There was more, so much more, of those creatures. They had flushed me from my home. It wasn’t sudden as it sounds, but it feels as if it was.
Whence I had killed the creature I had rested, the heaviest I have in a long time. The next time I woke I had planned to hide the carcass so I could eat the meat over an extended period of time. I thought I had cleverly hidden it, the stench was masked with other items of discernible smell, it could have worked.
The downfall of this plan was a simple detail I had overlooked, and the only reason the creatures had come in the first place. I had assumed they were all simple minded beasts that wandered as they pleased. Not that, much like ants, they worked as a colony. The groups I annihilated, were probably forward groups tasked to look for food, and the ones after them were there to collect the winnings. They probably used scent trails to follow each other. I guess they noticed that their numbers were dwindling, and they sent something else. Something that could remove the threat, the threat was me, and it was just the beginning.
Before they came, I was sitting, experimenting. I wanted to know what I experienced, and how it happened? And the only logical way I could think of a way to achieve these answers was to look into myself. There I sat among the trash piles, quiet, and still. With conviction I cleared dispelled my thoughts, blanking my mind. I felt, I was in a state of tranquility. At some point I was rewarded for my perseverance.
I was able to do what I had done before, leave my body. I wanted to explore, but more than anything I wanted to escape this festering pit of hell. So I willed myself up, there was no resistance. I was free from the limits of my physical body. The world had become brighter and almost painfully so, detailed. There were buildings that towered high and complex pathways in between these buildings. At one time this place must have been great, but now it's in ruin, never to return to its former glory.
The ruined city soon becomes a backdrop, and the world expanded. Plains as far as I could see, opened before me. Above, rivaling the plains was the sky. It was as blue as I imagined. I was overwhelmed; I felt relief, but hopelessness. I honestly thought the only world I would ever know is the cesspool I call home. My concentration broke as these emotions flooded me. I found myself back in my body, and was bombarded by familiar screeches.
Now here I am, running with all that I’m worth. There is no time to observe my surroundings. Behind me are more of the creatures, as large, no, maybe larger than the one I defeated. I can only see one behind me, but I know there are others are close by. Each minute that passes the one pursuing me directly gets closer, and closer. I can feel its breath, its anticipation. There will be no escaping this.
‘I have to fight, my only option is…’
I’m unsure whether I can do it while actively running. Perhaps the trick is envisioning what I wish to see? I want its heart; I want to stop its heart. My vision flashes to a beating heart. I imagine it crushed, and in response the heart collapses in on itself.

Once again I find myself running, only one short of company. I look behind me. It was a success; the creature looks as if it dropped dead. Pride swells up from within, I feel as if I have control. Truly, I only want to celebrate. There is no time to stop. A distinct killing intent reaches me, I’m still being hunted.
Fatigue began to set in, there was no way my body will hold for much longer. The wounds on my abdomen have also reopened. It seems I’ve been deceived, and manipulated by my pursuers. They seemed stupid enough so I figured they would turn back, I was wrong. Their intent had been to tire me out then strike, and their time to strike is soon. My legs are beginning to lock, my muscles are betraying me. With a final cry of defiance I fall. I know what to do this time, so I wait for them to reveal themselves.
Two separate growls approached me from behind. They’re here. Quickly, I imagine bother their hearts in my grasp. I can see them. I want to crush them, I want to live. I try to crush them, but they remain unchanged, still beating. Again, and again I try, and each time a pain grows in my head. I’m unable to do anything. I can only close my eyes and pray my passing is quick. Though, I do not place any bets on my luck.
“Sire, we have located him,” a man, speaks to someone?
“Dispose of the pests, and extract him.”
“Yes, sire!”
A commanding screech rings out; the creatures have decided to retreat. Their retreat is in vain; something whizzes through the air, and enters flesh. I can hear bone break as one drops. The other meets the same fate. On the other hand, the pain in my head has grown. It’s the same piercing one. I expect to lose consciousness again, but instead I’ve entered the separate perspective.
The two creatures are farther down, both dead. A man is standing before them. He’s tall, and heavily armored to where I cannot make out any detailed features. He turns to face my body, I’m lying flat on my face, and blood is slowly pooling under me. The man walks to my body with ease and picks me up like I weigh nothing. Then just walks on, opposite of where I came from.
I follow him, there’s nothing else I can do. He’s in control of my body and if I were to kill him my body would be left for any that desires a meal. The only option is to see how this unfolds, and perhaps investigate how to use my abilities.
