I had always known that I was different. The strength, speed, reflexes, enhanced senses, they weren't normal, I wasn't normal.
For years, I told myself that maybe it was something that everyone has and that I'm just getting it a little early, but the changes only grew, whenever I felt the sun or moon's rays touch my skin, my power grew. Hanging out with friends, my power grew. Even just being around my family, my power grew.
I didn't know what to do, new powers kept popping up left and right. From turning into a huge carnivorous animal or being able to transmute objects to being able to teleport and shift into a half shift. The changes never stopped. Would I never learn control, would I never learn the truth about myself? It haunted me, the changes, the powers that kept appearing. Until one day, I came across what seemed to clue me in on what they could be.
I had just finished my homework for my calculus class, when my friend, Natalie Carter, came into the basement, which doubled as my bedroom. It was the only place where I could go to sleep and not wake up at 5 am in the morning, because the rush of energy from the sun woke me up. My parents were off on another archaeology trip, finding more ancient relics. Natalie had been a friend since Preschool. She was a beautiful busty Latina with gorgeous green eyes, dark black that reached her waist and a smile that could light up the world. I, of course, had had a crush on her since the 4th grade but didn't want things to get weird between us, she was the only one, besides my parents who knew about my abilities.
"Hey, Jacob, did you finish the Calculus homework yet?" she asked, looking around the room, which admittedly was a pig sty, for the paper. "Well, even if you haven't you may want to put it on pause because I think I've found something that could be related to your abilities." She pulled out a book from behind her. It was old and tattered, bound by some material that I didn't recognize. I walked over to her and began to examine the book.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
I couldn't recognize it or what it was made of at all, and with two world renown archaeologists as parents that love showing their kid their accomplishments, I could truly say that this book was rare and unique. "Where did you find this, Nat? It looks ancient.", I asked curious and slightly fearful, I mean where could this have come from?
Her eyes seem to glow as she told her story, "I was walking here to make sure that you did the work, we're almost out of high school, can't start slacking now. when the book came out of nowhere and hit me in the head." I immediately began to check her head for any wounds. "I'm fine, Jacob. Stop worrying and let me finish." I stopped my actions, so that she could continue. "I opened the book and began to look through it, trying to find a name, so that I could return it and hit whoever threw it in the head, but I couldn't recognize the language. I was just going to leave it there until I recognized some of the pictures in the book. They looked like your shifts."
She opened up the book and began to show me the pictures she was talking about. The first one was a dead ringer for my wolf shift, a large wolf with deep red eyes and white fur. I looked at the words and found that It was in English. "Natalie, what do you mean that you couldn't read the book, it's in English." she looked confused at my words and took a look. "No Jake, I'm really sure that I can't read this language. Maybe it's another one of your abilities." I shrugged my shoulders, the abilities come whenever, I can't predict them. I went to the first page and saw something that seemed to be the weirdest out of the whole situation. " Nat, the first page says 'Property of Jacob Greer'. Is this a joke?" She had never played around with me like this before. She knew how serious I was about trying to find out what I am.
"What in the.... Jacob, I swear, this isn't a prank. Something's going on!", she said to me, freaked out.
I decided to take the plunge and began to read aloud the next page, "The tale of the Supernatural God ...."
