him, firmly, in his watery eyes. Taking a breath, he nodded softly and turned away - raising his phone to his ear as he walked the guilt off.

"Sorry about him, sir," I formed with a soft smile, "he's quite frazzled after we... fell. How about we start over? I'm Janet, a member of the 『Synchronization Project's』 team 13. Could you tell us who you guys are, and why you're after the Professor here?"

"Of course, darling. I am part of an organisation called the 『Evolution Protocol』 and we're a collective of like-minded individuals who simply want to cure the world - hence our brand here," his eyes stopped looking at me like a hunk of meat for a second to salivate over the symbol on his hand.

"You see, we took inspiration from that symbol that doctors use, but sometimes offence is the best defence (as you beautifully showed against White Ed), so we added a dagger instead of a rod.

And as for the professor, HIS research simply poses a threat to our world. Surely someone as... strong as you can understand that if we use the growth path to baby all of the weaklings, our species will grow weaker - the gene pool will become diluted. They'll all become mentally-ill freaks, like HIM," he snarled.

I wanted to throw up - right on top of him - but a brave smile from my angel gave me the strength to hold on. Feigning interest, I learned that the fools had been stalking us since we left Riley's house; they intended to take our unconscious bodies to their boss on an island nearby, so they could "present [us] to the world."

"Well," I started, while stretching my arms, "looks like it's gonna be the other way round, mate."

As I cracked my knuckles, support squad 7 rolled up and dragged our attempted kidnappers towards their freshly formed portal.

"Come on, Janet. Why don't you break me out of here and I can introduce you to my boss, sweetheart?"

"I don't think so, "sir"."

"Why not? I thought we had something special! I thought you were better than these, reta-"

"1) I've already got the most special thing in the entire world," I smirked, while caressing Naomi's soft, warm hand.

"And 2) It's THEIR research, britz!" I proclaimed, as my black-gloved fist collided with his jaw.
