TSSTS: Prologue

Title: The Sweet Song of The Sea: Prologue

"Can I ask why ‘we’ can’t work out? Please, help me to understand because I thought things were going well.”

Sakura Momochi, sitting across from her date, wore an expression of disbelief . She had chosen the best café in the province where her date and her could have a quiet breakfast.

The café’s interior  design was warm, giving off a homey atmosphere that complimented its rustic décor. She thought  it was nice enough to set the mood later for a tussle in bed yet….

“I just don’t think our spirits connected. I need a woman that can stay home with the kids-"

“Stop!” Sakura interrupted with a raised hand.

The man sitting across from her was pretty average in looks with a much less paying job than her own yet demands so much from her.

She was indignant.

“I think you’re right. We’re clearly not matched Hisoshi and in fact," Sakura snarled and leaned forward  with narrowed eyes, making him flinch, “I think you should fully pay for this meal. Right?”

Hisoshi nervously coughed and looked away. “Y-Yeah..um…sure.”

Sakura gathered her things and stood up from her seat. She looked down at him with a cold smile and walked out of the café without look back.

She walked down the pavement and pushed her brown tresses behind her ear with a sigh. She looked up at the darkening sky.

“Can this day get any worse?” She asked softly.

*Thunder Rumbling*

‘Why did I asked?’ Sakura thought with a heavy heart.

Her shoulders slumped as the rain suddenly  poured. Yet, she didn’t move an inch to escape the cascading waters that soaked her down to her undergarments.

‘The rain…its golden?’ She questioned confusedly, wondering if she was hallucinating.

The brunette sucked in a breath, marvelling at how each drop sparkled. She looked around, hoping she wasn’t the only one seeing this and she got her answer.

The people  came out of their shelters with their phones and recorded the phenomena.

Her failed date had left her with a heavy heart but this strange occurrence  made her feel a little better about it all.

She cupped her hands together, capturing some of the golden rain in her hands to observe it closely but to her surprise the  golden water was absorbed into her skin.

The magical experience  continued on for a few more seconds before it stopped.  Sakura stood there for a few more minutes before walking away in a daze.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

‘Simply beautiful.’ She thought with a serene expression .

Eventually, like all humans, her fickle mind gradually shifts from the strange phenomena to thinking about baking some cookies and watching her favorite  TV Show .

Without paying much attention to where she was going she crashed into a hard, wet and strong body. She let out a scream as she fell backwards  but strong arms snaked around her waist and held her in a tight grip, saving her from an embarrassing  fall.

Sakura cursed as she wiped the wet strands of hair from her face and looked up at her savior.

“Sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was…” she trailed off as her eyes greedily soaked up the man in front of her. He wore a leather jacket and leather pants, paired with a ripped T-shirt with a snake printed on it.

He looked like the hidden bad boy character from one of those otome games she regularly played as a teenager. His red eyes that with one look radiated a coldness yet smothered her in a heat. His short black hair was dripping  wet and he had a face to die for. He was powerful in every sense and it overwhelmed her entirely.

Then he released her, helping her to stand properly and sent her a cold look. “That golden rain... is blessing, cherish it human.” He coldly said before walking past her without sparing a glance.

“Wait!” She quickly turned around hoping to catch his name but he was gone. “How on earth…” Sakura was in disbelief at how the man disappeared.

Shaking her head, she hailed taxi and quickly went home to her apartment to avoid anymore strange things  happening.

After entering her apartment , the brunette took a warm bath and began preparing her ingredients for baking. She turned on the news to avoid the silence of being alone.

[WORLD NEWS: BREAKING! There have been numerous reports of strange phenomena happening all over the world. Reports of golden rain here in Japan, a river was seen flowing in the sky in America, strange creatures were seen all across Europe. This is just the start of what’s happening and we're all confused.]

“Tell me about it..” Sakura replied absentmindedly, remembering the strange  man and golden rain. She grabbed the whisk and started beating the egg whites in a glass bowl.

She looked out the window and realized it was raining harder than before.

‘Was there reports for rain this heavy?’ Sakura pondered.

[WORLD NEWS: Just in, we’ve been given reports of multiple hurricane and storm sightings all over the world. The Caribbean islands have all been wiped out by a tsunami. Is this the end of the world? Just what is happening?!]

Sakura dropped the bowl and it shattered on the floor. Her parents and little brother had gone to Barbados for a vacation.

She scrambled for her phone and dialed her father’s number. “This can’t be real right? Please pick up!”

[We’re sorry but this number is unavailable.]

“FUCK!” Sakura screamed before dialing both her mother and brother’s numbers and got the same response.

Her body trembled as she moved her self to the couch and sat in front of the television. Disbelief  filled her heart and the tears wouldn’t come no matter how much it hurt.

“Mom...dad...brother …this can’t  be real…”

[WORLD NEWS: BREAKING! There has been sightings of a  gargantuan tsunami off the coast of Japan. Researchers say Its unlike anything we’ve seen and that we must look for-]

Sakura quickly stood up as the room turned dark. The electricity went out, leaving her in complete darkness. She could hear a low rumbling sound getting louder and louder. She could hear her own heart pounding in her chest.

Before she could even make a move a roaring sound crashed through her apartment walls and smashed her against  the far wall and pushed her outside.

Water filled her vision completely, overtaking her insides. Blood, that she was sure belonged to her circled around her body like a hazy cloud. She couldn’t breath, yet that didn’t stop her silent gasps that drew more water in.

Broken buildings, trees, cars and human bodies were all around her. The current swept her away and all the while her vision grew darker and darker.

Then she heard it.

A soft voice singing in her ear.  A smile found itself on her face as the voice soothed her and made the pain go away.

“Soon my daughter, you will awaken.”

That was the last thing she heard before everything turned dark.
