Chapter 25

"Relationships are an interesting thing, the spring up in the most interesting ways, they influence us in many different manners… So, is that why they are so important?" – a questioning philosopher

Alex had been sessile for many days now. When he first woke, he couldn't see.

'He probably took my eyes,' is what he had thought at the moment, and he had struggled I rage.

All that prompted was another injection.

The man had talked to him after that, quite a bit too. At first, Alex had kept silent, if only to spite the man that held him in captivity. This did not last long however, in his new state of sightlessness and the constant numbing drugs, only sound was his sanctuary for his sanity.

"Why did you take my eyes?" Alex asked after his captor had been mumbling something about a telomere.

"Oh, I'm sorry about that. I needed, no need, their latent ability to continue my work. Are you curious about how they work?"

"…"

"Back to the silent treatment then… Well, I doubt that'll last long."

3 days later.

Alex had been fed multiple times by his captor, he had tried to refuse to eat.

But that had prompted another injection.

Once completely numb, he had been unable to fight against the man, and he had been fed the mush.

Alex hears the man working, and decides to finally take the plunge, "… I'm curious."

Unknown to Alex, the man looks at his blind captive and grins, "Oh, you are?"

Alex nods with what little control he has over his body.

The man's grin widens, "Well, it's simple. Your eyes, due to your condition, when injected with large amounts of magic, will be able to see the force itself. I'm currently using them for my research into extending the lifespan and curing the diseases of the human condition. We will start the second phase soon, so you won't be bored for much longer."

'second phase?'

"And whad's thad," Alex's speech starting to slur because of the analgesics and exhaustion of being unable to sleep.

"Well, give it a few more days for your eyes to heal up, and you'll see!"

'If only I would…' Alex starts to think before he once again slips into unconsciousness

Alex awakes to hear the man say, "Ah, you're awake. Well, let's begin phase two then."

Then all Alex felt was pain.

"Hmmm, I wonder what went wrong… Well, let's try again."

"Ah, finally, some measure of success! How are you doing, Alex."

Alex gurgles.

"Maybe it didn't work as intended? Well, I need to check these results with a colleague, so see you soon."

*gurgle*

*drip*

'I wonder if he left a faucet running."

*drip*

'Or if there's a leak somewhere."

*drip*

*drip*

*drip*

'Well, I lasted through much worse in the loop, you could almost say I'm used to this…'

Alex tries and fails to chuckle.

*drip*

A week later, the first sound he hears other than the dripping is the door opening, and then the voice of his captor.

"Looks like the IV has been working," the man mumbles, and then says, "How are you feeling? Oh, and the test results are positive! You'll be the first human magic beast, aren't you excited! Usually, the division they exhibit is far too fast for any human to survive the research. Still, with your eyes, we were able to remedy that issue, and did it!"

'Looks like he's rambling again… I'm glad he did it.'

'…'

'What did I just think?'

'How long am I going to be trapped here?'

"Well, that really depends on you…"
